its common courtesy
its nothing about paying for services, its just polite.
put it this way, the bus driver opens the door to the bus, so therefore thanks are in order. faggot non-thankers.
TTC bus drivers are assholes and dont deserve my respect
I actually kind of agree with firerain, if you don't like the job, there's the door.
But if someone is depending on this job to make it through life because they have no other skill available, then you might as well say thank you.
my city has a really large public transport system.
Most drivers are assholes, it depends if they're nice or not.
Take today for instance, i was on the bus and as the driver pulled away from the curb a guy in a white sedan almost hit him and he angrily yelled at him from afar. The guy in the white sedan was driving his, i guess, wife to the next bus stop so she could catch the very bus he almost hit. The driver saw the old wife get out of the car by the next stop. The bus driver, when he stopped at that stop to pick people up said, and i quote this loosely:
"I'm not letting you on my bus, tell your asshole husband to learn how to fucking drive, he almost caused an accident back there. I'm not letting you on here, you can wait for the next one"
While i admit they put up with a lot of shit, i don't always thank them. I only thank nice drivers.
and before you start complaining how i should thank them because they put up with this shit getting meager minimum wage: The average bus driver in my city makes about 50,000 a year and have incredibly good benefits thanks to their union. They can go jump off a bridge, break everything in their body, and their benefits would cover it.

lol if facepunch is your life you've made a bad life choice
-snip-
I never thank bus driver. Why should I? All they do is rip me off. I mean really, 2.50$ for a ride.
Can't wait to get a car.
It's their job, it's not like they're giving me a free ride or something. I have no reason to thank them for anything.
No thanks, bus drivers close the door on me.

It's not like they're the ones choosing how much it costs.
I just say cheers am I a bad person?
Hey me too, thought i was the only one.
I thank people for tons of stuff. I onced thanked a stranger for throwing away their trash. If simple words like that can make people feel good, i think we should say em all the time.
In my city people hardly say thank you to bus drivers.. I do it sometimes o.O;
When the drivers go on strike in the middle of winter and they're spearheaded by this asshole you're not going to be thanking them for shit for a very long time.

Dumb.
There are several different bus services around the country, alot of them use different buses.
Why? It's their job.
I agree who cares if they go out of our way to make life more practical and safe for everyone
Fuck the police, they don't deserve my thanks, neither do marines, neither do doctors
It's their JOB afterall
It's not uncommon to see people say bye/thanks or wave at the busdriver when getting off the bus where I live.
I just say "Bye".
It's not like they're the ones choosing how much it costs.
Doesn't mean I should thank them for doing their job.
Too bad this level of politeness can't be applied over here at Buenos Aires... bus drivers are among THE WORST drivers to roam the streets, and they treat people like shit, so it doesn't come as a surprise that the last thing that crosses my mind when getting off a bus is saying "Thanks, man!" :/
Doesn't mean I should thank them for doing their job.
They don't have to work that job, and that doesn't mean you shouldn't give them respect for making your life easier
You're such an angsty bastard
[editline]04:40PM[/editline]
Fuck you teacher you don't deserve my thanks
[editline]04:40PM[/editline]
Fuck you police officer, you definitely don't deserve my thanks you low paid job-doer
Doesn't mean I should thank them for doing their job.
Why not? It makes the drivers day a tiny bit better knowing that people appreciate what he's doing, even if he has to anyway. And it takes like a whole 2 seconds to say "thanks", why not say it?
Our buses are beautiful

That's because you haven't seen ours... we ride on Mercedes-Benz buses (thanks a lot, Fangio!) :smug:

And they're even cooler at night:

I have to say though, the neon glow from underneath the chassis is way too Ricer for my taste... no wonder they're always hooning like 18 year olds :/
I've only seen like 3 people do this on a 3 hour bus ride, so thank your bus driver if you take the bus.
These guys spent half their day driving you around for 2.25$ (in america, not sure about Europe) so the least you could do is thank him when you get out. He/she even has to handle road rage, smells, and a shit ton other stuff.
Just say THANK YOU, it's not that hard. Look, I'll help you out.
Here's how to say it, SAY IT WITH ME NOW : THANK YOU (THANGK YOO)
Still not sure how to say it? I've got you covered with AUDIO HELP!
It doesn't even have to be straight to his face, just say it as you leave.
Not only does it make the bus driver feel good but it makes you look like less of an ass.
The MTA is pretty fucky as it is and they're like Hitler when it comes to schedules and shit.
So don't be an ass :h:
They get paid way more than 2.25 hourly, you pay that every time you get on. That's entirely irrelevant to how much they get paid.
I believe that people do their jobs, because that's their job. They get paid for it, and so on.
It's not like people who clean our sewers get thank you's, or construction workers, or dentists get thanked.
I don't know it just seems like flawed logic to feel guilty for not saying thank you to a bus driver.

But is it that hard to? Does it make that bus driver feel better?
I have a feeling that some FP'ers need to take a look at this.

There's a difference between a job and career. I highly doubt that anyone would want their career to be bus driver for 50 years.
You say thanks to marines because they keep you safe and protect you from invasion/ national threats. Bus drivers drive you from point a to point b for almost 3 bucks. Which is actually expensive.

Once again, they actually make a difference, bus drivers just provide a luxury.
Also: Holy shit, over 2k posts in just 3 months, do you even know what the outside world is?
I'm like best buds with my bus driver. I'm the snitch of the bus. :v:
If you couldn't find meaningful employment as a student then you made bad life choices
Firerain, as an 11th grader still in school, would you say working as a food runner at a fancy restaurant is a bad life choice? If so, then what would you have recommended as a better job?
thing is a paramedic provides a service i could not provide myself because i lack the skills and training to do so. people who work in the food industry and people who drive vehicles from A to B provide a service I can do myself because they're basically human worker cattle, so they don't deserve my gratitude. I'd tip a pilot or a train driver if I could!
but if you're riding a bus then most likely you're either doing it because you can't drive or your car broke down or something
