Where do you guys find these images?
Dunno about the ones they posted now, I haven't seen them anywhere else, but quite a few pop up here: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/msl/multimedia/gallery-indexEvents.html

Straight frow the rover. The majority of them are thumbnails though.

Does the rover send the pictures as .jpg? It would be understandable, but the compression is awful.
I just realized my name is now on Mars.
Your name is Curiosity?
Your name is Curiosity?
No, my name is etched on a microchip that's on Curiosity.

Not really sure about that, I assume so when they say it's a raw image.
By the way I sent the mobile link, here's the real one:

Are we going to have to play "Guess LarparNar's name"?
does it have color cameras, when are we getting color pics ?
Later this week, they're still running tests and activating different bits of equipment.

Pretty amazing.
Where did you find the "Oooh, full resolution MARDI photos."
Where did you find the "Oooh, full resolution MARDI photos."
Well the guy in the stream said they were coming.
It's only that photo for now, found it here: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/msl/multimedia/gallery-indexEvents.html
More will come, and they want to redo the animation with the high-res photos.
Does the rover send the pictures as .jpg? It would be understandable, but the compression is awful.
They are taken as .jpg yes, but they aren't compressed as far as I am aware. During one of the Q&A's that question was asked, and the guy who answered it was fully aware of the fact that jpg compression can essentially destroy an image, but if you know anything about .jpgs you would also know that they can still be very high quality. It's just generally thought of as a image destroyer I think because most people compress the hell out of their images with it, for example by saving it in mspaint (The old one)
If you are looking at the thumbnails on the page in the thumbnail of the thumbnail form, the thumbnail of the thumbnail is actually scaled up due to how their webpage is set up, so it looks bad. If you click on the thumbnail to bring you to the full size of the thumbnail you will see the actual image is smaller.

Since i dont know how to post videos that are not from youtube
Here is a video taken when the curiosity dropped the heat shield

They should've landed the skycrane :(
They should've landed the skycrane :(
Why?
It's not like we will get to Mars with humans anytime soon, and even then the load with that thing on would be waaay too big for return.
Why the latest news ustream video isnt recorded?

Doesn't need to be anytime soon, leave it for the future generations.
It would be neat if the sky crane had enough fuel so that it could launch itself into an geocentric orbit over the rover so that it could act as a satellite and constantly stream data to MRO or Odyssey. It would be even cooler if it had enough fuel that it could land again (and somehow be resistant of the re-entry heat) and pick up the rover once the rover ran out of energy. Then fly it back to earth orbit so that it could be picked up by a Shuttle like vehicle and brought to the surface.

Well.
It would also be awesome if it could first terraform Mars, then teleport us to the surface. :v:

Was there a thread on Facepunch last year about this? I can't remember if there was or not.

Dunno, I believe we talked about it in some thread though, might have been the Space Thread or the KSP thread.
