There are people for a game community I'm a pretty big part of who spend half their time arguing with eachother about their game modifications and calling one another autistic all while pretending to be hot shit at a really insignificant coding language used in the game.
The best part is that they are so devoted to making the mods for the game not many of them know any other coding language so while coding has the benefit of being really useful if you learn early most of them won't go fucking anywhere because of the game they make mods for!
damn it i don't even get dreams in english

I don't even dream
i really want to learn to code but i don't really see the point, my brother was born in the 70's so he experienced the early boom of computers, and coding was very useful for anything (he even made his own games), so basically i only learn what i need to learn. in some ways, i don't know if this is lazyness
Coders of facepunch, any ideas on how to boost my interest in coding?
I don't even dream
actually you do dream when you're in REM sleep stage, you might not remember, but you do dream, are you a heavy sleeper? sometimes i can't really sleep and when i wake up like every 2 hours i find that i can remember dreams a lot better
Lol, his skill level doesn't exceed the expectations of what a 14 year old interested in programming could normally achieve.
I hate when the word prodigy is thrown around incessantly.
More and more I begin to think they never truly exist, at least to the caliber that their parents usually claim. The only person that I'm aware of who honestly deserves the title "prodigy" was Mozart.

sure you do, you just never remember them.
have someone wake you up in the middle of your sleep.
His Mac Fanboyism is actually going to hold him back.
Didn't really help that his "prodigy" showcase includes very simple iphone apps.

No, if you don't want to do it then don't.
Programming is like solving riddles and creating art in a foreign language, if that doesn't appeal to you then maybe you aren't suited for the hobby/profession.

find a secondary interest that ties into programming
a lot of facepuncher devs here originate from the gmod community, so a lot of us knew at least a scripting language or two
since we liked video games, we worked on video games
work on something you like
if you like music, do music processing programming or data mine music statistics or something
:)
Im happy seeing him suceed. But i am envious. As fuck. I could have been like this if it hadent been for my parents shoving "YOU HAVE TO WEAR PRETTY CLOTHES AND LIKE POP CULTURE AND BELIEVE IN GOD" bullshit down my throat, if the shitwanking docters had not labelled me shit, crammed pills down my throat(wich apparently gave me permanent brain damage) or forced me to sit in a sped class where i as a fucking 8th grader would do 2nd grade math and FUCKING PLAYBOOKS. I would have it like him.
Its how my society is "BE DIFFERENT, CRAM PILLS DOWN YER THROAT AND KICK YOU OUT OF SOCIETY WITHOUT EVEN DOING ANYTHING"
Had i not had ignorant fucking parents, teachers or docters, i would proably do shit like him.
Program, Read alot and maybe listen to some classical(if anything at all)
but no, after all this forced-to-be-stupid-because-thats-normal "therapy" with pills and shit, i watch porn, chug down vodka and listen to fucking black metal. Other than that i am an insane, transgendered fuck.

I feel bad for being so critical.
However, any time someone comes out into the public spectrum with declarations of their genius they have set themselves up for analysis.
I felt even worse when it got to the segment about his apps and I burst out laughing at his tree decoration app.

what are you doing?
I feel like I'm reading the confessional diary of a very troubled child.
Funfact: Nikola Tesla thought women were a waste of time too.
Edit: holy shit dont get me wrong, i meant he thought that girlfriends are a waste of time.
This guy is going to create Cylons, for sure
Dreaming in code? I dream in Salvador Dali, now where are all the cameras and the interviewers?
ITT child prodigies in the field of jealousy

Yep. Prodigies are extremely rare, but if you went by the media you'd think there's dozens in each school. Most of the time these kids have the gift of focus, allowing them to buckle down and do the work at a much younger age than others. (This is not a degradation of what Santiago and others like him have done. Mozart was a prodigy, Beethoven had to work for it, yet we remember both as masters of their art.)
He's not even that good, when I was 14 I could do so much more code then him I could build mainframes and compute intricate motherboard algorithms blindfolded.
he's smart, and i'm sure he'll be successful, but he must have a very boring life. he's missing out on having fun.

