So basically the album contains Symphonic Metal and Jazz Metal, except it doesn't include Jazz Metal. I'm completely fine with you loving this album, but its not some masterpiece of diversity.
I think i'll just go play with the nice kids...
I think i'll just go play with the nice kids...
ok enjoy spreading the lies. true lies.
I think i'll just go play with the nice kids...
False musical diversity just happens to be one of my ten billion pet peeves.
Subjective. Don't be silly. No way as overhyped as much other stuff. I'm just amazed at how well the diversity was handled. [editline]11th October 2012[/editline]
it does have that 1930s wine bar feel to it, is a bit jazzy. There is diversity on the album and the way it ends with a song that just recaps all the musical motifs in the album was clever, it's like how a play ends. But as an album its not THAT great. The movie will be much better.

Sure the singles can stand alone, but it's meant to bee heard in one run. I like it when an album looks and sounds like an actual album.
A new page and I have the next week off college... Might as well do another album marathon :v:
true but there are better examples, get your hands on some 70s prog
yeah be bound to find some jazz metal in there.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - The Heist -2012 = A+
yeah be bound to find some jazz metal in there.
I'm talking album continuity, not genre though you'd be more likely to find jazz metal in the King Crimson back catalogue than you would in a nightwish album
Isn't Swing Metal (a la Diablo Swing Orchestra) technically also Jazz Metal?
I'm talking album continuity, not genre though you'd be more likely to find jazz metal in the King Crimson back catalogue than you would in a nightwish album
wasn't sarcastic man. :-) jazz fusion has elements of metal in it sometimes anyway.
wasn't sarcastic man. :-) jazz fusion has elements of metal in it sometimes anyway.
oh my bad!
21st Century Schizoid Man?
Wouldn't call that metal
How about instead of searching for metal thats jazz, search for jazz thats metal? Like this hidden track (7:00)
Wouldn't call that metal
It's pretty English metal. I wouldn't call it Jazz-Metal or something like that, but I would say it has some metal-like things in it.
Closest thing I know of to jazz metal
It's pretty English metal. I wouldn't call it Jazz-Metal or something like that, but I would say it has some metal-like things in it.
Iron Maiden? Saxon? Nwobhm? Nah...

Radiohead - OK Computer 10/10 I don't even have to talk to you guys about it.
A short discography rundown of: Coroner [t]http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uR441wyWLOs/T6tLUi2NTmI/AAAAAAAABkw/Zu_vvDu7JY4/s1600/488.jpg[/t] R.I.P Genre: Thrash metal, technical thrash metal 8/10 Coroners debut feels closer to traditional thrash rather than the progressive-technical mix they're best known for. Yes, there are technical tendencies here, but they aren't blatantly obvious. It also has a hint of early Celtic Frost in the mix, mainly due to the fact that Tom G. Warrior did vocals on their last demo tape. He also wrote the track Spiral Dream. It's great but it didn't exactly blow me away. Sample: When Angels Die [t]http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zIjvhF7n3S4/TkcGtirOueI/AAAAAAAAAYs/AWMf8Hgfdy4/s1600/coroner_punishment.jpg[/t] Punishment for Decadence Genre: Technical thrash metal, thrash metal 8/10 On Punishment for Decadence, Coroner shows their true colors (Ironic considering their next album was entitled No More Color). The album keeps it's heavy thrash influences but adds more progressive and technical influences into the mix, making it a bona-fide technical metal album. There's still plenty of thrash to be found, however, making it a perfect bridge to their next album. There's also a pretty fun Jimi Hendrix cover at the end. Sample:Masked Jackal [t]http://www.metal-archives.com/images/4/9/3/493.jpg[/t] No More Color 10/10 Genre: Technical thrash metal, progressive thrash metal, thrash metal Coroner's third and best album, No More Color, combines the thrash sound and the technical motifs of previous records. This album hints a bit closer to progressive metal, something that would appear on consecutive records as well. Everything here is great. The liver smashing riffs, the gruff vocals, the throat slashing solos; it comes together for one hell of a combo. Sample: Mistress of Deception [t]http://www.metal-archives.com/images/4/9/7/497.jpg[/t] Mental Vortex 9/10 Genre: Progressive thrash metal, technical thrash metal No More Color hinted at more progressive influence. Mental Vortex puts it out on front. The pacing has been lowered and it's less shred oriented. However it avoid turning into chug-metal, ultimately making it a more interesting experience. Everything here is great. There's also a pretty interesting Beatles cover in the end Sample: Semtex Revolution [t]http://www.remnantsofreason.com/temp/images/reviews/Coroner-Grin_cover.jpg[/t] Grin 8/10 Genre: Progressive thrash metal, technical thrash metal, alternative metal When I first heard Grin I was somewhat shocked. Even in comparison to their last album, the pace was slower. However, after listening to it a few time, it's easy to see how they got to this point. The guitars have somewhat of an industrial tone to them, the normally plain gruff vocals are now replaced with harsher growls, and the progressive influences are obvious. It's great, but comes off as a bit stale at some points. Still, it leaves a lasting impression and is a worthy close to a great band. The Cairos - Colours Like Features Some really catchy guitar based indie rock. In Australia we don't have many good bands but there are some great pub rock acts around that just go to and from our major cities doing live gigs, but not getting much further than that. I'm hoping these guys go further because they're a solid act with some great songs - not experimental or too different yet, but this is their first EP and it's already solid, catchy and could garner a good amount of radio airplay without me resenting it doing so. Pretty spacey rock solo and there's some interesting textures for a first EP and I think these guys will go far. 7/10 and high hopes, give them a shot on youtube, they're releasing an album soon
I dont like it when this thread is dead
ok Atoma - Skylight - 2012 A- I was told this was "atmospheric doom metal", it really wasn't. What I got was a really soothing piece of ambient rock. Highly worthy in a time where things like this are starting to get a bit naff and copycat. For me one of the better progressive rock albums this year, even more so than the latest Marillion album. Unexpected piece of goodness.

The Beatles - With The Beatles - 1963 Rating : 9/10 I gave it a 9/10 because it's the near perfect album of the Beatles. Alot of their early are great rock and roll titles. However, the perfect 10/10 album in this band's catalog is Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I feel that since it shown the difference that the Beatles have grown apart from this early era to signify a more beautiful future in the long and winding road ahead.
The Weeknd - Trilogy Rating: ★★★★☆ Just got my hands on the Weeknd's debut studio album, "Trilogy". Basically all 3 of his Mix Tapes that he released for free in 2011 but better sound quality put into one Album including 4 extra songs. Despite the fact that i already have all his mix tapes, I bought it to support him. I give it 4.5/5 stars.
Caspa - Everybody's Talking, Nobody's Listening! Rating: ★★★★☆ (Thanks for the stars, toastedjam. :v:) I've been a bit of a fan of Caspa's music for a while but never really gave this album a chance, so I decided to. In my opinion, listening to this album at dubstep's current stage of robot noises and sirens is a massive relief. I'd say, if you're into the darker, deeper side of dubstep, definitely check this one out if you haven't already.
