you shouldn't just stick onto flobots when there's much shinier and beautiful gems if you go deeper
people take flobots when they wanna listen to hip-hop but don't want it to mess with the identity they made for themselves
Yeah Flobots aren't great. Try some hip hop that is true to itself.
Forgot to post a review of this.

Roger Waters - Amused To Death - 1992

I was hasty at first, but when I chucked this "to be his last studio album when he can" album on... I was in for a shock.
I enjoyed each and every song, for what they were. They were well crafted, and the guitar work was undoubtedly amazing (Jeff Beck) :smug:
I would say it's conceptually his strongest work yet, but also musically and lyrically.
One thing it's not, which did hint in the last 2 albums... is that it's a Pink Floyd album. This is more personal, although being about a monkey. It makes sense :buddy:

Some very nice 90s indie rock. Emotions are distributed well, very enjoyable instrumentals and very worthy to have.
I'll be hearing this again, I'm sure.

Facepunch doesn't much care for Coldplay, but if you listen to at least one of their albums, it should be their debut album, Parachutes, it's their best imo.
I kind of find it hard to describe, while not anything brand new, the songs on here are beautiful, maybe kind of sad if you want to look at it like that.

Curtains by John Frusciante. It's a lot less experimental then most of his albums, more accessable I guess. It was also the last of the six albums he made within 6 months, and mostly acoustic. It's pretty and dark sounding.
8/10
Parachutes is a good album, it's before Chris Martin realised he could be the biggest cunt on earth and still bang Gwyneth Paltrow

Erotic Cakes by Guthrie Govan.

Incredible solo work, which I respect so much more now that I've learned that all of his solos are totally improvised. It has a good range of musical styles, including funk, blues, metal, fusion jazz, and progressive, yet he manages to keep everything sounding fresh and stays true to each style. Took off a point because it isn't exactly cohesive from track to track, and because I HATE Rhode Island Shred.

Great album. I would rank this on par with Phantom on the Horizon. Has a progressive element in it that gets evolves in PotH.

Eminem's still a great rapper and the beats are pretty infectious but the album hasn't aged very well. Some of his "I'm tired of being famous stuff" sounds pretty laughable now and sometimes he comes across as more annoying than charming or menacing.

Very original sound, some great pop hooks. This guy knows how to bring some emotional resonance from just a couple of poorly recorded guitars and pianos.

I am not gonna write a whole story.
It's great Ska but wasn't awesome the whole way through, it was only good at times.

When you give good ratings, talk good about it. :argh:
It does sound aged though.. Unusual.

Again, really modern progressive rock and it works. This isn't quite as well defined as Hypnos 69 or Lunatic Soul, but this is still absolutely fantastic. There are plenty of keepers here and it flows with ease. I'm not sure if it's quite post-rock or borderline metal, but it's a worthy prog album of the decade.
One problem is that I just found out that they broke up this year. :smith:

nope. i started on dark side of the moon, then division bell, then obscured by clouds, now the wall.
ive listened to maybe one or two songs off all the other albums though.

I would go with Meddle and Animals before their later stuff.
But in all seriousness, it takes a lot of time to get through it.

Repeat listens will help you understand them more. Trust me. :smug:
Things like Momentary Lapse and Division Bell don't have much of a strong concept, so on first listen they are fairly easy to enjoy.

Tom Waits - Rain Dogs - 1985

Brilliant album. I need to grab a copy on vinyl if I can, it isn't quite as brilliantly put together as Swordfishtrombones or Bone Machine, but I can say he put his heart this project.
He incorporates a bag full of styles here, and this experimentalism is what keeps me hooked into his artistry.
Thank goodness he was inducted into the catalogue of rock and roll greats this year, because he is meant to be recognized.
This album may be his masterpiece, but I'm a bit on edge until I've heard all of it. It seems this is his most loved work though.

A bit crap that they had to break up only now. :argh:
Yeah, apparently they're all forming other projects however. The lead guitarist is touring with Biffy Clyro :v:

Bob Dylan - In Concert: Brandeis University, 1963 - 2011
B
It's an album discovered by sheer luck, found in a basement of a recently deceased critic. It's the last ever recording of the man in concert, before he became a phenomenon. The only album that was released when he did this concert was his very first one.
You get the idea that this is an important recording. It's a good album and you get the sense that even though he isn't a superstar yet he can still be appreciated for his musicianship.
I can't help but complain that it isn't cut very well, it's like the company just recorded the tape, seperated them out and put it as an album. There are announcements and vivid gaps in parts that make it unsettling.
All in all, it's nice to hear. But I'll shelve it for now :smug:
its more of a compilation of the first album demos
