how many rovers you got on mars, norway?
As many as the number of wars we've started the last 100 year.
Okay, I understand being excited about America doing this. Its an "AMERICA FUCK YEAH" moment, but I believe we must be careful not to be egotistic. We have received help from other nations, but this was American lead. We either need to reach the planet in person alone, or more likely, together as a planet.
Sad that national pride is what caused our massive progress in space exploration.
But anyway,
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
WE'RE ON MARS
Before this thread becomes a nationalism shit fest they say THEY GOT NEW PICTURES FROM MARS AT THE CONFERENCE!
Look past all the patriotic bullshit and see that this is the first step to sending men to mars.
Maybe they're just refering to the ones they took awhile ago but fuck it WOOOOOOOOOO HUMANITY
why is nasa using windows xp
why is nasa using windows xp
Yeah i noticed that
Hilarious.
As far as I'm concerned, these rovers belong to every human on Earth, and it would not have been possible without the contributions to technology by many nations.
curiosity is an american project, under american lead, staffed by american scientists, built on american soil, and funded by american dollars

Be humble that our nation has the ability to propel our species into space. This achievement belongs to all of humanity. Yes, the United States is responsible for this feat, we are perhaps, the only nation with the capabilities and wealth to do such a historical thing as landing a car on a planet, but it's a feat that belongs to all of us.

National pride is stupid, you put no effort into being born in America.
(I'm out of this discussion now, because I'm just happy that we've managed to land it, and because it's a moment in history I'd rather not remember as a discussion about patriotism on an Internet forum)

national pride has accomplished quite a few massive things in our past

i'm just sick of europeans bitching whenever americans are proud of their own accomplishments
this really was almost entirely an american achievement, and we have every right to be proud of ourselves for it
national pride has accomplished quite a few massive things in our past
How heavily were you involved with the Curiosity project? Oh right, shut up.
national pride has accomplished quite a few massive things in our past
National pride has accomplished quite a few amazing things and probably even more terrible things.

Manhattan Project?
Iraq War?
Manhattan Project?
Iraq War?
Holocaust?
Pretty much every war ever?
I'm not gonna make a list, try to think about it.
I'm proud to come from a country that has the ability to do such a thing. I'm proud for humanity for the same reason. Let's leave it at that.
How heavily were you involved with the Curiosity project? Oh right, shut up.
about as heavily as you were
I liked his statement- he said that he appreciates the international help and assistance, but that yes, this was something only America has the resources to do(I dont think we could do it alone). Someone said earlier that we have a certain stubborn determinism :v:
Moving on, they better make a movie of all this. Take all the film from planning to when the reactor dies (:saddowns:) and put it together in a giant movie
shut the fuck up no one CARES.

Heyy, be as happy as you like about it, hell I'm happy about it. Everyone should be happy about it.
I never said Americans shouldn't be happy about it. :)
about as heavily as you were
That's the point. I think you're starting to understand.
if you think of the olympics, there are plenty of countries involved in the planning and execution of them, but I still think the UK has every right to be proud of hosting the 2012 games.
just like the US can be proud of landing a damn robot on mars
That's the point. I think you're starting to understand.
hey be quiet
we put a robot on MARS
