I remember visiting the Exite Mod forums quite a lot. There must have only been a dozen people there but it was strangely active. One day the creator of the mod stopped posting and was never heard from again. [editline]23rd February 2013[/editline] Here he is. http://www.moddb.com/members/thequartz
The only thing I really remember was a Forum I used to frequent that went under while I was still active on it (I'm not 100% sure what the site was though); that was years back, so It may either be still dead or resurrected from the grave. Other than that, all the other old sites I used to frequent daily back in the day (such as Animal Crossing Community), still seem to be alive and kicking, dwindling popularity or no.
I remember making really retarded threads when I first joined Facepunch. I was 9 years old, turned 10 the next month. One of them was about a horrible HL2 fan fic I was hoping to develop into a novella or some shit and the main characters, two metrocops, were using AOL speak, .jpeg in place of the word picture, and just overall looked like some trolling chat log. If all the old Facepunch threads weren't gone I'd go get it because it was the first time frasierdog called me an idiot. I miss frasierdog.
There was a forum I would frequent that eventually shut down. I wouldn't be able to tell you the name of it, but there was an obsession with teapots.
Such as this wondrous thing we call life, all good and bad things must come to an end.
I miss all the games that were on jagex.com back when runescape was 2D
Venturing into the ancient internet, the places that nobody visits any longer, finding all those long dead 90s websites...something is fucking creepy about it. Its like exploring the virtual ruins of the aztecs or some shit.

It's kind of crazy to know that I've been on the internet long enough to say for certain that it's moved on since i first was getting started (for both better and worse). My first forum? i signed up for BZPower as a bionicle-obsessed (rightfully) friendless young lad, Propably around 2002-2003 (under a name long lost to time). I don't recall much of that, honestly, but i do recall being banned (having a terrible temper at the time), signing up with a new account and finding out that one gets much more flies with honey than being a dick. This would be the first in a long decade of life lessons that would make me who i am today. First forum i was really active in? GTAForums. I do remember my name there, as i had a terrible username. There i was introduced to the concept of Machinima by such series as 'Powershot' and 'Peds'. This was Circa 2005, and San Andreas is still one of my favorite games of the 6th generation. Even if i didn't really believe the stuff about Bigfoot/whatever, i still read through all the threads just because it was damn good reading. Starmen.net was one of my main haunts around 2008-2010. I'm disappointed that they never finished Tree From My Youth, really. Also, the first PC online Game i played a hell of a lot of was Return to Blockland...based on the old free version of Blockland. Shit was pretty awesome, too. Loved building elaborate-ass worlds. My thread music? This is actually the second forum I've registered on in my entire life. The first was the official Lego message board, and I was pretty much using my older brother's account. I couldn't use any other forum due to parental controls on my mom's mac. I did however used to lurk the Blockland forums a lot since it wasn't blocked on the computer for whatever reason. I remember the first time I was on the forums, the drama section legitimately made me depressed and such. I can't really blame my younger self since it was the first time I was revealed to the darker side of the internet.
fuck this i'm logging into club penguin again huh reminds me of some hat collection game what i just said "fuck you"
One of my first was schoolofduel, a website dedicated to Yugioh. It also had forums for roleplaying which I regularly took part it. Oh yeah, one of the moderaters, mpz I think his name was, posted that a girl he was dating over the forums for 3+ years? Turned out to be a guy. Got pretty heated. I tried to look for it again a year or so ago. The last update was in 2005. I tried looking for it again a few months ago. Wasn't even there anymore. :( Thread music:

Bionicle forums, strangely populated with grown men which only just dawned on me.

It's since been lost.
The first forum I actually joined was back in 2010. It unfortunately came really close to shutting down in 2011 due to a CP incident, but a week later (on May 1st specifically), its only admin shut it down due to something else that happened off the site completely and gave only two weeks to get contacts established. I still have a small archive of it laying somewhere. That forum (briefly) survived in a derivative hosted by one of the regulars there (who also happens to browse this forum). I also managed to grab a small-ish archive of that forum right before it was going to switch to SMF, but I never finished it. That forum met its fate sometime later that year or early in 2012, due to a funding shortfall. Most of those two forums' members have either moved on to either of two forums (one of them being a forum for a popular-ish Minecraft grief team), or here. [editline]23rd February 2013[/editline] If I were to include just lurking, I had actually lurked on two more forums but never joined or wasn't very active on them. Those two forums are still up, but most of the posts I saw during then have probably since been pruned for various reasons.
I used to go on this. I went on it recently and the community is still terrible.

I remember when Shockwave was still a thing and if you wanted to play any sort of flash game you'd have to set it off loading and come back in like half an hour because of slow download speeds. I know that I used to browse the internet long before I even went to school but I only really found out about the social side of it when I was about 7 years old. Joined some forum about some shitty online trading card game and used to literally just talk about the game. I have memories of playing some online Pokemon game called TPPCRPG (and talking on the forums for hours there!). Good times!
I haven't been around on the net long enough to have seen any sites go down. There's probably a lot of sites and forums out there that I just don't even remember joining, I used to go by the name "mage357" so I may have accounts under that name. I remember back when I was about 6/7 I used to go on the cartoon network site and play the teen titans flash games. I went back there recently and one of them is still there, you play as beast boy and transform between him, a bird an a leopard. So many hours spent on dial up playing on it. My first forum was probably the serebii.net forums, even though it was only 2 or 3 years ago when I joined, it's nice to go back and see familiar usernames.
Facepunch got lucky in that a lot of the forum isn't soley dedicated to Garrysmod. Any site that is dedicated to just their subject will sooner or later just be completley abandoned. Bodybuilding.com and facepunch both probably get more than half their views from their "Misc" and "General Discussions" forums.
The people who frequented those sites are still around, just doing other things. Think about the awesomeness to come, not just the awesomeness of the past.
Case and point Bodybuilding.com- Misc-56,178,654 posts Second most popular forum Teen Bodybuilding(Which include TMISC)-7,481,595 posts The other parts of the forum all have at or less than a million posts.
God I remember things like Neopets and Club Penguin. God it brings a tear to my eye.
this thread made me look up some of my old forum posts uhm
Used to spend all of my time on the internet on the Bethesda forums, talking about Morrowind and Oblivions and the likes. Then it got flooded with nothing but blind fanboys. Before that, it was a lot of Newgrounds, GamesOfGondor (what is now known as Armor Games), and gprime.
Facepunch was my first real forum, before that I just kinda drifted around youtube/ED/4chan while playing Halo Custom Edition almost nonstop. (06-07, my original FP account is from March 07) Before that though, we had a computer that couldn't run games very well other than 3D Pinball. I went to Stick Figure Death Theater/Dead Stick Nickelodeon and played quite a bit of those cheesy macromedia shockwave games on the Nickelodeon (channel) site. Not the ones associated with any shows, but stuff like "Stubbed Toe Translator" and "Foggy Window Van-Gogh", etc. Very fond memories :v:
god this forum made me look up some of my old posts, but that was back when i used the name Kano71. What i failed to realize was that I took that name from my dad, so basically there are 2 kano71s out there, me and him. Looking at some of his forum posts, his posts bring up exactly the same points i do thats an interesting thought
