don't let other peoples' opinions alter what you like
[QUOTE=Mysterious;49687239]I unironically like Phil Collins and Genesis.

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word 'artist'.
i'm so bad at reacting to really bad news
i never know what to say that doesn't sound like i'm just trying to look sympathetic and i always feel absolutely awful about it

I feel you, bro. I can never do "sympathy" as a facial expression, it always comes out stone faced.

yeah, and it's not even anything to do with lack of empathy
i can feel terrible about it but i still can't figure out what to say without worrying that it's gonna come out wrong
then i just don't say much and feel like that makes me look like a jerk too
or i don't know how much it's actually affecting them and i don't wanna look like i'm laying it on which would also seem fake
and i guess it's kinda selfish to be thinking about myself so much when someone else is going through something but idk

I have so many of the same thoughts, damn. Except without the empathy bit :v:
When my uncle died, it devastated everyone. But I felt nothing... And didn't know what to express. What does grief look like? Why didn't I grieve? Why can't I feel? It happened when my dad's dad died. My dad made fun of and bashed him still, but seemed sorta sad. I felt nothing.
Argh. It's irritating. Makes me feel broken. I mean, it really hurts me when I hurt someone or can't help someone, so it tore me up to not feel anything or be able to do anything.

That's how I felt when my dad died...

To this day, I still don't know how I feel about the whole thing...

I think that kinda stuff depends on the situation.
Everyone grieves in their own way I think, not everyone is gonna show all the classic signs. I've felt pretty similar before. I wouldn't say you're broken. Understanding that everyone is upset at the very least means you're being empathetic.
For me it's not a situation I've had to deal with often, and I'm obviously very thankful for that. I think that's why I'm not so good at dealing with it.
I've had things that have happened where I've felt miserable but didn't know what to do about it. But when something happens to someone else I always feel kinda lost just because I don't know how to react.
I wouldn't stab myself over it. Sometimes people are devastated, others not so much over someone's death.
I was more sad about my Uncle's death than my great grandmother's death, even though she lived with us for a long time.

I don't think I feel so little because I'm noble and value others so much more, I just think I value myself so little. Which is retarded, but oh well.
These antidepressants have made me feel... Well like what you'd expect a 20yr old dude finally accepting his sexuality to feel like. I think. Maybe I'm fooling myself. Haven't fully stopped the depression, though.

I am not sure if turning down the chance to get laid was the right choice, dude seems friendly and pretty cool and I've had absolutely zero luck on grindr or tinder lately
Man, I'd feel I'd be too oblivious to tell if someone was hitting on me or not.
I'd definitely start sweating bullets if someone offered to take my virginity and I thought they were cute :v:

The best reaction I feel is along the lines of "No idea how it feels, but I'll support you because I know it must be horrifying". Totally mutual understanding.
You can't really react to something that didn't happen to you, so there's no sense in trying to. Just let them know that you'll accept them and help them, and they'll know you care.

I threw up about 5 times, once in the club and once in a taxi, spent an hour proped against my front door just throwing up down it. All in front of my boss too...
[editline]7th February 2016[/editline]
AAAAAH real life hurts so much
Ok tl;dr I got some Back to the Future movies from this girl that I liked since she heard that I'd never seen the movies before.
After watching them, should I give some DVDs of mine too? No not my kaiju shit that's special, I mean like Great Mouse Detective, etc.

I would suggest you let her have a few films you like. Even if she doesn't like them all that much, unless its Human Centipede levels of fucked she'll still think higher of you for being generous.
Hell, since you find your kaiju shit special, see if you can invite her over and have a lovely time watching old monster films

Bust out some poopcorn and drinks and maybe some blankets. Don't be afraid to be a bit enthusiastic, just try not to be preachy

No he was an ugly looking rugby player in his 40s and me and my friends were just laughing at him most of the night, he kept saying "I'm a rugby boy so its normal" when he was talking about penis for at least 2 hours

Yes, well, I still recommend you persuade her over. Watch your language too, in the sense of "I hope you'll like" instead of "you WILL like it" for example. Only siths deal in absolutes
