Deep Purple- Machine Head
4/5 All the songs are great, except for "Maybe I'm a Leo", Richard Blackmore's solo in "Highway star" is fucking epic but simple. A great all-round Rock album.
What.
Maybe I'm a Leo is groovy as fuck

I only found 2 or 3 of the tracks appealing with "I, the Swan" being the best one.
I read that their debut is much better so I'll give that a go

I don't really have much to say about this one that can't be learned by listening to the album itself. It's a great collection of songs by the woman who is, in my opinion, one of the best vocalists in the world. She manages to put wonderful amounts of emotion into her songs without making them too painful to listen to.

Ahh yes, Focus. The insane and fun dutch progressive rock band with yodeling and other hilarious forms of vocals.
This album, however is almost completely instrumental with there only being around 2 minutes of actual vocals. Maybe that is why I like this album so much.
The instrumentation is amazing, as expected. The riffs are insane and very enjoyable in every possible way.
The album is entertaining from beginning to end, with almost every song being at least as good as the last one.
Highlights of the album are Harem Scarem, La Cathedrale de Strasbourg and Birth/Early Birth.

Justice - Cross
5/10
Initially very pacey and upbeat it reaches its point of generic grinding electro which occasionally is interrupted by a song with lyrics. Unfortunately this reaches its lowest ebb at Tthhee Ppaarrttyy which is accompanied with the ''lazy'' singing of Uffie (certainly an off day for her) which only serves to bring down the song's quality. The album as a whole is very generic and predictable by the end.

I'd heard of TDCC before but I hadn't paid them much attention until I saw the live at Oxegen 2011, they were one of the best acts there.
This album is incredible, I can't resist singing along and it gives me serious urge to dance.
It's upbeat and fun, the song's are great and the balance of the instruments is bang-on.
You should definitely give Two Door Cinema Club a look, this their only album - Tourist History

I tried them, I really did, but I just couldn't finish the album. Maybe I'll give them another try but there was just something about them that didn't hit right with me. Got lots of friends who love them, so it's definitely a fault with me. Seen them live though, great fun. Great upbeat festival band.

Their up tempo and fun feel is the main reason I love them, their songs are catchy too in my opinion.

Les Discrets - Septembre Et Ses Dernières Pensées (8.5/10)
Amazing shoegaze/post-metal album. It took a few listens for me to be able to differentiate the songs (titles in French, singing also in French, I think its all French, don't hate me if I'm wrong) but once I gave everything a good listen I loved it. With this album they manage to create an amazing atmosphere as well as some beautiful music spanning multiple genres of post-rock. My only issue is the vocals, they are nice for a while but they just get so annoying after long periods of listening, but they are sparse as is so this is hardly a major issue. Still recommend this to anyone who likes post-rock, post-metal, or shoegaze.

Alice Cooper: Welcome 2 My Nightmare, 2011
7.5/10
Has some great tracks, but it doesn't live up to the Welcome to My Nightmare standard. Also, having Ke$ha as a guest artist does not help. The range of the songs is interesting, with a few songs being heavily orchestrated while others try to go back to the sound of Alice's first albums. Then, of course, there's the crazy stuff, namely "Disco Bloodbath Boogie Fever" ..
If I didn't have such high expectations of it, I probably would have bumped its rating up. As a sequel to a timeless classic, it's not the best. As an album of its own merit, it's pretty good.

Psychedelic Floyd with Syd Barrett from Floyd's early days.
Its a pretty decent album and enjoyable from beginning to end, even though I don't really like the ambient-ish middle points.
I guess thats what Psychedelic Rock is, and if so, its not a genre for me.
The album has a few really memorable melodies and riffs, such as Lucifer Sam and Interstellar Overdrive.
Highlights are the before mentioned Interstellar Overdrive and Lucifer Sam as well as Astronomy Domine.

Slightly better than Piper, but still not to my tastes.
The Album starts with the amazing song 'Let There Be More Light', which is a great album starter.
This is the last album with Syd.
In my opinion all the songs on the album are either good or bad with no middle ground.
This album's highlights are Let There Be More Light, Remember A Day and Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun.

This album can only be described in one word.
"Meh?"
Like Saucerful, the album has its ups and downs, with sadly more downs this time around.
There are a few REALLY good songs, such as the ones that are different from what they usually do, like The Nile Song.
Highlights this time are The Nile Song, Green Is The Colour & A Spanish Piece.

Ordinarily I'm the last person to listen to Kanye West, but I had a strange compulsion to see what the hype about this album was.
And it's actually pretty fucking excellent. While I previously resented the pompous glorification of unintelligence that is Runaway, in the context of the album its droning piano serves as a confrontingly contrasting intermission, and it works wonders. Lost in the World is amazing. The whole thing is, really. The only part that brought it down for me was the awkward spoken interlude at the end of Blame Game, I don't really get it and it seemed like a blast of immaturity among what was otherwise surprisingly sophisticated.
9.3/10 from me. This is Happening is still the best of 2010, for me at least.

Like the above poster said, I too would have never been caught listening to Kanye West. This was mostly due to his egotistical and gradoise attitude (Particularly when he (hilariously) humiliated Taylor Swift-to-be-forgotten) -I thought this would be mirrored in his music. Despite this, I felt an almost irresistable pull to his music (thanks to the constant recommendations of FP'ers who claim to also be impressed with this album). So I finally got it and I thought it was personally fantastic, mainly because I have a huge interest in sociopolitical/philosophical writings (Being a writer of this theme myself also). He speaks about life being not how we see it; the life we think we know being a proverbial blindfold to the true reality that many people (often) purposefully withdraw themselves from; Christianity is dying (Very very similar account to that held by Friedrich Nietsche [Human, All Too Human]); The 'American Dream' is dead; and much much more like this.
Very skillfully expressed opinions. Still, amongst all of these perfectly legitimate and profound lyrics we are still made aware (like a punch to the face) of his world-renowned narcissism. Is this a bad thing? No, because what would his music be without his personality? It wouldn't be his, and let's face it: If it weren't for his eccentric personality and ego, his music may not even be as recognised as it is today; his narcissism is a vehicle (whether intentional or not) to get his controversial-yet-true opinions spread throughout the world as widely as possible.
Other songs (in particular the collaborations [except for So Appauled; Kanye completely overshadows Pusha T in Runaway; Blame Game; Lost In The World]) seem to be entertaining, but with no real (or rather personally appealling) meaning -rapping with other artists more for fun; lyrical exercises. However, the aforementioned exceptions to the unattractive collaborations are absolutely sublime.
Instrumentals are brilliant throughout.
Definitely a 9.5/10. I don't like four of the tracks but the rest of them completely make up for this.

I guess I'll be the only one who thinks Late Registration is his best work.

"Wildlife" by La Dispute (2011)
9/10
Came out only 5 or 6 days ago, first time listening to it just now.
It's post-hardcore reminiscent of bands like Rites of Spring and Fugazi and stuff I guess (well not really but it sure as hell isn't scene kid genericore)
Fucking unbelievable. Some of the most powerful music I've ever listened to in my entire life.
Each song tells a different story, and tells them absolutely fantastically. They're more like a narration of the characters' lives rather than a song, which really puts you in the shoes of the characters.

This is probably my favourite track, it's incredibly powerful and just hits you so hard. The lyrics are beautifully crafted and have a fantastic flow, and the vocals could not be more fitting or sincere.
