Only real flaw is that some songs feel cut short, and in general the whole album could've been a lot longer (even though its just an EP). Like this better than their full length. Anyone who likes Defeater, Touche Amore, Modern Life is War, or La Dispute should definitely check this out. More Than Life - Love Let Me Go (8/10) A natural progression from their EP, some of their best songs on this, also a few filler tracks. Didn't hit me as hard as the EP, but still extremely impressive, shows that MTL has some consistency.

[editline]17th August 2011[/editline] [release] The Mars Volta Amputechture I understand that The Mars Volta really wanted to break away from albums with overarching stories but I don't think this is the way to do it. Amputechture is scattered, disorganized, mostly unimpressive and doesn't hit the highs that TMV has been known for before and after this album. Frances The Mute had plenty of segments that abruptly change into another and on Frances the Mute it is exciting and impactful when on Amputechture it just makes the songs lack flow and unnecessarily long. The album has some really good songs on it, but as an album they do not work or at least not together on this album. Day of the Baphomets I find to be the high point of this record, the part where the congas kick in and on is awesome. I would certainly not recommend this as your first TMV album, and even if it is your last it'll probably the hardest of their albums to get into. It's not bad, but it's pretty weak. [/release]
[release]Magical Mystery Tour by The Beatles Rating: 4.5/10 At this point, you're probably saying, "Okay... This guy's a fucking asshole." I can only just give you my word and say I'm not and hope that my rating after reading this review will make a lot more sense. I dove into this comp album thinking, "Wow! Some of the best music is just about to unravel and travel into my ears." I was disappointed to say the least. Most of the album came out as "flat" sounding. The vocals on this album (especially John Lennon) come off as a mere effect then actual vocals. The easy accessibility and easy listening factor credits it's high sales and reception. There is a downside to all of that, most of these tracks get very boring and dull, FAST. That doesn't mean it's somewhat fun to listen to... for a while. Magical Mystery Tour: The first minute of this song is maybe one of the best parts of this album. The first minute is great, after that it starts to calm down. Yes Paul, we heard you say "magical mystery tour" already. The trumpet fits quite nicely in this song and so is the other instruments on this track, but the vocals are less than mediocre. 3/5 Fool On the Hill : Probably my least favorite track on this album. Like MMT it is accompanied by mediocre vocals. Not much going on in this track except for the piano, flute, and vocals. It is very boring. 1.5/5 Blue Jay Way: At this point of the album I wondered if they were going to do something else besides a mediocre folk song. I was wrong, the vocals are somewhat of more of an ambient effect for all the other instruments. The vocals sound very nasally and the best analogy I can give is if someone was strangling a nerd while he was yawning. If only this song was instrumental. 2/5 The rest of the tracks pretty much sound the same poppy folk, nasally/just bad in general vocals, somewhat of decent instrument playing, and an overall unatmospheric feel. I cannot see where this album almost always gets a very highly positive reception from reviewers. [/release]
Personally I like Blue jay way a lot, and fool on the hill is decent, but I didn't really think Magical Mystery tour (the song) was any good. [editline]17th August 2011[/editline]
it was this album btw Merriweather Post Pavilion So mesmerizing...
I enjoyed this album, mainly for the vocal harmonies. in the flowers is probably the best track on the album in terms of production, the rest was decent though in my opinion.
Bat Outta Hell: Meatloaf. 10/10

can't remember if this has been done already but fuck it 4.5/5 I've liked Sparklehorse and Dangermouse for a long while, so when I heard about this combo, I thought it was too good to be true. Luckily it wasn't, and I pretty much loved every second of it. it has a haunting quality, which is aided by both the tragic suicide of Mark Linkous, and the album's various guest appearances, the most notable of which being David Lynch, with his 'visual narrative' photobook that was delivered with certain copies. The whole album carries this eeriness like a badge, going from chilled out tracks like 'Revenge', to tracks like 'Dark night of the soul' which has a sort of twisted 'Rain dogs' feel to it. My personal favourite track is 'Angel's Harp' featuring Black Francis, though 'Pain', with Iggy pop providing vocals, is another noteworthy track.

