Never knew this thread existed. Basically I visited Kansai last year and absolutely fell in love with Osaka, I'm now looking at going to language school there for a couple of years, most likely in spring 2019 to see if I can get myself to a good level since it is currently sumimasen/10. Should be taking another trip or two before then, can't wait really. Its probably what is gonna push me to finally get a degree in something and actually make something of my life. If anyone needs Osaka/Kansai related info or tips on cool things to see, let me know. So how about stories from life in Japan, you people will love this one. I was walking to a Starbucks in the city today, and while I was walking there in the shopping center, I could have sworn I saw some dude with Kirito's sword. So I looked twice and I definitely saw him holding this [t]https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61u5CoZy5cL._SX342_.jpg[/t] then I was like :what: Just a normal day in Japan :v: [sp]/s actually I have never even seen something like that here before in such a public location, but perhaps the fact that there is an Animate store right nearby might have something to do with it[/sp] also I only recognize it because I watched the series once and did not even like it that much so please do not call me an anime otaku

Holy fuck this thread is completely broken on newpunch.
Do not exchange money in Japan. Literally every exchange and banks offers unbelievably awful rate. Exchange your Yens in your home country in advance instead. If you ever do run out of cash in Japan and needs more money, you'll actually get better rate directly withdrawing from your bank's ATM card in Japan instead of exchanging foreign cash.
Is there a way to switch back to hiragana mode from katakana mode on Microsoft's IME without having to hit alt + shift twice? Also どうぞうよろしく and all that. Earlier today I was hanging around a Japanese background music stream, and I noticed that whenever a certain female user called チア was brought up, everyone got into a very argumentative mood (from my limited understanding). Is that something normal for Youtube communities? I found it weird that one person would be the focus of a music stream with 800+ viewers. Is there any better way of chatting with natives in a live format?
The Microsoft one is a piece of shit, get Google's IME it's better in every way. Also has binds to swap between flavours of kana.
damn this thread wild http://i.cubeupload.com/dpijR0.png
Why are old kana/kanji broken while everything posted now is functioning properly?
Because Garry is shit at forum migration and/or vbulletin being a steaming turd.
Are there other alternatives available besides MS and Google that are good? I've been looking for good keyboards for my phone as well, what do you guys here use? Ideally it'd be one you can input the kanji, kanas as well as latin characters from... because it'd be convenient. I've found some like Wnn that seem like they'd be a good fit but haven't had an opportunity to really try it out yet.
Switched to Google's pretty early on and had no issues so I haven't actually looked to see if there's anything else better. I use SImeji on my Android, swipe input is really the fastest way to input moon runes on a phone. Also decided to try swipe on the Latin keyboard ~6 months ago and found it to be faster and less error prone than qwerty but it's not for everyone. Took about a week to get used to it, shortly after that single handed swipe was beating single and dual handed qwerty.
I've tried this swiping nonsense but my fat fingers don't make it work out. Or maybe fat fingers make QWERTY worse and I don't invest enough time into trying swiping. I'll give it a shot, thanks!
No idea why it wants camera but it has voice recognition which I've never tried.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_4fyZPw5SY I think about this every day.
What I miss the most is the announcement for the Tohoku-Hokkaido Shinkansen, since that's the route I've taken the most out of all other shinkansen routes [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4pd5EaBg4U ]
July and August are two months to avoid if you want cheap flights, since they are always popular months at just about everywhere. If you want cheap flights, go at low seasons like around May or around September, for example. Also if you haven't discovered this website yet, check out Japan Guide's page for Tokyo. This website gives pretty good coverages in most destinations in Japan
got back from my tokyo trip a few days ago and i already miss it. definitely going back to japan next year, probably for a month so i can hit up more than just tokyo also i will never go during the summer again. i thought a month in indonesia would help me acclimate to hot and humid weather but it still felt horrible af in tokyo.
(I'm winging the shit out of it.)
読み物なら、この二つのリンクがいいと思います。 ニュース(大抵難しくありません):NEWS WEB EASY 小説など(様々な難易度があります):星空文庫
でも、それは高かきます。初歩的課程がぐらい百米ドルです。
