on vinyl Beautiful album. Songs like Baby Driver and Cecilia are fun as hell while songs like The Boxer and The Only Living Boy In New York are very lonely and heartbreaking. Why Don't You Write Me really sucks though so I'm gonna give this a D-
Beautiful album. D-
Fix the part of your brain that critiques music.
Why Don't You Write Me's suckiness overrides the rest of the album's greatness.
A almost 3 minute song ruins an entire album for you? The fuck? Are you the guy who said Dark Side of the Moon was awesome and then said "the studio tricks they did aren't as amazing now" and then gave it like a D?
I didn't give it a D. I think I used a number rating. [editline]23rd July 2011[/editline] 9.4/10 Some of the vocal effects and synth sounds sounds kinda outdated but overall this is a great double album with plenty of atmosphere and cool prog riffs. Almost bought this on vinyl but listening to it I can't help but feel it was made for CD. [editline]23rd July 2011[/editline]
Fix the part of your brain that critiques music.
Oh yeah I did that and now I'm less nitpicky about music. Thank you. [editline]23rd July 2011[/editline] these liner notes make absolutely no sense.

Join Us by They Might Be Giants 9.5/10 This definitely ranks up with some of their greater albums like Flood, and it seems like a bit more of the style they used back then too.

Very much in the same vein as Pianos Become the Teeth and Moving Mountains but with some notable differences. I enjoyed this album a lot on my first listen, but it didn't hit me as hard as I hoped and expected it to. I can definitely see the potential for this to grow on me more though. Its an extremely solid first LP for a new band, it just wasn't what I hoped it would be... Yet. Still crossing my fingers that it will grow on me.
A/A+ The vinyl I have of this is missing the first record but it was only a buck so meh. Have it on CD anyways. Anyway this is a really good record and anyone with glam and classic rock within a mile of their musical interests should get this. Elton John is a terrific singer and he adds a lot of energy into these songs. Play it in a bathroom while cooking an omelet! Throw it at people! but only in a welcoming way.

[editline]24th July 2011[/editline]
Have it on CD anyways.
Oh nevermind. :v: I prefer his Captain Fantastic record, if you find that on LP you will win... trust me.

Sounds like a nice return to form for TMBG.
Sex for the ears. Dream theater is one of the greatest bands I've ever listened to. It is a beautiful concept album revolving around sanity. I especially like the 2nd CD. which consists of a single 42 minute song, "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence", split into 8 parts. The lyrical content of this song talk about 6 different mental conditions. "overture" is the Orchestral intro to the song. It's pretty moving and great to listen to. "about to crash" sees the actual band playing. with some great guitar work by John Petrucci and drumming by Mike Portnoy, James LaBrie does some very good vocal work on this song as well. This song is about a teenage girl suffering from a bi-polar disorder. "War Inside my Head" is a short 2-minute song about a Vietnam vet with PTSD. yet again Petrucci and Portnoy are great. but the vocals are somewhat lacking, and there isn't much keyboard in this song. "The Test That Stumped Them All" starts of with some crazy guitar, drumming, and some intense keyboard work coming from Jordan Rudess. This song has a very fast beat and has 2 great moments of vocals when LaBrie puts on a British accent and sings from the doctor's point of view, this song being about someone suffering from Schizophrenia. "Goodnight Kiss" is a IMO a fairly mediocre song with some good piano work from Rudess. There isn't much to say about this song. Except for it's about a women who suffers nightmares about 2 miscarriages she has had. Although it does lead into my favorite song on this album. "Solitary Shell" is a joyful song with some simple acoustic work from John Petrucci, Brilliant Keyboard work from Rudess, and poetic vocals from LaBrie. The song is about a boy with Autism, but the cheery guitar, keyboard and singing cushions what could be a depressing song. although I think that they could've worked on the ending a bit more, as it doesn't sync with the next song like every other song on the album. "About to Crash (Reprise)" is about the same girl from "about to crash", except for it's from her point of view. everything I said about "About to Crash" is pretty much my reaction to this song as well. "Losing Time (Grand Finale)" starts of the same way "Overture" ended, and pretty much is Overture but with lyrics and some differences in the song. It is about a girl with MPD. Overall I rate it 9/10. I recommend this album to everyone who likes prog metal, and people that just listen to the metal genre as a whole.
I just can't listen to DT, just something about them that makes me go nope when I hear most of their stuff. It's like lyrically every song is trying too hard
I can't get into them either. I've tried quite a few times.
you tried their concept albums or their regular albums? I swear listening to Metropolis Pt. 2 was like a gateway to a new world of music. [editline]24th July 2011[/editline] if you haven't yet, listen to "home", it's 12-mins long, but it's worth it. or listen to "pull me under" [editline]24th July 2011[/editline]
RYM don't let you tag images.
in process of fixing

Except for that one song.
when LaBrie puts on a British accent and sings from the doctor's point of view, this song being about someone suffering from Schizophrenia.
that sounds hilarious

When Will You Die and Can't Keep Johnny Down are my personal favorites. 9/10.
that sounds hilarious
it is, did I mention that in the same segment the pro-body builder lead guitarist of the band put's on a woman's voice and sings from the nurse's point of view?
