My first forum was called nintendo city. I looked up my first posts and I can berely understand them, holy hell.
the first forum i ever posted in has long since slipped from my memory if anyone remembers a forum where it featured a comic with characters drawn similar to cyanide and happiness and some guy made a popular thread showcasing a nintendo ds dock constructed of legos, that's the one i'm thinking of i was also banned because too many people complained about me lol
http://pixelized.forgiven5.com/forums/ well. i found it. it's dead. :c

I'm 27 and have had a presence on the net and been a bit of a geek since as far back as I can remember. I remember the days of creating Quake 1 mods and taking part in tournaments in 1998 - 2000. There was this one website I always used to go to to read about the best/latest Quake 1 & 2 mods and news and I think it was called BluesNews or something along those lines (It's been a loong long time!). I started making models and textures for Quake engine mods in 2002 - 2003. Then in 2003/4 we had a mini resurgence of VR when Second Life started up and started to become 'the next big thing'. The best experiences I've ever had online/with computers was between the years 2004 - 2009 in Second Life. Made plenty of money and even made a living for a number of years. It's become a bit bland now and much more money and business orientated. It's "grown up" and become quite boring although if you fly around the mainland you can see abandoned places once filled with avatars & happiness but now just left abandoned. It's quite sad as we seem to be what I like to call the between time. I believe Oculus Rift will be the next big thing, and it won't be long before either Second Life itself or something similar to the virtual world from the novel Snow Crash will pop up.
Xfire and Halo CE was the shit, I'd just have endless fun trying out all of my new maps I downloaded at 150 kb/s I still have a music video I made in 2007 when the metroid map just came out.

Bebo... My profile was full of embarrassing emo stuff. And for my first msn account when I was 10ish my profile picture was text saying "hahaha I smell a n***er", I didn't know what it meant back then.
This place isn't really a ruin but it has very very old stuff inside there from when I was in high school. I found the website completely by accident one day and I couldn't stop playing with the gadgets on there. Most of the stuff on that site is SO old. The url was just a pattern that I guessed, it got corrected from .com ertdfgcvb.ch Scroll to the bottom and click 'older', those are the things I am talking about. Dating back to 2001! It's full of fun little things to mess about with.
I looked back at my old Gamefaqs account I made in 2005, something like 2040 karma or an "Ancient" rating on their boards. 8 year old account, wow.
I looked back at my old Gamefaqs account I made in 2005, something like 2040 karma or an "Ancient" rating on their boards. 8 year old account, wow.
As I mentioned before... 11 year old account.
As I mentioned before... 11 year old account.
Yeah Gamefaqs is really old, turns 18 later this year; I'm surprised it's still going strong.
Those old text guides are still some of the best sources of information for older games, some were really well written.
I found my old Gamespot account. I made one video guide, that was just text. No way of understanding it.
;39713477']Those old text guides are still some of the best sources of information for older games, some were really well written.
And don't forget those really well made ASCII titles
Look at the Sourceforts forums.
I remember my first forum. It all started in like 4th grade when a friend of mine told me about a website where you can download free Mario fan games. (The place is still actually active, MFGG.) This was way back in around 2006, after a year or so we both joined the forums. Back then the forum URL was like http://mfgg.taloncrossing.com or something along those lines. That old version of the forum was shut down and archived. Out came a newer forum with newer software. Dubbed MFGGv3 if I remember correctly. Shit hit the fan and it got shut down as well with no backup in sight. The community portion of the forums split off into their own site and the fangaming portion remained. The place has had quite a history for being a site dedicated to Mario fangaming. The newest incarnation of the forum garners around 10-20 active members logging on a day. Even I still hang out around the site, it has been a part of me since I was little. It is a small community, pretty much everyone that still posts knows of each other, and well I kind of like that. Why? Well, most of the current members are around my age back when I first joined the site myself. I dunno, I guess if I had to put it into words, my childhood Internet experience still lives within the site now. I can relate so much to the current memberbase. It is just a wonderful feeling seeing my oldest Internet memories seeming playing back before myself in the forum of other, young members.

I never had a forum before facepunch, well I guess I could say that the Bungie.net forums were my first ones. I still get on my old profile here and there and see what's up. http://halo.bungie.net/Account/Profile.aspx?memberID=3329463 ^That's me.
[SUP][/SUP] I found this little gold nugget, back when I thought trolling was ~cool~, I don't think I have ever made so much crap in my life, and I managed to put it in one post :suicide: [sp]I got unbanned though![/sp]
[editline]25th February 2013[/editline] Not too old, still digging up old shit. [editline]25th February 2013[/editline] I only played neopets for like 20 minutes. :v: [editline]25th February 2013[/editline] Kingdom of Loathing.
And don't forget those really well made ASCII titles
Those are how I discovered Goldeneye Gameshark editing and manipulation. Those were excellent times. I have three Gamesharks, each filled with hundreds of extra level codes, modifiers, skin replacements and weapon sets.
I was 12 when I first signed up for facepunch, but before facepunch there was rollercoaster tycoon http://rctgrotto.coastergrotto.com/ I signed up for "rcttown.com" when I was 10, because I wanted to use a trainer I think. I wish I could embarrass myself with some of those posts.
[editline]25th February 2013[/editline] Kingdom of Loathing.
I still play it. ___ Yesterday, I looked up several YouTube channels I used to check out a lot for Lego how to build videos. only one still exists that still uploads videos.
I feel crippled with nostalgia
(I've found this music works wonderfully for the topic at hand.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDJzf5jqccw God, it's eerie going to dead forums, especially when you can see that the death wasn't sudden. The creepy thing is you can see that the users know it as well, although they handle the realization differently; some see the writing on the wall and simply abandon ship while mourning the loss, while others go on purposefully ignoring what's happening to a place they once saw as a warm little community. Then there are others that cry out about what's happening to the site; they ask for people to post more, invite friends, one forum I remember visiting a while ago had a guy that was constantly making new threads, hoping the amount of things to comment on would spur more posting. In the end, these forums might go on for a few more pitiful months before expiring. But even at death, the forums aren't always forgotten. Sometimes you aren't alone. Once in a while you'll come across a supposedly dead forum, but notice that you need to sign up to see all the content, so you'll make up a throwaway E-Mail and get to work; imagine your surprise when you see someone besides yourself in the "Online Users" header. Most of the time it's just a bit creepy to find this, considering your arrival sometimes makes them get a spark of hope that life is returning to the forum, but sometimes it's more than just creepy. Dead forums are favored rendezvous sites for pedophiles exchanging videos/images, and because of this there's a chance you'll run either into a honeypot (in which case your IP is flagged) or you simply encounter people you really would never want to encounter.

Now the only users still active have names like wser346 and the like
I found some robot wars fan forums from around 2004-5 http://hijamiefans.suddenlaunch.com/index.cgi http://z6.invisionfree.com/FRR/index.php?act=idx There are plenty of other deserted robotics oriented forums out there IIRC but I am having a hell of a time finding them (and not in the good way.) dead websites are depressing
I remember a long time ago when my dad showed me VGDC and I spent hours with my brother watching the videogame sprite videos. Then my older brother showed me Newgrounds, Sickanimation, Homestarrunner... I also played that Cartoon Network "Orbit" thing where you collect digital stickers of characters to put all over your page. I spent all my dad's points on a retired Slade (from Teen Titans) when someone put it up for auction and never paid him back.
somehow i've been on this website for 8 years jesus christ garry
