creep is such a deep song, it makes me want to contemplate the complex lyrical themes and structure

The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me - Brand New
This is quite a solid alt rock album with some pretty clear post-hardcore and emo influence. Undisputably Brand New's best album to date. Great combination of calm almost-post-rock introductions on some tracks combined with a heavier more post-hardcore/emo alt rock sound that defines the album. A good description of the sound would be taking American Football, La Dispute, and Sunny Day Real Estate then blending them together.
4/5

Oh, and the track "Jesus" sounds incredibly similar to Modest Mouse stuff.

I give 55:12 by Gregor Samsa a C+
I was told it was a good post rock album, and indeed it was, just a bit run of the mill. Liked it, might give it another listen. The woman doing the vocal parts had a nice calm voice
Dummy by Portishead also gets a C+ for me, but in reality in a B+ or higher album.
It was pretty chilled out and relaxed but I expected something more, was okay.
Just listened to this

This gets an 8/10 from me, or a B+
Really nice, calming melodies with nice smooth drums and chill bass. Vocals fitted perfectly
Would listen to again, which is a nice change from all the other albums I've been listening to and not really dug.
[editline]27th July 2011[/editline]
album cover is ugly as hell though

Open Your Eyes by Yes

Quite a big departure from Yes' established sound (as well as the Keys to Ascension albums) but still enjoyable.

what dyou think of Magnification Cork?
what dyou think of Magnification Cork?
Only heard it once, a long time ago. Though it's coming up after this album finishes so I'll report back.
it's a good album imo enjoy. oh I remember you're on your Yes marathon... do the live ones too

Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet
A+
Just amazing. Anesthetize is easily the best song PT has made in my opinion, and every track on the album holds up in quality, though I think My Ashes and Sentimental are the weaker tracks. It's got a great sense of coherence, but each track is very distinct, and this album showcases Steve at his lyrical best.
Sentimental is one of my favourite PT songs :v:

Some of these songs sound like Bruce Springsteen with strings. Anyway a fine album from Arcade Fire but compared to their debut it's not nearly as grand or epic and some of the songs tend to blend together. Especially the ones in the middle. The closest the band gets to the grandness of Funeral, which is why I love that album, is probably No Cars Go. But even then it doesn't feel like the band is putting all their oomph into it. I guess they were too tired from the previous album. Still on it's own merits it's a fine album with great atmosphere (it was recorded in a church!) and some nice moody lyrics. yuoah!

How can you pick out so many flaws and still rate it 10/10 :psyduck:

Well I compare albums with other albums by the same artist. If Funeral gets a 15/10 then Neon Bible gets a 10/10.
You are the most backwards critic I've ever seen.

I stopped listening to this album when the singer said a certain four-letter word. We don't need this kind of degradation in music today.

Damn this rocks. Kinda samey sounding but it's short (less than half hour long) so it doesn't get tedious. Plus all the riffs and stuff are great. If you have metal within a mile of your taste you've probably listened to this already but if you don't you're probably lying or you have no testicles.
That or Blackwater Park.
I went with Still Life, feel like saving Blackwater Park for later. Really enjoyed Still Life and Ghost Reveries so far though.

Great new album. Some great techno influences and new ideas introduced while keeping the same feel the band has become known for.

That's very nice but that's got fuck all to do with the quality of the music.
wait was that four letter word comment serious or joking?
I think it was serious.

Milton Nascimento & Lo Borges - Clube da Esquina
lovely brazilian pop, with great lush arrangments and smooth singing. wish I understood the lyrics to get the full effect, but the songs sound great as they are. Good introduction to MPB.

D'Angelo - Voodoo
holy shit, this is great. not what you'd expect from the cover (or from the very sexualised video, which he hated), but this this is beautiful soul music. The arrangements are fantastic with lots of subtle touches that you rarely hear from pop music, and his falsetto voice is amazing. sort of reminds me of albums like Astral Weeks or Tim Buckley's Happy Sad for the great blend of wonderful soulful singing and beautiful backing music.
