Mark Oliver Everett is a goddamn genius. I feel so terribly bad for him; his father was a genius and came up with the theory that whenever any variation is made to anything, an alternate reality is created. He rarely spoke with his family and died of a heart attack at age 51. Mark Oliver Everett, E, the leader of Eels, was the first to find him when he was 19. As quoted, "It was fucking weird, that was the first time I can remember touching him. He was just dead, and I moved him."

A year or so before this album was written, E's sister Elizabeth commit suicide. The first song on the album, "Elizabeth on the Bathroom Floor" is written regarding this.

Shortly after Elizabeth took her own life, Mark's (E's) mother wound up with cancer and died after a short while.

Electro-shock Blues is Mark's way of dealing with his fucked up family history, imo. I can't give specific songs to listen to, the whole album is a depressing emotional experience that is brilliant.

You're talking about last.fm. That's like asking /mu/ if they've heard of The Protomen (everyone will say yes) and then determining they're popular. Those are places specifically music, ask anyone on the street or anyone you know 80% they'll say they've never heard of GYBE

If a band is on a indie label, they're indie. You're confusing folk and low-fi shit with a label affiliation.
