A Determinism Of Morality
Genre: Similar to Wake/Lift but less sluge, most post metal influences.
Probably my album of the year for it's beautiful melodies, drumming that sounds as if the drummer is on crack and some seriously crunchy heavy sections. I think it's their shortest album so far, however that's made up by the flow all the songs exhibit and the decidedly unique song structures on a few of the songs. Again, best listened to in it's entirety but with stand out singles.

Why you no tell nobody about this? :>
Bands like Isis and Rosetta really blur the line between Sludge Metal and Post Metal which gives a very droney, sludgy atmospheric sound. Though it's only present on Isis's earlier stuff Rosetta are really good at it.

I finally got the time to listen to this, totally worth it. Jordan Dreyer's vocals are IMO more powerful in Wildlife, but the guitar work is better in this album. I love this album, I do think that the vocals are too fast in a couple of the songs, but that is a minor thing compared to the greatness of the album. Obvious standouts are:

It sucked

I have mixed feelings about this album, and in the end, it more comes down to rating songs individually. The real gems on this album are "Get Back", "I Me Mine", "The Long and Winding Road", and the titular track, "Let It Be". A lot of what I dislike about this album stems from the fact that there's a lot of chatter on some of the tracks. Also, the song "Dig It" is clearly just filler. In the end, however, it seems that a lot of the songs are more reminiscent of their older songs as opposed to the more experimental stuff they experimented with in the later years, which I like. While not the worst Beatles album, it's definitely not the best. I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10.

Although I horrendously disagree. It's a nice review.
The thing about Let It Be that I like, is that it's a lot more of a "spur of the moment" album as compared to the preciseness of their previous albums.
Doesn't mean to say it's disjointed, but it feels a lot more like they're happy to just jam. Also the production brought it out from the "Loud and hard hitting" production that they were used to.

Morton Feldman - the Viola in My Life
super avant garde modern classical stuff. scored for viola and symphony. very abstract sounding music, no melody or anything, but very close attention paid to creating colours and texture with sound. doesn't seem to really build to any moment, it's all very ethereal. you can hear a lot of this subtle colourations in Talk Talk's music, so any fan's wanting to trace the classical side of Hollis's musical inspirations (like, me) should listen to Feldman, because as Hollis says, "Yeah, Morton Feldman is a total winner".

BadBadNotGood - BBNGSINGLE
9/10
It's actually a single, not an album, but it has a 2 tracks on it so yeah.
Rotten Decay starts off with a dark atmospheric intro which reminds me of the intros to Black Sabbath's song Black Sabbath. Later in the song it slowly builds up to even fast piano playing and eventually gives a big drop off. Real rollercoaster of a song.
Hard In Da Paint/Wow Rare starts off a bit Odd Future-esque with distorted vocals shouting slang and insults for several seconds then suddenly goes to a series of catchy beats and great piano playing. It's a lot less atmospheric and more exciting.
Great single. Would recommend trying it out.

Hurt - Goodbye to the Machine
8.5/10
Not my favorite album by hurt, but still amazing.
The music is generally slow and has high highs, and low lows. It's a bit reliant on emotions rather than the deep meaning that Tool can throw at ya'.
I highly recommend it to any fan of Grunge, Alternative, or general rock. It's really good.
If you don't intend on listening to the whole album, then at least check out their single from it, Wars

I'm continually surprised that Rosetta only have 64k listeners on last.fm. I find plenty of bands that are average compared to Rosetta and have twice the listeners.

You are right about the album being much more enjoyable when played all together.

4/5, most of the songs are retakes and some have pretty bad quality, but all in all the album is amazing.
Welp, time to bump this thrad, as it has been a great source of music lately for me. And, well, I'll review a couple of albums most of you wouldn't mind listening as they're in spanish.

MTV Unplugged: Comfort Y Música Para Volar (Comfort and music to fly)
The title delivers, this album is packed from the beginning to the end with very relaxing music, probably the best live performance ever recorded of Soda Stereo, perhaps the most influential band in spanish rock. Many of the songs are heavily modified to fit with the "unplugged" style, so the fans get a completely new thing. Definitely deserves a look.
The Microphones - The Glow Pt. 2 (2001)
[t]http://www.albumoftheyear.org/album/covers/the-glow-pt-2.jpg[/t]
4.5/5
The Glow Pt. 2 is a massive, droning, indie-folk album that is considered by many to be one of the best of the genre. I finally got around to listening to it yesterday and not only did I love it but I was almost completely blown away. The music on the album is very hard to describe. It ranges from indie-folk songs with off-time guitar strumming to explosive fuzzy folk songs to haunting droning tracks, all with Phil Elverum's ethereal vocals humming softly on top of them. The songs sort of flow together to give the album a very dream-like quality. One soft droning note is a reoccurring tie in many of the songs that keeps the album flowing until this note eventually swells into the last song which is basically the same note played over and over with very quiet and dreamy acoustic guitar fading in and out in the background, so quiet that sometimes you wonder if its there at all or if you're just imagining it. Adding to the dream-like qualities of this album is the lyrics. They are very surreal but equally relatable once you dig into them.
I'm still hesitant about giving this a "perfect" score. I'm sure one day this album will grow to that status for me, but for now I'm just going to explore it some more and see how I feel.

is it me or are the horns in The Moon the same as the horn part in the chorus of Holland 1945 by Neutral Milk Hotel?

6.5/10
It's a pop album with witty humour, what's not to like? Well, I will tell you. But I will also tell what I do like.
Some of the 'songs' like One Man Show require some attention which isn't always good.
The album has it's moments however, for example ''Oh Bo'', ''Words Words Words'' and ''Rant'' are both catchy and funny which is nice.
I said 'songs' because not every track on the album is entirely music.
But the album is quite long and a lot better with the actual performance.
All in all quite entertaining but it is a bit long for one sitting.

Genre: Post-Rock, Instrumental Rock
Honestly, very weak and underwhelming. Nothing on this was
particularly eye catching save for a few parts in some early songs.
I was actually very, very bored by the whole album, which is
something that is saddens me to say about a Godspeed record. I
wouldn't say this is unfocused, but it doesn't seem as thematic as
their other albums, which I believe was their intention. I just didn't like
this direction.
Hopefully the new music that is being worked on will be more focused
instead of "just raw, angry, dissonant, epic instrumental rock." which
even that I failed to see in this album.
Rating:2/5

that doesn't sound like a 3/5 review.
Maybe it's not...
Gotta think about it.
[editline]1st January 2012[/editline]
Yeah, it was definitely a 2/5. One song was good and Rockets Fall... was also decent. But it was just really boring. I think 2/5 is a just rating.
