I actually chat with bus drivers.
mingling with the lower classes? why, a three-suited knave!
I always do.
A friend of mine who drives the bus said that bus drivers themselves don't like it when people even look at them because they just want to get their job done and not get hounded by all you ugly children saying "thank u" as you leap off the bus.

I think I like that guy.
thing is a paramedic provides a service i could not provide myself because i lack the skills and training to do so. people who work in the food industry and people who drive vehicles from A to B provide a service I can do myself because they're basically human worker cattle, so they don't deserve my gratitude. I'd tip a pilot or a train driver if I could!
I can't fucking drive, so by your logic I need to thank the bus driver anyway. Why are you trolling on the thread anyway man? This was supposed to be a nice one. :sigh:
I thank bus drivers because they're people too. It doesn't matter that that's their job. It's probably a shitty job and they most likely don't enjoy hauling people around like cattle.
i thank bus drivers when i get off. it's the polite thing to do.
I sometimes do this without realising
I say thanks and hello to my bus drivers on the way and back from school.
They all recognise me and drop me off and pick me up outside my house, which is along the route. They'll wait for me if I'm a bit late and I have a joke with quite a few of them.
Thai bus drivers are shit.
Last week a passenger was complaining about the driver failing to park correctly, and all of a sudden the driver took out a knife and stuck it on the console.
When I went to England in a schooltrip, we were actually forced to say 'thank you'. He drove us all the way from the center of The Netherlands, to a place in France called 'Calais' or something, then went with the boat to the place, either in or very close to, Dover and from there he drove us to Canterbury. The next day he drove us to London and back, and after a few days, we went back again, so from calais to center of The Netherlands.
I suppose he deserved a bit more than a 'thank you' and a paycheck, but he pretty much was acting like a dick

I always greet and say thanks to bus drivers, we pay $3.00 here.We have some drivers who are not very social and will just mumble everything but when they talk to their driver friends on the radio they get all happy.
I sometimes smile and wave to the driver. Or just a simple nod.
But i don't see why i should thank a bus driver while i don't thank any other professional person that helps me with their job.
You have to be consistent.
I also thank the train conductors sometimes. But it takes quite a bit for me to actually thank people for simple stuff.
I think Mr. Pink in Reservior Dogs got it right when he says the following about tipping:
I don't tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I'll give them something a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, it's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job.
Just replace tipping with thanking.
The fare is irrelevant; it has nothing to do with the wage. Some places have lower fares but higher subsidy.
$2.25? Isn't minimum wage around $5-8 depending on the state?

It does if the Bus Driver is self-employed
I thank bus drivers. I mean, I say "Thanks" or"Cheers". By the way, here, "Cheers" equates exactly to "Thanks".
From some comments in the thread, it seems that in some places it's more akin to just saying "bye".
Yep I get in the bus every morning and they get beat up almost every day.
Might be taking it a bit too literally.

still rated funny though.
Wage slaves. That sounds right. :smug:
I make like 15 an hour. So it's not really horrible.
Where I come from nearly everybody says thank you, so the bus driver just ignores you when you say it. But sometimes they are nice and smile at me :downs:
I always say good morning/Bye to my bus driver.
Fuck yeah, polite.
It does if the Bus Driver is self-employed
What kind of bus driver is self-employed? (not rhetorical, I'm actually curious... I've never heard of that)
I never thank bus driver. Why should I? All they do is rip me off. I mean really, 2.50$ for a ride.
Can't wait to get a car.
Agreed. I remember when it only cost you a dollar to ride on the bus, and that was for both rides back and forth.
Fuck our city bus drivers make around $25/hr.
Agreed. I remember when it only cost you a dollar to ride on the bus, and that was for both rides back and forth.
Hell of a lot cheaper than using a car to get around.
Me does this.
Can has cookie nao? :V
I dont thank my bussdriver. Im a student so I get to ride for free.
Turning the bus seems hard to, since they are so wide.