Many would say the same thing about someone who has 3,491 posts on an internet forum

I agree.
I don't think sex is a waste of time, though.

over 4 years? i dont even post much anymore
I started Javascript at 12 and I still suck at programming.
This makes me sad because I'm stupid.
ITT child prodigies in the field of jealousy
Mm I'm not so sure.
It's only rational to be critical about these things. This kid is smart as hell and I have no doubts that he has the capacity to achieve many things.
I hate how the term prodigy is thrown around though. Take this for example, it's from the wikipedia page on prodigies.
Astronomy
Tanishq Mathew Abraham (born 2003) is an American child prodigy with Indian (East) ancestry who joined the on-campus college Astronomy class at 7 years old. Not only did he pass the course with an A grade but he was the top student among his college classmates (the youngest in the world). He is also one of the youngest members of American Mensa, joining at 4 years old in 2008. As of 2010, he and his younger sister, Tiara Thankam Abraham are the youngest siblings to both join Mensa at 4 years old.
This kid is called a prodigy for getting an A in a memorization course at a community college.
We have to be careful about who we award the title to because at this point it holds no integrity and in many cases no validity either.

You're probably just not as motivated as he is.
I guess that's his gift in itself though, isn't it.
I'm perfectly fine being an art major. I am.
I don't want to sound like an asshole but this isn't really all that special?
I started programming when I was 10 and far exceeded his skill level at 14. He got lucky with the college, they took a risk other colleges wouldn't. Hell I've complained tons of times about how all the shit I've learned in school is useless. I feel I could easily go into college classes for programming and what not, this kid just managed to find one that would accept him at a young age.
He is smart, but he isn't a prodigy. Not only me but other programming buddies of mine from school were doing these things before high school.
It kinda pisses me off how his parents are so supportive and say he is a prodigy while mine just think I sit and play on my computer all day. I'm jelly of his lucky break.
Smart kid, but i wouldn't throw the word prodigy out there, there's a lot of kids out there with similar mental capacity that would just rather have social skills, also a lot of the crap they showed from his classes seemed to be pretty basic, anyone who would consider themselves even the least bit credible in this field would have been able to accomplish many of those task's albeit it is impressive that it's a 14 year old doing it.
Main issues with the video were moments like when his father said he passed with a 99.9% But at what? he didn't go on to mention any major accomplishment outside of pushing a few apps out to the apple store and going to a local college at a very young age. It felt like a lot of the video was trying to show what the producers felt was really complicated tech shit, like the comment on Arm and x86, which made me just think he's that kid in school that wants everyone to think he's an absolute genius just saying techie "buzzwords" or anything that sounds remotely like he's completely enveloped in computers.
I wish the kid the best, and he's done well to accomplish as much as he has at a young age but he seems like just about every other socially awkward kid that's interested in technology/programming/networking/computers/ect, the only thing that really sets him apart is he's pushed him self to actually accomplish something, which will hopefully make him a successful developer or IT Professional.
I work with someone who tells me he was considered a prodigy as a child, he graduated college at a very young age and he honestly is extremely smart when it comes to his field, but i find him to be very odd and while he has such vast knowledge in his field it's amazing how little he knows outside of it, even when it comes to other IT related fields, and it just seems to me it would be extremely hard to make friends, socialize or have any sort of life when you're so focused on one subject.
I am kind of jealous of his motivation; I'd really like to be passionate about a subject like he is, but alas so far I am not.

I don't get it, I was making commercial quality 3D rendering and physics engines, rather than craptastic and basic mobile apps like checkers, when I was 14. I had a girlfriend and was a varsity athlete all year round, too, not a socially retarded asshole.
Where's my fucking documentary?
EDIT: ok can u guys make me a documentary pls
