I have to admit the truth, I adore the music.. this album is a version of Blood On The Tracks that was not meant to be heard by the public. He redid most of the songs like a few weeks before release. To put it blunt, these are lackluster and uninspired cuts of potentially brilliant songs.. thank goodness they did end up to be what was officially released. It's horrid to say they were bland, but I just think he had an album here with no oomph. Seriously, by all means enjoy this version... it's there to be enjoyed. But this is a version that I won't listen to again, I was actually moved by Blood on the Tracks as an album. This cut had next to no affect on me. Interesting bootleg, it's probably the best quality bootleg there is. I love outtakes, his official bootleg albums are truly inspired. It feels as though you experience his inspiration when you go through that series, it's amazing. Get those albums, this is pretty much a whole new version of a masterpiece that shouldn't have been.
[img_thumb]http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/lcd-soundsystem-this-is-happening.jpg[/img_thumb] This is Happening - LCD Soundsystem 8/10 ''This is Happening'' is the last album from LCD Soundsystem, the album sends them out with a bang straight from ''Dance Yrself Clean'' to ''Home''. The listener is reminded about what LCD Soundsystem are about, energetic dance music in the song ''Drunk Girls'' while ''Pow Pow'' is reminscent of ''Losing My Edge'' from LCD's debut album. The album would've recieved a higher rating from me if it wasn't for ''Somebody's Calling Me'' a song that doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the album.
What did you think about Sound of Silver?
The Flashbulb - Love as A Dark Hallway Rating: A A great follow up to Arboreal. Taking a less experimental approach, but far from awesome. The album starts out with some crazy cool drum & bass inspired, almost Ronald Jenkees sounding synth lead with Flashbulb's own twists, songs. The album has a lot of really amazing sounding piano/synths going on (kind of like Ronald Jenkees generally does). The album also has a lot of post rock influence, and the last song (my favorite) is pretty much completely post rock. The album brings some fresh air to dying or non evolving genres, and does a damn good job of it.
What did you think about Sound of Silver?
Sound of Silver was a brilliant mix of energetic electro and sombre songs. The majority of the album is composed of said electro while ''Someone Great'', ''All My Friends'' and ''New York I Love You...'' bring out Murphy's emotional side. For me, Sound of Silver was some of LCD's best work. 10/10

To be fair, this is as good as anything he did in his early days, a bit hasty to say if it's better than his self-titled... but damn this is good. A very strong album for this year, I'm thinking a few album of the year nominations already :3: Now it's not groundbreaking or anything, it doesn't really introduce many new styles of rock. It does go beyond the rock what you normally hear in the charts today. Unique production styles and delving into world music to incorporate his distinct style. He proclaimed that it was his best work; and I was a bit hazy at first due to him saying that... most artists think they release an album that is better than anything they did before. This is something of a comeback and worth your attention. His self-titled is probably more important for his career though.
[img_thumb]http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/4779/covervce.jpg[/img_thumb] Fang Island Fang Island 5 Multi-cultural Ducks/5 [img_thumb]http://www.wrapables.com/images/product/C54292.jpg[/img_thumb] Math Rock elements mixed with Post Rock, my two favorite genres mixed in to one magnificent blend. With the wacky time signatures and note blends of Math, and with some minor drawn out progressions, it sounds magnificent. I listened to the entire thing, pumped, ready. Probably the best I have heard in a while, though I have yet to listen to the new Decemberists album, and I love me some Decemberists. That will be my next review, but good god, this album is marvelous. Listen to it. Please. [editline]11th April 2011[/editline] Sample:
I ve wanted to listen to Fang Island for quite some time but I keep bloody forgetting.

Roger Waters - The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking - 1984 A- Being a hardcore Floyd fan, this was difficult to pass up. I'm getting through each individual solo album by the band and there are some truly great works there. The tracklist is laid out as a timeline, and actually works in realtime if you have the vinyl version (requiring the flip to add to the reality of it). I would say it kind of avoided the natural 80s style that I would have expected. Very intriguing use of production techniques too, I believe it's a "holophonically" recorded album. Which basically means the stereo is utilized throughout and makes it a more immersive experience. This is where the concept really hits home, it may be pretentious and self-indulgent... but that's the beauty of it.