If you can get past that, The song are all pretty varied and interesting. The music and samples are actually really good and always add to the song. The production is fine. And its pretty funny occasionally I would recommend anyone get it just to be informed enough about the group to form an opinion.
SILVERSUN PICKUPS ARE GAY!!!!!
Rated tool because it suits you.
After an elongated period of not listening to it due to thrashing in (no pun intended) and getting bored of it after 100 odd plays within the span of a week or two, I thought I'd finally give it another spin It's a lot easier to avoid being biased towards it seeing as it's been a long time and my mind is nearly refreshed by it. Battery - Starts of the album with a nice passage of nylon guitars before blasting into a harmony riff with this thick, rich mid-whoring guitar sound the album possesses. The song develops as a normal metal song would, intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, etc etc. The album is very anthemic in terms of metal, it's something every metal fan can memorize after the first listen, with a hard hitting chorus, a prelude lead part, then the solo. The solowork on this album imo is my favourite from Kirk's - his guitar tone is perfect, and he has a really nice balance of the wah in this. He certainly knows when and how to use it and it isn't abused to sugarcoat his solos. After listening to this song, it's hard to put the album down from now. It's immensely convincing. Master of Puppets - Probably my least favourite track on the album due to abuse it gets from me and some people at my school thinking they can actually play it, it is superb as well as Battery. Hetfield's rhythm playing is perfect the whole recording, downpicking the main riff without even a hint of weakness at any point. There's also some sort of dual chorus thing going on, theres kinda like a post chorus chorus. Hard to explain. Then the main riff returns, etc etc blah blah. Then the clean part. One of the most memorable melodic passages of Metallica, and metal as a whole, the harmony solo over it, and Kirk's emotional solo. Brilliant. The thumping guitars and drums bring a nice return to the heavy side of it, and holy shit another solo by Kirk - this time a really precise, fast paced shredding one which stil shows signs of feeling. The song comes to a book end close by repeating the verse and chorus again. A brilliant song yes, but not my favourite. Kind of overrated imo. The Thing That Should Not Be - Not necessarily a thrash song but it is certainly very very heavy. The entire song flows well. I'm a big fan of the solo which is really complimented by the heavy pounding riff, and the outro is FUCKING BADASS. Not much more to say Welcome Home (Sanitarium) - The traditional 4th track ballad. The clean passage is subliminally improved by a really hard to notice piano playing the low E at the start. Kirk kicks in over the riff, yet again playing a flawless, emotional solo. James shows his true vocal potential here, not having to be aggressive, but having an overall great clean natural voice. Reminds you of why people say the mighty Het is one of the greatest metal vocalists of all time. The real gem of the song is the transition of the chorus to the faster, anger driven part of the song. Throughout the song you can really hear Lars's drumming has increased to almost perfection. Even though he may have never been hailed as the greatest drummer ever, he's like a metal version of Nick Mason. He plays enough for what the band requires, but the most important thing is the emotion carried through the drums. The thumping drum sound really helps the songs work well, and gives it a really intense human like quality while being precise sensitivity wise Disposable Heroes - My favourite song on the album. Hetfield's precise rhythm comes in to play like a machine, all guitar tracks are perfect with each other, and the bass puts the icing on top of the guitar tone cake. The track like most others has a change of key in the middle, and unexceptionally it's fucking awesome. Kirk's solo here has to be one of my favourites he's ever done, and the background rhythm guitars that go in and out of each other and return work well together without making it sound like its dragging on. Great song. Leper Messiah - like TTTSNB, it's not a true thrash song, more on the heavy side, but still wicked. The typical key change is an exception though as it is a very fast passage with another solo. Great stuff. Orion - Probably my least favourite of the 80's instrumentals for the same reason as the title track of the album, it was my favourite at one point. This song is what Cliff Burton is all about. The intro is carried by more great Lars feel drumming like I was talking about, and progresses really well with many changes throughout the song. Then there is a nice interlude, yet instead of being backed by clean guitars, there is a nice soothing bass feel which offers a deeper sound for the rich harmonies to shine out more. The bass solo is astounding (noobs often mistake it for being a real guitar, lol) then a return to the distorted guitar brings out the solo, then the return to the riff, then a fade out. Damage, Inc. - Really reminds me of Battery, so the album kind of has a book end closing. Not really, but whatever. Anyways, it's anthemic, fucking fast, and the entirety greets you to aggressive thrashiness that you'd expect from the most hailed thrash album of all time. So after giving the album another fair chance, I conclude that it isn't overrated, and it is superior. Maybe not over ride the lightning, but heck it's an amazing effort and Metallica have every right to be praised for it.
I respect metallica but I hate their music [editline]19th August 2011[/editline] especially hetfield's voice, jesus

Sleep - Dopesmoker A A recently found favourite of mine, and I'm not usually a big doom fan. I didn't like the vocals much at first, but they suit the music very well, and they grew on me as a result. It's got a great slow, relaxed vibe which let's the 63 minute title track work with that huge length much better than I expected, and the addition of the faster and heavy Sonic Titan on the end of the album brings it a great close. Sleep - Sleep's Holy Mountain A- Much heavier and faster than Dopesmoker, more like Kyuss than Electric Wizard. It's great too, but lacks the atmosphere that drew me to Dopesmoker.
