Well, not exactly "high quality".
Certainly higher, but don't expect any desktop wallpapers just yet :v:
Clear lens caps are actually a genius idea.

Especially when the camera is on another planet and you can't exactly remove them manually.

I use a clear filter on my own camera lens as protection actually.
It's brilliant.

But yes, as you say, especially when the camera is on another planet and you can't exactly remove them manually. :v:

yeah I was just editing my post after hearing that it will be a few passes before they can receive a 10 times higher transmission rate
Will update the original post with a detailed timeline when I get home from work.
I wonder if I can see Mars tomorrow night from here (forecast says it'll be clear skies)
Now to watch Blues for a Red Planet to celebrate then go to bed.
Pictures are out!

Maybe we will get to see some of that 720p video tomorrow? I guess that's when Curiosity deploys its antenna and will not require Odyssey to transmit.

I don't think we'll get video that soon.

Is there anywhere I can watch a recording of the stream starting just before entry?
so when are we getting the 7 minutes of terror footage? i thought they said they were going to film it
Here's a video of the stream from entry through landing for anyone else who missed it:

Absolutely cannot wait until we get the first full colour pictures from the surface. This is such an incredible day.

Thankyou so much for this!
I fell asleep at 4.30GMT (started at 5.30GMT). I set my alarm so that I could wake up after catching an hour's sleep and watch it, but I slept through the alarm. Pfft

I just watched the video, and even then I felt like I was having a heart attack even though I knew the conclusion. Wow.
+1 for humanity! I tried to explain this to my parents and I just couldn't word how momentous this actually is, how can I actually word this?
Did I over-do the original post?

Well as it was near mars the data transfer rate was 2000 bits/second which is around 0.25 kilobytes/second
Its going to take a while to transfer 720p video.

It's also going to take a while to power up everything and get the mast ready and checked out.
