Planningtorock - W 2.5/5 I liked what I was hearing, at first. But unfortunately I thought every track sounded like one long intro that never gets anywhere.
Björk - Debut 5.5/10
The Outside Agency - The Dogs Are Listening 10/10 Waited so long before it finally got delivered in the mail, but it was worth it. [editline]21st November 2012[/editline] Wow, why didn't that merge.
I was thinking about doing another album marathon, but I dont want to post 2 marathons on the same page, so I'll wait until next page to do it.

Blackwater Park - Dirt Box Genres: Hard rock, progressive rock 8/10 Dirt Box reminds me a lot of popular classic hard rock bands like Steppenwolf at some points but reminds me of the hard rock tunes by Focus at other points. As far as sound goes, you'll get your standard hard classic rock sounds mixed with progressive song writing. There's some genuinely fantastic songs on here; Rock Song is a hard hitting 8 minute epic with an almost dark, metal-like riff, Mental Block reminds me of Focus's Hocus Pocus and several Deep Purple tunes, and the Beatles cover at the end isn't half bad either. As fantastic as some of these songs are, a couple of tracks keep it down. Most namely Roundabout (not a Yes cover, btw) and Dirty Face. Roundabout it pretty boring and forgettable while Dirty Face's awkward piano and cheesy chorus ruin any value the song had. Most of the stuff here is great, however, but i can't help but feel like it come just a little short from being a classic.

Unlike most throwback prog though, they keep their own style and really give the whole album an original and refreshing feel. I don't like Opeth's usual, death metal-y sound, but their other albums are really good. Lots of samples, which I'm not really that much of a fan of, but when it gets crazy, it really does get crazy. In a good way, of course. It just doesn't get crazy enough often enough. Amazing Album to chill out too and relax. This is blackmill's latest album. 9/10 Blackmill's Earlier album. Still a very good album 8.5/10
"Son Of The Shades" by Elffor Nice ambient black/folk metal. Similar-ish to Summoning. Three Tsundere Vargs of Four! Thats a very silly album cover
Is that Bill Bailey?
8/10, I'm starting to see why people see Nick Cave as such a genius
8.5/10 I didn't even know what I was about to listen to or if I was going to even like it. But this album is fucking great. My only real complaint is some of the songs can be a bit long winded. I'm gonna have to adjust my favorite albums of 2012 now.
Is it new page time now [editline]5th December 2012[/editline] Yes, yes it is. Going to do me a fourth marathon tomorrow or this weekend or w/e I feel like it. Could use a few more recommendations if you folks got any.
Could use a few more recommendations if you folks got any.
you listened to Atoma? You'd like it, it's good prog from this year.
you listened to Atoma? You'd like it, it's good prog from this year.
Listened to it ages ago. It was just ok in my opinion.
Listened to it ages ago. It was just ok in my opinion.
new Anglagard perhaps?
new Anglagard perhaps?
Maybe, not feeling like mellow prog rock though.
oh wow just discovered this: http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/steve_hackett/genesis_revisited_ii/ DAMN, have to listen to that immediately.
oh wow just discovered this: http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/steve_hackett/genesis_revisited_ii/ DAMN, have to listen to that immediately.
Oh yeah, Killer made a post about that in the prog rock thread some time ago. Completely forgot about it too.
Okay, I've got a list of albums I'll do for my marathon right here. In no particular order: Coroner - Grin Secret Chiefs 3 - Book M Anathema - Weather Systems Boris - New Album Dr. Steel - People Of Earth Karnivool - Themata Brant Bjork - Saved by Magic Meshuggah - I Pure Reason Revolution - Amor Vincit Omnia Nils Frahm - Wintermusik Boredoms - Super Æ The Megas - History Repeating (Blue) Egg - Egg Electric Moon - Inferno I'll start tomorrow!
listened to the Hackett album just now... that's 3 genesis members that sounds peter gabriel/phil collins-esque Great album though. For a cover album I didn't think it would be but it's damn good.

I actually think a lot of the covers are just as good as the originals. The Can Utility & The Coastliners cover was great, and Supper's Ready was incredibly on it I think I might order it
The Chemical Brothers - Dig Your Own Hole 9/10 One of my favourite elctronic albums ever. The only things I'd mark it down for are the tracks "It Doesn't Matter" and "Don't Stop The Rock" as they have a slight air of filler about them, but it's a testament to how great this album is that even the filler is brilliant.
What, Genesis Revisited? I wasn't aware he sung on that
just looked up the discogs, yeah he didn't. The guests then were very good. But what's great about this album is how they all put a lot more emphasis on Steve's guitar work as compared to the originals. [editline]7th December 2012[/editline]
I think I might order it
It's really worth listening to.. didn't expect a gem like that to be released this year. 2 hour and a half hours of pure awesome.
Yeah, it had a great guest list, people like steven wilson and mikael akerfeldt, numerous former members of king crimson like john wetton and others like roine stolt from flower kings or whoever and neal morse actually, apparently hackett did sing, just not on every track Also Simon Collins who is the son of Phil
