It was probably a personal picture of Paul or someone more closely related.

His reaction makes it sounds like it's something much worse

Someone on reddit guessed it could be Mike's dead body, just from the grave saying "Mike was a gift" and him opening a gift box...that would be disturbing if true.
I'm thinking the the treadmill and the numbers at the beginning of Petscop 9 correspond to the number of petals on the flower on NLM's head, since there are 16 petals and the number on the treadmill begins at 16. When he first started pulling the petals out of the flower, it ended as a red screen, indicating "Loves me not". The -1 is the lie in the sense that it takes one of the petals away, letting the pulling of the petals end in "Loves me."
You're actually really close. Someone found out that the timing in the demo and the scene where he pulls petals from the flower match up exactly, including the long pause while he went to check on the girl and then came back and pulled the rest.

Really creepy and strange. I love this whole thing.
Apparently, Night Mind did a video on this.

I brightened it so that you can see it.
Isn't it one of those objects your pick up, like the score thing?

And sadly that confirms 100% that this is fake. I mean, most people knew from the beggining, but at least it was plausible back then, which made it more interesting and unnerving. However the creepy vibes now have gone completely meta, as the mistery has gone from the "game" itself to the "ARG" sourrounding it (whatever the uploader's endgame is and what will he be showing next).

I don't really understand. People were wondering what was coming next since it started. And people guessed it was fake from the start, but you can still suspend your disbelief and have fun with it.

I know, it's just harder now I guess.
If you want to cling to it, the game could be recording how you are pulling the petals, saving it on memory card, and then using it for the demo
Holy fucking shit the people on the Petscop subreddit are stupid. A ton of them genuinely believe that Nick from Night Mind is the creator and is shilling the game
Reddit? Circlejerking falsehoods because it's popular? I never!

No the game is haunted I thought this was already established

it was obviously fake from the get-go but that doesnt make it any less interesting
This is kinda boring tbh. I think I've exhausted all my ability to invest interest into things like this after Marble Hornets. I just don't see the appeal in things like this anymore.
It's just vaguely creepy, I'll give it that, but trying to find "clues" when the creator can just throw whatever curve-ball he wants so it negates any investigation people do. He doesn't even properly introduce anything, he just starts playing the game and we all have no idea why he's even showing it in the first place. Is this "found footage"? is this a real-time person uploading whatever intersecting footage he records? Maybe some people find that kinda thing intriguing but its so obviously fake that I have a hard time suspending my belief.

Very first video description states it's a game he found and right at the start he states why he's recording the game.
I don't see how community investigation being negated because the author can do whatever since everything is scripted is a problem, I mean no shit in the end it's all scripted so any sort of investigation is purely for fun.
I don't get where "ARG" came from and why people are trying to find clues and stuff. There's been no puzzles or secrets to solve so far, or even any interaction, it's just a webseries.

Yes there are? Everything is a puzzle, the meaning of all the weird messages and characters, that's all stuff to figure out and solve.
Yes there are? Everything is a puzzle, the meaning of all the weird messages and characters, that's all stuff to figure out and solve.
But in terms of a typical ARG, there's no bigger presence outside of the videos. It's self contained. More creepy-pasta than ARG.
Yes there are? Everything is a puzzle, the meaning of all the weird messages and characters, that's all stuff to figure out and solve.
Our solving it doesn't impact the plot, like a TV show.
It's best to look at it like a show, rather than be bored that there's no way to find the solution yourself :v:. Some people on the subreddit used to be so thirsty for leads that they were tracking down IRL people connected with the Newmaker death and emailing them 'petscop????'. There's even a few dudes trying to plan a visit to a windmill that looks similar to the one in the video. It's just overthinking it. Enjoy the ride.
I just hope this series has some ending and stays fun instead of fizzling out like that sad satan shit did. though real talk I really hope no children or anyone was actually harmed making this little project thoguh
Yes there are? Everything is a puzzle, the meaning of all the weird messages and characters, that's all stuff to figure out and solve.
ARG implies that the game is somehow linked with reality in the form of a website, a location or a irl phone number or something so that players have a way of interacting with the story. Portal 2's ARG had a website, so did the Overwatch one, but nobody has found any such links within the Petscop videos. (NM has predicted we might have to find a website though)
Right now we don't know if the videos are being released on a schedule or as a response to what the subreddit or discord finds. So right now it could very well just be a creepypasta webseries thing.

I'm sure the author will try not to dissapoint the audience by throwing random curveballs. I mean various media have already put faith in it. NM called it one of the best stories since Ben Drowned or something.
While I don't think he's involved at all, he did say he was making something and that his involvement would be a secret and that it would appear on his channel like any other subject he talks about.
likewise he really emphasizes that you should watch it, so i guess i can kind of see where they're coming from, even if it's unlikely.
if he did turn out to be involved in making it by chance more power to him. he has every right to advertise it, his or not. there's been a ton of effort put into it.

The reason his possible involvement isn't sitting well with people is just how glowingly he is talking about game.
Like if it is in fact something he made, he wouldn't just be patting himself on the back, he'd be making love to himself in that vid, with what he said about it. This is also why I don't actually believe he does in fact have a part.

The inherent existence of it as as a ps1 looking thingie is pretty interesting. Even the aesthetic by itself is already cool.
I like how authentic it looks, though am I the only one that was thrown off by the sound design instead of the graphics?
I wouldn't have noticed the absence of texture warping as a clue for being fake unless people were vocal about it, it looks like an actual PS1 game to me back to back, keyword LOOK
The music on the other hand feels homebrew-y (specially the CAUGHT jingle, it's very jarring) and stuff like the quake sound that happens when you input faces on the chalkboard sounds way too "clean" and like an RPG Maker stock sound effect.
Plot twist:
[sp] It's a real lost game by an actual lost developer who only released a handful of copies despite all of the "Flaws" the game has[/sp]

The game is missing some rendering quirks of the PS1, it's not legit, unless it's an actual rom with a custom renderer

the creator's going all out at least, in petscop 8 (maybe some others) you can hear the unmistakable ps1 button smashing

I wouldn't be surprised if the creator is actually using a Playstation controller to get as much into character as possible

Ah, the spongy face buttons. I never even knew pressing them harder would actually help on DualShock 2.

The only time I ever saw that actually used was with MGS3. I was very confused as to why I'd accidentally slit guards' throats when I was interrogating them until I figured it out.
