Lol all of these little Japanes things you guys talk about makes me feel nostalgic from when I first moved to Japan.
Fuck you CIBC for your international support line starting with 1-902-lahblahblah.
Fuck you too brain, for assuming that the international code was 1, thus me accidentially dialing 119.
That was amazingly embarrassing.

Citadines. It's a block or so over but I know that building and the Toho Cinema
So for the military personnel that got quartered in Oki/Zama, how are the locals?
I hear accounts from my boss that just got back that the Japanese love English-speakers and many actually admire your efforts to learn/speak their language.

In Oki the locals don't hate you like some people are lead to believe. They will appreciate it when Americans try to learn Japanese outside of the customary shit like good morning, afternoon, excuse me, and please etc.
How come movies are so much easier to understand than normal shows? I watched おおかみこどもの雨と雪 and バトル・ロワイアル unsubbed and felt like I understood way more than any anime I watch (日常 is very silly).
This is a great movie to watch if you're practicing recognizing vocabulary and stuff. It's got a lot of fairly common/simple words in it.
And it's also an amazing movie!
So how did you guys learn Japanese? I'm looking to start studying it.

then after you get through his kana lessons, buy a genki 1 textbook
Videos on this site: http://www.yesjapan.com/video/ are also great in my opinion, I like listening to them while cooking/playing games/etc., though I recommend learning the very basics first.
You also need a lot of time, patience, hard work and dedication. Study every day, and within a couple of years you might get really, really good at Japanese.
Tae Kim's guide is excellent for grammar: http://www.guidetojapanese.org/learn/complete
Kanji is a bitch, get prepared for a long slog though all ~2000 you need to read every day stuff.
Kana is very important so make sure you get it down solid as fast as you can.
I'll try to exercise my rickety Japanese here
私はリクエストがある。今日、私はrakuten.jpにはジョジョの奇妙な冒険 一部から 6部まで 完全セットを見た。私はジョジョの奇妙な冒険が大好きだから、セットを買うが欲しいです。しかし、ホンコン人として、rakuten.jpのことは買えない。私は日本人友達がないで、あなたたちは私が助けられますか。
Please correct me for any incorrect grammar/teach me how to write that better(or less clumsily), thanks!
And PM me if you can help.

That flight sucked but dammit I wanna go back next summer.
I decided to take a weeks break from learning new kanji to let my review counts go down but I gave up on the break after three days, please send help.
I wish I could say the same, I tend to not study at all over the weekend.
Granted the "studying" I'm doing during the week is Anki on the subway with only 5 new cards daily. I tend to get discouraged if too much review piles up, which is why I stopped my Core 10K deck, 20 new a day left too much to review and it made me feel like I wasn't accomplishing anything.
Swapping Rikaisama to Sanseido mode has been going well. I did a double take when the definition it gave for 「開始」 was just 「スタート。」, it also provided (対)終了 but unfortunately that definition was not [エンド」.
I also try to remind myself that Japan is not weird, it's just different but then I see stuff on twitter like a iPhone case shaped like a kitchen sponge and it makes it hard. Also seared tuna iPhone cases, and leek iPhone cases. Waiting patiently for the kitchen sink iPhone case.
タカナシトリコや坂上なちや綾倉盟が好きな歌い手です。Alstroemeria Recordsが最高ですね。Bloomingが私の一番好きな歌。ななひらの声がめちゃハイピーチから、私の耳が外出血。
Not sure if I should shove a 「私は」 in the first sentence or if state of being will take care of it (if there's one thing I took to heart early on it is that the subject is almost always left out). Sorry for butchering your language. Also not sure whether 「歌」or「曲」fits better there, but with this font and size 「曲」 is not symmetrical. I'm probably using bleeding wrong because I quickly looked that up when I was typing this.
I really should try to keep a diary again, my output is so bad.
私の書くのが下手です。
Sorry again.
Has anyone registered for the JLPT test this year? I just signed up for the N3 level.
Helifreak, I'll try to help you out a little. "Uta" is for song (with lyrics) and "Kyoku" is for a piece of music without lyrics. I would also put "watashiwa" in the first sentence.

I have to say for some reason I thought it was absolutely hilarious that he gets the last letter slightly wrong at the very end of the video.
I was feeling really good about myself, getting a decent number of words in anime, reading yotsuba with only minor corrections and I even did 30 days solid anki without missing a day.
Then I installed dragons dogma online (no english localisation at all)
Holy fuck I have a lot to learn
EDIT: I'm considering applying for JET but I'm really not sure. I'm about to finish my bachelors and I don't have work lined up but I'm kinda worried I won't be able to find work (quickly) after I come back.
Has anyone been on/is on JET? I kinda have a few questions.

Do you need a VPN to actually play or just to download the installer? I don't really feel like getting a VPN just for this and 20GB is going to take days to download so I'd rather not if it isn't going to work.
Glad to see that this thread is still, somewhat, going. I found two others, but they were dead.
今、私は大学で日本語をべんきょういます。I was wondering about how I could phrase a sentence such as, "I have class at 5."
What I opted to write was,「 私の言語学のクラスは5じにはじまりました。」.
I was wondering if could have written something like, 「私のクラスは5じにあった。」.
Would this work because I could write, 「クラスはあった。」.
Sorry, my Japanese is very elementary, but my class is extremely easy and I am very eager to move on.
Any good sites out there that can help people learn japanese.
Chrome appears to be using some new super thin font and it's only a little hard to read

I know it's quoted at the top of the page, but it's important.
今日は「ハングル文字」を検索した。ハングル文字が優しいと思う。「子音」と「母音」を聞知した。最近は私 のAnkiの単語帳に1000漢字を入った。3ー4月頃に2000漢字を入ったから、めっちゃ単語を勉強と 思う。
東方の20周年の生放送を見った。それは超長いけど、楽しいです。
I really need to just write random shit down in a file somewhere, takes me so long to think of how to say things. 「聞知」 is probably the wrong word for learn.猫たち。
Hey guys, sorry if this isn't the best place to post but I can't think of anywhere else aside from Neotokyo's forums.
I've been examining the game's typography and signs out of sheer curiosity and I wanted to know what the translation of a few of these signs were. If anyone could help me out that would be awesome.
