7/10, country music. It's recorded live, sort of. I enjoy listening to it in the background.

Last time i was here was over two years ago or so. I intended to make an account temporarily because i think i was promoting a gmod server or something but i ended up becoming active for a few months or so hence i can't remember username.
I don't really mind starting again though.

well it's william basinski, doing tape loop drones like he always does and it's completely beautiful and I didn't know drone could be moving in such a way as this. so if you have an interest in drone/ambient => listen to it
Nothing like a bit of soothing afternoon drone.
it's more than soothing it's beautiful ;___;

*Shels - Plains of the Purple Buffalo
Genre/Description: Post-Rock with singing at times, native American imagery, small points
with sludge,
Plains of the Purple Buffalo is one of the most exciting and innovative Post-Rock albums I've
heard lately. The songs on the album aren't your normal "Tame build, tame build, tame build,
EXPLODE" for Post-Rock. The "build" for most of these songs is just as exciting and interesting
as the crescendos you'd find on other post-rock albums, and the climaxes to these builds are
epic
and booming.
Personally, I think this is the best example of Third-Wave Post-Rock (too much hyphening) and
I mean that by that it takes what was good about a band like Godspeed with it's beautiful interludes
and incredible adrenalin pumping endings and the evolution of keeping the listener's interest up
until the ending that bands like Mogwai have succeeded and bands like EITS have failed at.
The album is a whopping 78 minutes and there are very few times on it that are not a pleasure to
listen to. The song Wake is a little boring, and the lyrics on Conqueror in the beginning throw me off a bit
with "Salty tear water touches my skin...".
If you have the patience and interest, go right now and listen to this. It's an amazing album full of
adventure and emotion and a clear contender for album of the year.

The Galilean Satellites
Genre: Post metal with a massive atmospheric and static influence.
Being a 2 disc album you can technically get up to 3 hours of enjoyment from this. Each 60 minute disc can be played by itself or, as it sounds like it was intended to be, together. While the 2 solo discs are stand out musical creations on their own, they become mind blowing when played together. The polished post metal sound that they seem to have pulled off perfectly combined with the sheer amount of atmospheric and static influenced ambience creates an album so good I can rate it one of the best I've heard, and this is, in my honest opinion, their worst album, though not by much. As good wall of sound should be, there is no overriding instrument. Even the vocals are so blended in with everything makes you ignore them and think of them as just another instrument.
The production, which was done by their guitarist, sounds professional and crisp. The only drawback is the ending of Itinérant/Ross 128 sounds dragged out and put in only to lengthen the time. It does have a very nice transition in to the next song however.
Any fan of post metal needs to give these guys a listen as they capture the sound so well you'd think they were born to do it.

Rating: 10/10
One of the best albums I've ever listened to. Probably my favorite by Porcupine Tree yet, which is also coincidentally my favorite band. Transition from heavy instrumentation and dark lyrics to serene pieces is very fluid and works wonderfully.
Favorite song has to be Halo.[/release]
The thing about ratings, with repeat listens you start to grasp it more and then your threshold will decrease.
The first time you hear an album you may be blown away, but after the 5th listen it doesn't do anything for you.

I find this. Especially with PT, mostly because they were one of the first "interesting" bands I heard. I was completely obsessed when I first heard them, but after prolonged exposure I don't really think they deserve the credit they have.
However it's sometimes the exact opposite, I didn't think much of Sound Awake by Karnivool when I first heard it, now it's my favourite album.

The Black Keys - El Camino (2011)
I enjoyed this a lot. Every track is totally solid and very entertaining to listen to. Beyond that, it doesn't do a whole lot, but who's complaining because it's just great. It's not quite as inexplicably brilliant as, say, Is This It, but it's still worthwhile listening.

Rosetta's second album

Wake/Lift
Genre: Less atmosphere than the last album, but much more groovy sludge and post-rock elements.
This album builds upon the first in the groove department by a fair amount. Specifically the drumming, it complements the simplistic yet still complex riffs that their guitarist loves to write. The wall of sound evident in their debut album still persists here at less frequent intervals. Post-rock-esque (heh) sections show some of the different types of musical influences they've experimented with but you can still hear the hardcore and space rock elements that were prevalent in their debut. A standout element of the album is the tumultuous endings five of the songs have. They either start off loud or soft, but will start a build up from the middle of the song into a crescendo of noise which just makes you want to scream at planets and space with them.
An album best listened to without any stops or repeats, but one with songs that are just as beautiful on their own, Wake/Lift builds on the skilled musicianship of it's predecessor and includes a varied style of music. A must listen to if you're a fan of post-rock or metal.

Depeche Mode - Violator
Really great album. Anyone should know this album because of the songs Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence, particularly because everyone under the sun seems to have covered Enjoy the Silence at some point - For good reason, it's one of the few singles that I don't often get sick of.
I've listened to the album about 4 or 5 times since I got it 2 days ago, and I'm so into it. Depeche Mode are one of the best electronic bands around (despite the amount of shit they sometimes get). They're hard-hitting at points, softer and more maudlin at other times and have some really interesting progressions in there to keep it all interesting. The transition from Waiting For The Night to Enjoy the Silence really strikes a chord with me so I keep repeating it too, probably just because Enjoy the Silence starts so well. Policy of Truth is a really catchy song too, and there's some fucking awesome synth effects in here.
If you consider yourself a fan of electronic music you should have at least given Violator a listen, and maybe their previous album, Music for the Masses. 8/10.
