Cool, I think Small Change is also a great album. I'm still not sure which era to prefer but I think I listen to his jazz more than his experimental rock stuff.

Watching Big Time now, think this is the best part from what I've seen.

I found a busker in leeds who pretty much exclusively plays closing time. Gave him a fiver.
this album will be awesome....
I can't stop listening to Rain Dogs. It's one of the most atmospheric albums I've ever heard
Got three items of waits memorabilia for my birthday yesterday, a T shirt, a poster, and a button.
The button has a pretty good pun on it, Tom Waits For No One

2 months.............. 1 day.
Thanks for the link, I was looking everywhere for a stream.
Not sure about the new single... its ok...
I hate when musicians bitch about their album being shared though.
It's not like he needs the money that horribly.
The car listening idea would be nice though.

Oh, and your wife is pregnant
Anyone ever read the Wit & Wisdom page on his site? it's pure gold:
"There's only one reason you write new songs: you get sick of the old songs."
"I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy."

great one liners. the second one is in this interview which I totally love

also, speaking of beefheart, op should mention that the direction Waits took in the 80s was inspired by Beefheart, who's music was introduced to Tom by his wife Kathleen. Safe as Milk is apparently Tom's favourite album.

Blood money is my favorite of the newer ones.

Mule Variations and the ginormic masterpiece of Orphans.

Finally, someone else recognizes the genius of Mule Variations. Real Gone is the one that started it all for me, though it was a shocking introduction with those beatboxing dead girl blues. It was even more shocking to hear the same man as a smoky lounge singer on The Heart of Saturday Night. Just got into Nighthawks and never have songs about hash browns and sausage been so awesome. Can't wait for that new album.

I'm listening to Mule Variations a lot these days. It's incredible.
You should try his first album Closing Time, it's completely different to Waits now but still great.
I've just been following the wire and noticed season one used a cover of "Down in the hole", I've just gotten to season 2 and am pleasantly surprised they are using Waits' version.
