Most likely he has HSFX since that's what all the cool kids are playing with now. [editline]28th December 2011[/editline] def. getting the new one once price drops.
you kidding? the IL2 and its derivative the IL10 are some of the best planes in the game. the IL10 is a motherfucking flying tank, it literally has an endless supply of ammunition and it takes machine gun and cannon fire like a champ. [editline]29th December 2011[/editline] also playing online with a bunch of FPers over vent is quite literally the best thing one can do on a weekend, we need to get another game going soon
We should create a thread somewhere and organize that everyone has the same ultrapack version and that we get a server

I have Wings of Prey, is IL2 better than it?
Oh hey, it's the guy who did these videos
I have Wings of Prey, is IL2 better than it?
1946 is leagues better. They are almost impossible to compare. The only similarities they share are planes and setting. 1946 is my favorite plane sim of all time. Nothing even comes close.

no, nor did it have the realism, variety, and fun-factor of IL2
Was hoping for a huge explosion at around 1.37 Still a pretty awesome video :v:
It's a shame Cliffs of Dover runs terribly on my computer, otherwise I would play it a lot more.
Gotta install this game again. I find it hard to just get the right speed. My teammates always leave me behind :(
Cruise at around 75% throttle, make sure to trim your elevators and ailerons so that you fly straight, and you should be able to keep up with anything. The biggest problem is not flying straight; as long as your trim everything correctly you should be solid.
I have Wings of Prey, is IL2 better than it?
Neither Wings of Prey or Birds of prey were developed by Maddox. Cliffs of dover is however a proper sequel, albeit unfinished and with a quarter of the content.
It's a shame Cliffs of Dover runs terribly on my computer, otherwise I would play it a lot more.
Runs like shit on almost everyone's computer.
I wish I could play IL-2. But I lost my joystick a looong time ago.
What mod does everyone recommend to use?
What mod does everyone recommend to use?
The only thing I would consider essential is unlocking all the AI planes as being flyable, which is done by practically any major mod pack in existence. A link to Fusion pack lite is a couple of posts above.

So which mod has that?
Are there any mods that add in TrackIR support?

Looks like fun, which one would be better to get? The first or second?
IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 has more content, runs well, has a big online community with lots of mods and is cheap. Cliffs of Dover has better graphics, runs like shit on 95% of computers and has less content, but they're constantly adding things. Wings/Birds of Prey is a consolized oversimplification of IL-2 Sturmovik that wasn't developed by Maddox (The creators of Cliffs of Dover and 1946) so it's completely different. Personally i'd go for IL-2 Sturmovik 1946, it's probably on sale on the steam store somewhere and we'll be having a big facepunch get together soonish.
Thanks, it's a shame there is no mouse control for flight, I don't have the room for a joystick on my desk.
I use a 360 controller and it's perfectly adequate for this game.
Haven't got a 360. Isn't there a way to use a PS3 controller and make the PC think it's a 360 one?
Good god the full fusion mod is 5gb and the torrent has one single seed... guess I better download the 15 parts through the site!
Haven't got a 360. What I'd recommend doing is buying a wired 360 controller for like 30 bucks, works perfect with windows right out of the box.

But the way you guys talk about it, would I be using it to control the plane's flight AND using the keyboard as well? Since there seems to be a lot of different functions you can do. Sorry for going off topic.

Sorry for going off topic.
The only thing you really need a joystick for is the actual flight itself, even if you have a big expensive joystick you probably won't have enough buttons for all the functions that planes have. So yes, you will almost certainly be using both the controller and a keyboard.
