[img]http://www.beefheart.com/datharp/albums/official/pics/clearspotcover.gif[/img] 9/10 - Captain Beefheart - Clear Spot Well there's quite a lot to say about the Captain. He was Frank Zappas Idol which certainly tells us one thing or another. His mix of spoken word, free form jazz, funk and soul, and straight up blues makes this album a melting pot of genres featuring catchy blues tracks like "The Low Yo Yo Yo." Yet for every blues track there is a funky vibe beneath it. It's actually quite nice it changes the pace from each song to the next. It's a very nice album to pop in the car during a long ride home but also just as good to listen to at home through a stereo. If you like blues, soul, jazz, and a tiny droplet of funk this is your album.
yeah I need more Captain Beefheart albums for sure.
[release] The Orb & David Gilmour Metallic Spheres 2009 This is really awesome. What is it? Ambient techno with David Gilmour's guitar solos. It only consists of 2 songs, Metallic Side and Spheres Side, both being over 20 minutes long. This is a very relaxing album and its great background music while you do something else. I recommend this to Gilmour fans and ambient fans.[/release]
I do enjoy that album Hakita, but the facts are that the band took solos from a session that were meant to be for a single and stretched them out for an album. That's a dry way to steal Gilmour guitar recordings for an album.
I give that album a 10/10 just for Elizabeth Fraser's performance on Teardrop. heaven.
Excuse me did you just highlight Meddle? :frog:
i dunno i think it's really boring
i dunno i think it's really boring
Fair enough. It's probably not all that when you think about the music, but I got goosebumps so I'm psychedelically biased. :)
Amia Venera Landscape - The Long Procession This album combines Botch-esque metalcore and mathcore with post-metal and post-rock. I had heard this album multiple times before, but it didn't really click for me until just now. Awesome album if you like any of the genres listed but it takes a while to fully appreciate. Only complaint is that some of the ambient sections seem a bit unnecessary and often drag on a bit too long. (9/10)

The vinyl version was a lot better, because it had great atmosphere and it wasn't too long that it got boring. The expanded version however, extended it too much. It still had good atmosphere, but it got REALLY boring after the second part. Its a good album overall, but if you want to get it, get the original version instead of the expanded one.[/release]

I'm gonna steal your formatting, Hakita because it looks nice. [release] Beastie Boys THEHOTSAUCECOMMITTEPARTTWO 2011 10/10 I bought this on a whim while I was passing through Nordstrom's and saw it on a rack and thought 'I haven't heard Beastie Boys in a decade!". I was prepared for all the ill communique and raps I could ever handle but I got something completely different. What I heard was a crazy mix of normal Beastie Boys 90's hip-hop with some crazy border-line glitch beats and sampling. It's as humorous as all the other Beastie Boys albums except this one feels different than the others, I think it feels more produced and tighter which works really well for this album. It may be the shock or it may really be that I find this album as good as I do - but it's by far my favorite Beastie Boys album and so far one of my favorites for 2011 [/release] Damn. son. How you make it so fine?
not masterpiece imo but I love that album. so many different banging sounds it's unbelievable.
not masterpiece imo but I love that album. so many different banging sounds it's unbelievable.
Yeah, definitely far from a masterpiece; Still a rad album. [editline]3rd August 2011[/editline] Too Many Rappers is when I realized how different this album was.
Beastie Boys are like a musical paradox. They're old white guys and one of them used to be Jewish yet they still make great hip-hop albums
Beastie Boys are like a musical paradox. They're old white guys and one of them used to be Jewish yet they still make great hip-hop albums
they're all jewish and you can't stop being jewish either jews are great at hip-hop see TH89
I'm done being Latvian... fuck this shit.
If you don't like the length why are you listening to Godspeed in the first place?
Because I wanted to find new music. [editline]3rd August 2011[/editline]
Damn. son. How you make it so fine?
With lots of love.
owns 8.5/10 for bad sound quality on some tracks
9.5/10 Was almost perfect, one track had grainy sounds going on, but if it was just my record player then I'd give this album 10/10. One love
9/10 I've only recently discovered him and he's already become one of my personal guitar heroes, along with Nick Drake and Bert Jansch. His playing is impressive but also somehow very natural and alive. great progressions and wonderful everything. some tracks are also very atmospheric which adds another dimension to this great album.
4/5 love the guitar sound here. reminds me of my bloody valentine.
Because I wanted to find new music.
If you want new music, listen to Slow Riot by GY!BE, its all the greatness of Godspeed without the barrier of their sometimes unbearable length.
The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs Yeah I listened to all 69 songs. It sounds tedious at first; 69 songs all on the topic of love, but there's so many different styles and emotions that spring from this that it's impossible for me not to be bored.
Dark Side of the Moon Animals Meddle Atom Heart Mother The Division Bell ... Sorry, no room
NOT a fan of The Division Bell. DSOTM, WYWH, Animals, Meddle, Ummagumma (live), they alll left you feeling like you've experienced something. You're a new man! Division Bell was just fade-in fade-out New Age stuff.
Black Kronstadt - Crimes Of Capital, Crimes Of The State (1994) Canada Hardcore/Crust 7.5/10 Overly some basic old school styled Hardcore and Crust. The first 3 songs are not as good as the last 3 but they are still good. This band is highly influential in creating Blackened Crust near the end. As well as being are highly related to other BC Crust bands Iskra and Leper (they play Ska/Grind as well). Personally I think this release is best as being just plain old Hardcore/Crust then any Blackened Crust or anything related from the region.
