It didn't sound as bad as some of you made it seem.. It's not perfect, or near it, the recording could use some more work, maybe even record the guitar separately so you could make it louder, the voice has a good tone, good potential, obviously need more work, but it's far from bad. You would sound a lot better with more support and I think your voice is a bit too "breathy" making it sound like a whisper, so do some breathing exercises, and don't give up.
I expected to hear Closer by Nine Inch Nails, but good nonetheless!
Yeah I was like, Shit THis is going to be good. lol Anyways Nice Voice.
I was surprised that you didn't suck. That said, the only good thing Dido ever did was create something Eminem could sample. Sing something else next time. Not even close, champ. I'm seeing a clear drift on nearly every note. Anywhere between four and fifty cents up (mostly sharp) or down consistently, not counting the obviously off spots thanks to her warbling. http://www.dump.no/files/556800ff76ad/Didolol.mp3 To translate that into something useful for the lass: You're close to being in tune consistently. Try singing with less of a flourish and more effort solely toward hitting pitches. You might want to practice in front of a tuner as well, and just practice bending your voice up and down by the most minute increments you can.
What the fuck is that why did you warble the recording? All you did was increase the cents by which her voice moves between. That doesn't really prove a thing. Yes, voices naturally have vibrato. Your post makes it look like you're making vibrato out to be a bad thing. If a singer had a voice that could literally sing notes without any vibrato, it would sound very bland.
Your voice sounds slightly nasally when you're singing but you have potential and I still thought it was pretty nice.

Your post makes it look like you're making vibrato out to be a bad thing.
Jesus Christ. This is the wrong variance in pitch for an intentional vibrato (too small) or a small variance in pitch that comes naturally (too large), so you're either suggesting she's trying to do every note vibrato purposefully (and terribly!) or is incapable of keeping her natural warble at a reasonable level. Regardless, humans perceive vibrato tones to be the mean of their overall frequencies, so when you're sharp more often than not, you're out of tune. I've run the original artist through Autotune as well, I suppose we're going to pretend there are supposed to be notes that have vibrato in your friend's take that weren't in the original for artistic reasons or some bullshit? Or that it doesn't pick up a smaller warble on Dido's take outside of articulations because of magic pixie interference? What would it take to ram this through your skull, video of the tuner going through both takes? Instead of getting your knickers in a twist because somebody pointed out her voice has room for improvement, why don't you help her look for lessons and stop being a defensive twat? Not being able to immediately hit a given tone isn't musical. Not being able to end a tone without going sharp of flat at the end isn't musical. Not being able to sustain a tone without warbling isn't musical. These are things which all trained singers can avoid to some degree, and far better than she has demonstrated she is capable of. These are also things she could fix with practice.

But you're making it more than it really is. You're blowing it way out of proportion, IMO. I'm not being defensive at all.
So this is what happens when DOG-GY and I get together and he secretly records me. The song is not mine. It's "Closer" by Dido. Comments? Consructive criticism? Smart-ass remarks? Oh, and yeah. I am totally aware that I'm a chick. No need to tell me.
Okay, this is addressed too -GTFMiika-, not your boyfriend who is jumping in too defend you. I liked it, it's pretty solid, but that's the problem with it, it's just pretty solid, the main thing you should do now is either work on those notes. That doesn't mean that you're bad, or need to learn how to sing, but everyone needs improving, you have a pretty distinctive vocal sound though. Which is what lead too the whole "unhealthy vocal chords" comments. The other thing too work on is trying to make it instumentally distinctive, just being solid will never do.
Sign this lady a well deserved record, god damn.
Why is it that you think that because I'm responding to people that I'm "defending" her? Yeah, I responded to criticism and disagreed. If I was any random user, though, I wouldn't be dubbed as defending. Anyways, johny mcmill, I'm not going to "jump" on any post that says she needs improvement. I haven't. I like your post. It was good.

But in all seriousness, you do seem pretty defensive, maybe if you chilled down a little, it wouldn't look so defensive.
You guys are so awkward together. Fuck each other already.

I come off as pissed all the time or defensive when I really don't mean to be. I realize where I am, I've been here for a year. I just don't like being dubbed defensive when I feel that I'm making an effort to not be. I'm going to sit down with her and talk to her about things she could improve on and such. She told me she didn't want my family to hear, and I asked her to sing more fully next time. That would probably address some of the posts. All in all, I don't mean to seem defensive when I post. I'm only responding to things I disagree with, regardless that she's my girlfriend. If it were someone I didn't know and someone posted a comment I disagreed with, I would still respond the same. This was an okay cover. But it only has as much views as it does because you're a girl.
I thought it was pretty good, but dog-gy's being a little too defensive.
I thought it was pretty good, but dog-gy's being a little too defensive.
I was going to be a smartass and reply overly defensively to this post but I lazied.
