I both love and hate stumbling upon dying/dead forums. Yesterday I was looking for a Final Fantasy IX guide and came to this website: http://www.rpgplace.net/ It's been running since 1998. The majority of the website is dedicated to reviews, walkthroughs, and fanfiction of JRPGs of the time. I just feel a connection with it because it's the kind of place I would've frequented as an early teen.
2012.08.05 - Time to admit I never update this anymore. Content will remain available and I may add more in the future, but real life has taken over everything. Thanks to anyone who has sent me email; I still check it (very inconsistently). I hope you still get use out of what's here already.
That's real dedication. [editline]23rd February 2013[/editline]
The good old days of obnoxious music blaring full volume as soon as you open someones profile or pet page. I should resign up to see what it's like now.
My ex decided to sign into her old Neopets account. You wouldn't believe the amount of interest she had collected since middle school.
I found my first forum posts too. Good lord that font. Notice that the files are .BMP What the hell was I thinking? As for the forum, it's barely active. Roughly 2 posts a week at max as far as I can tell. It's actually really depressing.
What's with that font? Hell, what's wrong with the emote borders?
My ex decided to sign into her old Neopets account. I played that for a bit and I was fucking raking in cash after a while. Too bad I set in a fake birthday and now I can't remember the one I put in to check on my bank :\ I even had one of those once a year shark things as well.
Am I the only one who feels that social networks made a lot of websites die? I don't really know, tbh. I first used the internet at the age of 7 on an old dialup modem and IBM PC with Windows 98. This was about the same time we got cable TV. (First few years of my life were in real poverty, as in "having no supper because we ran out of food" poverty). The only site I remember was this one, which wait a minute, it's still online. But dammit that background burns my eyes.
My first forum doesn't exist anymore. But I miss that place. So many friendly people :(
"Can you sind me a xfire friend request, I hardly understand this, btw my xfire name is razzums. thanks." 2006 "How do I flip.. for instance a person.. how would i flip him to face the other way? with out drawing him again?" - 2006 Thats the only archives of my posts I can find. I wish I could read my 2005 posts on facepunch.
I used to post a lot on the LucasArts forums. I was an annoying little shit. Nowadays the forum is dead but the mods are still policing it with an iron fist. Pretty much any posting is met with scorn.
oh jeez, first forum I ever joined was some pixel art/sprite ripping forum called Pixeltendo back in like ~2004. Pretty sure it still exists in some iteration but it's totally not the same place anymore. I remember using wayback machine to try and find some of my old, old posts but it wasn't a very fruitful search
I remember when Addictinggames was fun. Same with Newgrounds.
I remember when Funnyjunk was actually a funny picture site to go to.
I too have fond memories of the old funnyjunk but compared to today's standards of good content, the old funnyjunk was pretty awful.
New funnyjunk is pretty awful.
I remember the glory days of Newgrounds and discovering flash movies with Legendary Frog, John and Richie, VGDC, and Super Flash Bros. And Xfire! Back in the day, that was the only way I could keep up with people I met on Halo Custom Edition. I used it regularly too until Steam implemented friends/chat and stuff, and finally when Steam kept recorded hours I finally uninstalled Xfire for good. Shit, man... I got into CE and Xfire eight years ago. Time really passes you by, doesn't it? I think I'm going to go look at my profile once more to see my final hour counts on there.
I remember stick-page. You could sit and stare and black stickfigures fighting all day long.
http://econc10.bu.edu/OK_Economics.htm Some things never change.
Anyone here ever go to gametalk?
I remember when Addictinggames was fun. Same with Newgrounds.
or miniclip?
Miniclip was the shit I still visit Newgrounds from time to time, really active place
I made this forum in 2007 with a few friends, it was fun while it lasted... http://avatopia.proboards.com/index.cgi Most users online was 69, Jan 7, 2013, 10:04am Well that's weird :v:
http://econc10.bu.edu/OK_Economics.htm Some things never change.
It's like a time capsule!
http://econc10.bu.edu/OK_Economics.htm Some things never change.
