;39685262']In a dying forum, each thread with a few posters feels like a little fire, a light fading and going out while the rest of the forum is in darkness... Slowly and surely, the last of those lights will go out...
Where the last points of fire that light the night sky burn down to their embers and flicker and die. My fingers go numb in the cold... when the last little spark that's disrupting the dark is the last bit of feeling that's left in my heart.
Man, this thread made me sad. Wonder how long will Facepunch last, but I've got a hunch it'll be a pretty long time.
I used to spend so much time on Newgrounds. And waaay before that cartoonnetwork.com :v:
And waaay before that cartoonnetwork.com :v:
I used to play so many games on CN. There was also Cartoon Orbit.
I remember there was a site for the Halo PC/Xbox Modding community, of course it recently came back but it's not mostly a ghost town with a archive for older files
Ahh the good internet. Where none are in control .. no media filer .. a gateway behind the society and government .. where no one can take your freedom away, oh .. wait.
This is me. Why. [editline]23rd February 2013[/editline] Unrelated but my club penguin account under my name (Cowabanga) still works and it's a 2006 or a 2007 account.
Oh the days of playing wulfram II with the guys. Im not really in contact with any of them anymore, and the site is just... Gone. Nothing left, its over. The dev posted a basic html page recently trying to revive it, but no, its gone now. I miss that game, it was fucking badass. Anyways the site is just dead and gone now, all my squad's history and all that, and my own site i made for it vanished into the ether aswell. Anyone remember a group who hosted modded HL2:DM servers called phoneburnia?
Does anybody remember Detstar.com? It was one of the best gaming websites back in the day. It had so much content about Super Smash Bros. Melee, Goldeneye 007, F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and others. It ran from 2002 to January 2008, at which point it mysteriously went down and never returned. (There's a rumor that the webmaster, Deterest, died of stomach ulcers, which is sad. The rumor wasn't confirmed, but nobody's heard from him, and he hasn't been on his deviantART account since the site went down.) Man, I miss that site. I remember finding it when I was looking up stuff for Super Smash Bros. Melee in elementary school. That site had so much cool content. From rumors to strategies to funny pictures to a comprehensive guide on the infamous Debug Menu, it was the best. I still read through it with Wayback Machine from time to time, but I'm afraid that even those archives will someday disappear. Is there a way to mirror/download a copy of the website archive? I just noticed that the site had a section for AIM icons. *sniff* I never realized how old it was.
Abandoned websites, particularly forums, have always mystified me. It's like finding a lost city, you can't help but wonder what caused the community to leave it behind.
Their admin Larry probably banned everyone.
I'm not sure if anyone here was AVP2 game fans but I remember everyone who was visited the famous site avpnation.com http://web.archive.org/web/20030205203810/http://www.avpnation.com/main.asp I remember the hype for first AVP movie.
First forum I visited was already pretty dead when I arrived there. German Vivendi Universal Games forum. But I really enjoyed the little forum family that cared for each other there. Never found something quite like it again. I'm still in sporadic contact with one of the guys there, but I've never heard anything from the others. But I'm keeping my ancient silly nickname anyway, just in case they're still lurking somewhere and remember me.
Man, this thread made me sad. Wonder how long will Facepunch last, but I've got a hunch it'll be a pretty long time.
Someday in the future, when facepunch is long dead, [SUP][SUP][SUP][SUP][SUP][SUP][SUP][SUP][SUP][SUP]due to Garry leaving the site deprecated HINT HINT[/SUP][/SUP][/SUP][/SUP][/SUP][/SUP][/SUP][/SUP][/SUP][/SUP] we're probably gonna suddenly come across the entirely broken homepage, filled with broken images and javascript errors, click on the ticker and just follow it along. #deepmemories
I remember making my first website with Geocities. God that was fun
http://www.weburg.com/forum/ Old Simcity board Magnasanti was born there Look at all the spam
I remember there being other types of facepunch, like one similar to this but the posts were from a long time ago. Therer was a lot of different ones that I remember
fakepunch?
I used to use the internet mainly for flash games on Newgrounds, which took forever on dial-up. I found my first forum post from when I was 13: and no I never did ask her out I have a Facepunch account from September 2005 as well (roly2828) but I never posted on it
It'll happen here some day probably, and everywhere else
I guess most things seems greater in retrospect because you remember the good times, but as always, times move on and stuff evolves. I remember playing Neocron and Counter-Strike 1,5 back in the early 2000's, sometimes I miss those days, but there is no time to live in your old memories.
It'll happen here some day probably, and everywhere else
All good things must come to an end.
Thread music: Can't even imagine where my first forum posts were made. Gamefaqs perhaps?
All good things must come to an end.
this isnt artistic wtf i thought this was a known phrase
I find it surprising that this forum hasn't become a ruin, 7+ years is a lot for a forum that was based on a hl2 mod. Do people really still buy/play Garry's mod?
^ FP isn't particularly a gmod orientated forum anymore as you can see so I guess this is why it's still alive
yeah, that is true. It is neat that this forum has been able to transcend gmod discussion and become a general board. This place was definitely different back in 05.
I used to frequent a forums back in 2006 that started in '04 as an animation portal for Pivot animations. And it's still alive!
I remember spending all of my time when I was a little kid playing games from wonka.com or something similar. They were all really simple games like 3D maze or breakout but I still had a ton of fun playing them. I just checked and apparently all of them have been deleted in 2008.
Oh and I used to be part of a forum back in 2009 when I finally quit it in early 2012-ish because it died, posting wise.
