I guess I was just kinda hoping that this would be a cool PS1 homebrew thing I could mess around with when he releases it eventually. Oh well.
Hey he could still release the game anyways even though it would be on PC. I really hope he does. That's assuming it's not an animation which would suck cause I really want to to play it.

There's no way it's an animation.
It's probably pieced together out of separate versions tho'
It's probably pieced together out of separate versions tho'
He probably changes it and scripts things specifically for each video, it's likely not possible to play as a full game
does it really matter if the game is on ps1? i have only watched the first video because i'm too spooked at the moment about watching the rest, but i don't understand why so much attention is being paid to what system it's being run on.
There's no way it's an animation.
Yeah I don't think so either, I've just seen some people suggest it so I added it. It would be easier to make a game than to animate all of the stuff he's done.

Yeah. I mean it's clearly [sp]fictional, and the author wants it to be presented like a PS1 game. And a lot of effort went into that illusion and it doesn't look half bad either,[/sp] so it's a PS1 game.
Yeah, it looks great, it's obviously not -really- running on a PS1, as it doesn't have the, uh, texture warping (?) to the extent that all PS1 games had
I don't think PS1 homebrew is at a point where you could possibly make a game like this. At least the last time I checked the most advanced non Net Yaroze homebrew game I saw was 2D. And even the size of Net Yaroze games were limited to the system's RAM.
in short I don't even think you make a home brew of this game.
By any means, Petscop is shaping up to be something really interesting.
Here's to the author not giving up like 99% of other ARG GMs, and maybe releasing the game's source at the end. :class:

The platform is greatly documented all around. I'd be very, veeeeeery surprised if there were no 3d homebrews.

all of this was made with Net Yaroze:

while some of it looks awful, there's some pretty cool early 3D games happening in there.

No it's not, No polygon warping plus the Net Yaroze is just not capable of something this complicated.

He was saying the games in that video were made with Net Yaroze and there's plenty of 3d in those.
I wish there was more to the Gift Plane part of the game. Not to say that the Silent Hilly dimension isn't fun to watch, but you rarely get to see creepypastas set in such a bubbly and colorful setting.

And as neat as it is that the game seems to connect to Candace Newmaker and attachment therapy, does anyone else think that it's kinda in bad taste? Especially since the people involved in Candace's death are paroled and can probably be found/contacted.

the people involved were pieces of shit though
This has such an incredible amount of work put into it.
the people involved were pieces of shit though
Yeah that's true, I'm just saying it seems kind of weird to exploit relatively recent tragedies with still-alive victims and villains around for this
I guess it's not too big of a deal though, I'm still subscribing because it's really interesting
He was saying the games in that video were made with Net Yaroze and there's plenty of 3d in those.
to clarify I meant a 3D homebrew game this complex probably wouldn't be able to be made on a Net Yaroze because the size of Net Yaroze games were limited to the PS1's RAM (about 2 or 4 megabytes I think). I believe the more advanced games shown in that Vinny video were Net Yaroze games that got picked up and published on a disk.
As for homebrew games not made on the Net Yaroze, JohnnyOnFlame is right about there being a lot of documentation on PS1 game development but iirc it's bit spotty in some important places and to publish a PS1 game requires specialty PC parts that haven't been made for over a decade. (that might change with stuff like the PSIO existing).
for comparison here's a homebrew game PS1 that wasn't made using a Net Yaroze, if you check this guy's channel you can see he has all the equipment needed to make it:

I mean it's clear Petscop isn't a PS1 game but I thought I would chuck that out there. it's been awhile since I've looked into this stuff so I could be wrong now.
What do you think was in [sp]the black box?[/sp]
Probably something personal
Probably something personal
If I had to guess [sp]it might be a photo dropped in as a sprite. "Right now we can't say why" could mean Paul wants to get more information about it before revealing it.[/sp]
The use of the phrase 'we' is really weird in this context
the way the end is set up makes me believe that paul isn't the uploader

It's possible these videos were recorded beforehand and he is editing and uploading these videos with his friends or something

Well, at the beginning he mentions someone coming back home and playing the game with him and investigating. I think when he says "we" he's referring to himself and that other person. He's used the word "we" a few times since then, inferring that person came home.

I think he said something about the person coming home "next month" and the next episode will have marked a month passing since that episode, so there's a chance we'll see the mystery person in this upcoming week's episode.
This is kinda late but I really love how the cutesy off-tone pickup noise becomes incredibly uncomfortable in the later parts of the game that have dead silence other than the footsteps. I find it creepy, at least.

I'm a pussy when it comes to scary stuff okay?
I really like the analogue aesthetics, brings me back to 2004 and PS2 GTA SA days.