That place hurts my eyes.
I remember my first forum in 2008, Gmod Nation. It's gone now but I'm sure a lot of my posts were shit. At least a large number of the active members moved onto facepunch so I get a little warm feeling in my heart when I run into them (quacles, mutank, furbrain, and savage messiah, although I haven't seen him since it shut down)
I remember the days of using windows XP on the weekends creating pivot animation cartoons then putting it into windows movie maker, sending them off to youtube and being happy i had the ability to create something even though it was dog shit then playing runescape whilst running limewire and windows media player, not having to care about life problems, those times were good but im kinda happy everything is evolving, even though sometimes i wish things could go back to the way they were
Used to hang around gamingw (now saltw) back in 2004. Then I got banned for flaming because a moderator said my shitty pacman clone was bad (it was). I pop by now and then to say hi.
I recently found my first forum post on the Internet, ever - April 2005, means I was 10 at the time: I remember making that avatar myself. I was so proud. :suicide: [editline]22nd February 2013[/editline] Oh, here's another one!
My 12 year old borther is posting the exact same kind of stuff now on Raptr. Made me D'aaw. My first post ever on the internet dates back to when I was 15, on a gaming community about Oblivion, in a funny bugs thread, talking about how once, as I hit a goblin, it skyrocketed away. [editline]23rd February 2013[/editline]
I remember stick-page. You could sit and stare and black stickfigures fighting all day long.
Oh my, the memories. The Castle series. I thought that was the best shit ever back then.
I remember stick-page. You could sit and stare and black stickfigures fighting all day long.
That place is still going strong. Hasn't changed much, either. Anyone ever spend ages watching and re-watching the Xiao Xiao series? Still bummed he never continued it.
I went on a forum on the UK version of Nintendo's website, which shut down due to security issues in 2007. It was totally unmoderated with frequent flame wars. My first forum and my most dear to me despite it's issues. Anyway have this, http://www2.warnerbros.com/spacejam/movie/jam.htm. The original Space Jam website, preserved since 1996.
glitchcity.info (which still kind of exists) Was the first forum I can remember frequenting, but it's nowhere near as active as it once was, and I only recognise a few names. Does toribash still exist? I used to go there a lot too.
Newgrounds was my shit. Started exploring the internet at a VERY young age due to the fact that I was just a little weirdo. Started on Newgrounds in like '00 or '01, looking back now, everything seemed so lo-fi and grungy back then. A lot of the flash animations/games were very dirty, which is where a lot of my humor comes from today. I was never a member on the forum there, but I would spend hours on end watching random videos on Newgrounds, and the same for Albinoblacksheep. Do any of you remember Stickdeath? A babysitter of mine showed me that when I was really young, fucked around on there frequently also. Part of the reason I had taken a huge interest in Flash Animation when I was in 3rd - 7th grade. Same thing with Stickslaughter.
I remember stick-page. You could sit and stare and black stickfigures fighting all day long.
I used to be a huge regular on that forum. I remember signing up to the forum in '02, back then it wasn't even a proper forum, and the few who went were referred to as "Stickpagians". Eventually, it blossomed into a huge forum, and everyone and their mom was animating with either: EZtoon, Flash, Pivot, or some other 3rd party program. If not that, Photoshop, which is where I learned to use it, and to make playdough animations. I stopped going almost two years ago? I'll stop by and post occasionally, but the place lost it's flare. I now visit a very small forum named Outworld made up of a few old Stickpage members who got tired of being there. Does anyone remember a website named Szosa? Had a lot of odd flash animations on it, it's gone now though. <-- fuck that, found it. spelled it wrong too, embarrassing. http://web.archive.org/web/20041205200213/http://zsoa.com/ Does anyone remember Godfart? Had so many good times there.
who can forget this
or miniclip?
oh man miniclip was the shit [editline]23rd February 2013[/editline]
I recently found my first forum post on the Internet, ever - April 2005, means I was 10 at the time:
shit you were learning C++ when you were 10? fucking props to you man
