The problem is that people that don't know how to swim will start stomping and shit so they get pushed down by panic
I don't really wanna learn how to swim because I almost drowned as a kid. I won't go in water any deeper than my neck.
i myself never had to learn how to swim, so i wouldn't know what it would be like
when i was younger i didn't like the idea of deep water, so i kept postponing entry to such pools until at some point my teacher literally picked me up from the side of the walkway and threw me into an 8 meter deep pool
i just made the movements that i thought would make sense to keep me floating and it went just fine, there was never any potential danger
and ever since that day i enjoyed swimming to the very bottom of that pool with a bunch of friends to tag the floor as fast as we could
I nearly drowned in my uncle's pool when I was 12 years old.
Haven't stepped in anything but shallow water since.
most drowning occurs as a result of the person not knowing how to tread or move in water without splashing around, wasting energy
for reference if you're ever trapped in a body of water, hold your breath and float on your back. your lungs swell like porous balloons, dragging your upper body above the medium. you can even sleep like this, not very comfortable though :v:

I don't know how to float on my back though, I'm scared of doing it :frown:
when i take a deep breath i can't even swim downwards if i tried, the force that makes me float back up is stronger than the movements that propel me down
As a kid, I used to think I was way too fat to float and would just sink to the bottom like a rock.

I've swam in the sea it's pretty alright. I prefer the salt water to the smell of chlorine.

I instruct adults too and we've had some that almost drowned as a kid, its definitely tougher for them but they usually learn how to float and swim properly in the 8 30 minute lessons we have over two weeks.

PE taught most kids how to swim at my school, even for those that didn't wanna go in they at least held some verbal and instructional courses just in case.
Even have my old bronze rescue pin, where we swam with clothes on and dragged someone out of water. :smile:
