I will, thanks for the heads up.
Maybe I can give him some treats as well... Like some cookies on the day before Christmas break?
I always thank the bus driver and wish him a nice day, everyone who doesn't is an asshole who never had a job where he/she had to work with people.
I'll start saying thanks when the tickets are not ridiculously priced
I usually smile and nod my head as I leave
I say thanks and my school is only 20 minutes away. Most people do.
I always say cheers when I get off even if they've been an asshole, though with some of the people that get on I can see why they'd get pissed.
When I took the bus to school and back home I'd always talk to the bus drivers, they were always pretty cool guys to have a conversation with and it kept us busy for the 1 hour ride.
It's a paramedic's job to save my ass when I'm dying and when he does you bet your ass that I'm gonna' say thank you.
thing is a paramedic provides a service i could not provide myself because i lack the skills and training to do so. people who work in the food industry and people who drive vehicles from A to B provide a service I can do myself because they're basically human worker cattle, so they don't deserve my gratitude. I'd tip a pilot or a train driver if I could!
I hated my bus drivers.
Then i got a car.
But i feel like OP's right, its only right to say thanks.
I say in the deepest voice possible
"cheers mate, see you around" and we exchange a manly nod.
if they give me my food for free sure i'll tip
This reminds me of this:

My busdriver is a fucking douche.
He yells at little kids for simple things like looking behind them.
He also yells everything. He loves being mean.
but I always say thanks, I respect him.
I always do, unless they are grumpy.

also forgot to mention
He yells "Get off the bus" when I say thanks. :saddowns:
anyone who works in retail or fast food has made bad life choices
You should also thank your sub when you have sex with her you know.
It depends on accents really, that's the "proper" way of saying it.
Theres a proper way? Are you saying my accent isn't proper?
...or a train driver if I could!
Engineer :eng101:
But with all of firerain's posts, I agree with him (thats a bit astonishing on my behalf). As a chicago native, the CTA bus drivers get a fair wage ($15/hr IIRC) for driving up and down a fucking street. They get a brake every 1 1/2 trips. NOT BAD, RIGHT?
Why should I say thank you, for such a simple job. Without them doing something fucking amazing. They're not doing a service for me, infact I think they drive like fucking idiots. They'll slam on the brakes once the light hits yellow and they're 5 feet away from the line. Now I have to sit for 4 minutes because you thought that was needed? No.
They're not being friendly for me, infact they're all pissed off. not my fault you're a fucking bus driver.
I'll say thank you, if that bus plowed through 40 cars, crossed over a 4 lane highway without even stopping and got me to my destination on time. Other than that, I'm paying YOU. I am paying $2 for a fucking bus ride, and I don't need to give these guys anything else. They disservice me most of the time, so no thanks for them, that is meaningful.
I don't say "Thank you" when I pay for a hooker.
anyone who works in retail or fast food has made bad life choices
I work in retail, I use as a way to fund myself through college and Uni, where I'm getting a creative writing degree, and will become a journalist/author.
I don't think that working in retail or fast food as a student is a deplorable thing at all
Creative writing degree
bad life choices
Theres a proper way? Are you saying my accent isn't proper?

:airquote:
bad life choices
not really, I want to become a journalist, that's pretty much a direct route to journalism. The actual journalism course itself is frowned upon as opposed to creative writing
anyone who works in retail or fast food has made bad life choices
Or is doing it for a summer job.
I say thanks to the bus driver most days, not many people do though.
anyone who works in retail or fast food has made bad life choices
or maybe they could be working part time while they are still in education
Why? It's their job.
It's their job to drive the bus, not to deal with punks in the back causing a ruckus
I always treat people the way I'd like to be treated. I always thank people, and I always tap people money if they ask (including strangers). If I was ever in a position where I desparately needed 50p for a phone call I'd hope someone would help me.
I like bus drivers. They are nice people.
Except one time two of our bus drivers for my school got fired because they switched turns driving on a field trip....
....while the bus was on the highway.
This shouldn't even apply to only bus drivers. Anyone that provides a service deserves a thanks every once and awhile.
It's their job to drive the bus, not to deal with punks in the back causing a ruckus
I don't receive a thank you for where I work.
My job is to provide level 3 technical support.
not deal with the user crying because they can't find their emails.
But I deal with it anyways.
Our buses are beautiful
