Update on the family drama:
Since my Aunt actually has power of attorney and not my sister's father, we'll be taking care of the kids for a little while. It's a huge relief to know they're safe. Dunno if my mom and dad are still planning to move or anything, though. At least for now, we have some solace.

I'm already on 100% tuition plus an extra 10k from the engineering department, so
if all goes well I'll know on the 12th if I'm an RA, and then I'll actually be earning money and not paying housing/meal plans. Might join Kappa Sigma, actually.
Oh god I would shit if I got all of my tuition paid for. If I keep my 4.0 up for this year, it might start to turn that way, who knows.
I also want to study abroad but everywhere I want to go isn't official with the university so I can't use financial aid :(
How does paying for tuition work in the US?
In Australia we get a government loan which pays the immediate costs, and later gets deducted from pay when wages are above $54,000 a year.
I am so ashamed of my GPA :/
Its closed a lot of doors on me, and I don't really have a legitimate excuse. Wish I had a better work ethic, but I'll get there eventually. And after a lot of money.

for me paying for college goes as such:
-I am faced with 35,000 a year or so
-The university credits me 27,000
-The engineering department credits me 2,500
-The government credits me 5,500
-I pay the remainder
Next year, because I won't have to pay to live on campus or for a meal plan, I won't have to take the federal loan and I'll just pay probably a thousand or so.
Not a bad deal. I was one ACT point away from getting 32k over four years, which definitely would've helped me in the long run. Now I just have to wait and see what the engineering department here gives in terms of scholarships next year, since they don't usually give scholarships to freshmen.