Listened to it during the last week and it is great, arguably underrated. Songs like Steady as she Goes and Broken Boy Soldier are quite rough, but riffalicious (I like this word). Other songs like Hands and Yellow Sun bring out the talent of all the band, and work perfectly. I must have listened to Yellow Sun like 50 times the last few days heh
World's End Girlfriend - Hurtbreak Wonderland - 2007 Probably a 4/5 I can see myself liking it for a long while too. So though I only really did just discover it very recently, I think I have a good idea about how I'll rate it. At least I think I think I do. It's not really totally fantastic, I'm not captivated by it all the way through, so it's not a 5. But I really really enjoy some parts and for the most of it, it's just plain enjoyable. It's a solo project by some Japanese guy or something. It has elements of classical music, electronica and post rock. Are saxophones classical? Maybe in Japan, not sure about everywhere else. But they're in here as well. The post-rock doesn't show up as much in it though. Now for my highlights I guess? I'm no good at speaking for the music, but I can let it speak for itself. 100 Years Of Choke 10:00 onwards kind of blew my mind when I first listened to it, and then again every time I listened to it over and over for a while. It starts off with piano, then string instruments, and then goes into a Final Fantasy XIII battle-sounding thing, picking up pace leading onto saxohphones, leading onto jazzy chase scene kind of music, which gets breakcore sound thrown over it and then seemingly random sounds and screaming samples thrown all over it, before it all calms down to violins (or whatever) again. It has such great variety, it kicked ass. Dance For Borderline Miscanthus It starts off horror movieish, then gets noise thrown all over it, and then the horror movieish stuff is drowned out by some sound accompanied by drummy shit, and then it goes all glitchy, cutting off the sound and playing it at certain times to make the music instead, which is the most fun, because at the same time, it's jumping around between earphones, at different volumes. It keeps doing that more while sampling laughing, screaming and sort of chainsawish sounds. It's all crazy and I love it. And then there's a whole lotta sound before it just cuts altogether. So music for letting it speak for itself. (I was a born reviewer) (I have mad describing skills)
I still need to get the whole "On The Corner" Sessions album though, that's probably an A+
yes you do i have it it's fabulous
The Doors - Morrison Hotel - 1970 9/10 Even if there is no 8+ min track like "Riders on the Storm" or "The End" it still is a very nice album. "Roadhouse Blues" alone makes this album one of their best.
Agalloch - Marrow Of The Spirit 4.5/5 This album is pretty awesome. On this album the band blends Post-Rock, Black Metal and Doom Metal with a hints of Neofolk and Ambient. What they create with this album is both beautiful and haunting. The main reason for not getting a five is the overly long ambient part in Black Lake Nidstång. The end of that song seems a let down after the along ambient section. There are also a few minor complaints as well. But overall everything seems well placed and effective.
Band: Omnium Gatherum Album: New World Shadows Year: 2011 Genre: Melodic Death Metal Rating: 10/10 Beautiful. No further comment.
The Small Faces - Ogden's Nut Gone Flake (1968) 8/10 The A-side is excellent, with my only possible complaint being that it's a little unfocused (and even that could work in its favour). The second half is very disappointing, though: the concept is silly, the songs feel much less polished, and I have no idea why the band thought it'd be a good idea to put 30 seconds of wacky narration in front of each song
Tons of Friends - Crookers 8/10 The album, as the title suggests, features a nice mixture of artists creating a nice compilation album. Tons of Friends is really an album for the dancefloor as shown by the first track ''We Love Animals'' which starts slow but throws the listener straight into the action. The album delivers a nice amount of gritty house with good vocals. The album ends on a slightly chill ending with ''Embrace The Martian'' a song that delivers a good synth sound with Kid Cudi's delightful vocal work
Pete Townshend - Empty Glass - 1980 A- The first true solo album by Pete Townshend (you know him as the guitarist, lyricist, and occasion singer from The Who). He had previously recorded a tribute album for the Indian mystic Meher Baba in 1972, and in 1977 he collaborated with ex-Faces bassist Ronnie Lane on the album "Rough Mix." But of the many solo records Townshend has cut over the years, this one has to be the strongest and certainly the most listenable. Several songs would've worked well with The Who, namely the opening track "Rough Boys" and the title track, which was actually demoed by The Who while recording Who Are You in 1978. Musically, the album has a New Wave feel, lots of synthesizer, but not as much as you'd expect given Townshend's affinity for the device. Most of the tracks are fairly short and catchy, but a few are just too arty and hard to get into for my tastes, and are the only reason that I take any points off the score. Overall it's probably the best piece of work Townshend has composed without The Who, and stronger than several of their later releases, anyway. Definitely worth listening to if you're a Who fan, or like harder-edged New Wave music with lyrical depth.
Jesu - Jesu - 2004 A Having already been accustomed with the "Drone Doom" and Shoegaze sounds... this being a mixture of pretty much things I already like, is just a treat. So glad to have discovered them, they blend sounds so well and keep it so unique. The great thing about this album is that although it consists of long songs it never loses it's energy. It keeps me hooked on their "drone" sound while having a constant sense of creativity with their simple lyrical expression. A keeper definitely. It's not going beyond any bounderies of the genres and the styles are very similar... but this can hint at such creativity that keeps you drawn in. In parts it is actually more "modern prog" than I was anticipating, and that is a very good thing. Not much to delve further because it is only my first listen. But it is a stunning album, and for a debut this is better. [editline]13th April 2011[/editline] Devin Townsend - Terria - 2001 A- Less power than the Ocean Machine, much more smoother and less in-your-face. It's still a gripping and essential record, but I feel it is meanders on thrills and makes it more complex than it actually is. But still, this is well put together and the playing is sublime. Song-writing I can't really judge on much seeing as I haven't become fully familier with it yet, on first hand it was pretty good though. A good ride.

Clark - Body Riddle Yeah, it's a warp release... So what you get is some fine experimental techno but clark often throws just about any other music format, from folk to bells. one excellent example is ted. you won't find aphex twin's or autechre's famous minimalist song structures here. clark operates more on a sound collage level, building then destroying at every single turn. sometimes it can be a bit crazy and impossible to understand. the reason i'm giving it 4/5 is because the album just looses steam at the end. body riddle is too unfocused to be really great. bjorkometer: 4/5
