Uhh the only difference is that this kid said that, " I find that girlfriends are a tremendous waste of time"
He's only 14 though, and he is largely ignorant of the teenager culture, wich is "DISREGARD KNOWLEGDE, AQQUIRE SOCIAL STATUS THROUGH CONTACT WITH THE OTHER GENDER"
Wtf, why is he walking outside on his socks @ 1:04
Toe shoes.
Awkwardness to the max.
What self respecting programmer would use a Mac?
The kid's literally surrounded by Apple products. iPad, iPhone, iMac, Mac mini, MacBook, Mac Pro, he had all of them. No wonder he is drawing clusters with Xserves and Mac minis in it. He also wants to work at Apple.
As I said before, the brand image is laser-etched into his retinas by now.
He could make is own damn company
He should make his own fucking operating system and build a multi billion dollar corporation off of it. Computers can do pretty much anything when it comes to digital media. Why are we stuck with just a few windows in which to see that world
Anyway, I can barely speak fluent english, what hope do I have to learn any programming language

It's not that hard, try it.
:)
Im happy seeing him suceed. But i am envious. As fuck. I could have been like this if it hadent been for my parents shoving "YOU HAVE TO WEAR PRETTY CLOTHES AND LIKE POP CULTURE AND BELIEVE IN GOD" bullshit down my throat, if the shitwanking docters had not labelled me shit, crammed pills down my throat(wich apparently gave me permanent brain damage) or forced me to sit in a sped class where i as a fucking 8th grader would do 2nd grade math and FUCKING PLAYBOOKS. I would have it like him.
Its how my society is "BE DIFFERENT, CRAM PILLS DOWN YER THROAT AND KICK YOU OUT OF SOCIETY WITHOUT EVEN DOING ANYTHING"
Had i not had ignorant fucking parents, teachers or docters, i would proably do shit like him.
Program, Read alot and maybe listen to some classical(if anything at all)
but no, after all this forced-to-be-stupid-because-thats-normal "therapy" with pills and shit, i watch porn, chug down vodka and listen to fucking black metal. Other than that i am an insane, transgendered fuck.
What.
When an artist paints a painting and he finishes he says, "Oh wow that's a really nice painting I like how it turned out."
No. Programming and art must be two completely different things because just, no.
If his parents weren't rich, then he would be nothing.
This is basically just another Bill Gates case, he would have been successful even if he spent his entire day watching TV.
It's nice that he decided to contribute to the world by helping open source projects.
I admit, I'm jealous. Not because of code, though. It doesn't seem like that would be my thing, really. It's just that I have no idea what I want to do, and I don't really feel qualified to do anything, really. I tell people, "Oh, I might like to major in art." Yeah, I'm sure that's gonna happen. I also thought I was going to be a musician a couple of years ago.
And here I sit, typing this, on my new desk, next to my new flatbed scanner. Most of my Christmas gifts were art supplies. And it's great to see that my parents believe in me so much, but it gets depressing working on something for so long, only to absolutely hate how it turns out. And it's scary too. This is, like, my only chance. I am probably one of the worst students, ever. So, I figured, hey I think I'm good at art, let's focus on that. Well, guess what, asshole? Now you've destroyed any chance of you ever falling back on some career with a decent pay if this doesn't work out.
And I don't really think I'm going to make it.
People are like, "Oh, you're stuff's good, Shane." But I just can't see it. Yeah, I guess it's better than the average doodle a typical high school student would do, but nowhere near where it should be if I'm seriously considering this as a career choice. And I've tried sharing with the art community here at Facepunch, nobody cares. That's what really matters. If this is what I'm going to do, then I should be getting some encouraging comments from people who are actually good at art, not the guy who draws cocks on his desk for shits and giggles. I haven't drawn anything in weeks actually, because I'm actually afraid that I'm getting worse. That I'm deteriorating.
And you can go ahead, and be like, "Wow, nice sympathy grab, no one feels sorry for you." But you know what? Sometimes it just feels nice to complain. And that's what I'm doing right now, complaining about my situation to take a break from all the pretending that everything's going to be okay, and that I'm actually going to be remembered when I die. All of that shit, it's just unrealistic to think these things right now. I'm sorry, but reality gets to me sometimes, and you can understand that it just feels nice to talk about things, right?
Welcome to my life. I've gone through a lot already and it's because of my parents. They want the best for me which is going to college, but I'm afraid of the drawbacks such as debt. And the fact that what I want to do in life is something college won't teach me.
I had a day where I was sitting in my room writing music and I realized, "My life is going to suck.." For about an hour, I cried. Alone. In my room.
After that day, I feel like I was much more motivated to do things. I hope you have the feeling of more motivation.
From the looks of his apps they seem pretty basic; still more than I can code. The only I experience I have with coding is basic LUA; it helped with modifying scripts or fixing bugs when developers were too lazy to. This kid's greatest ability isn't his coding, it's the motivation that is admirable. A lot of us have trouble staying focused and getting shit done; this kid seems to plow right through things and make it to his goal.
No. Programming and art must be two completely different things because just, no.
Guy who said that must not be an artist or atleast not a very self critical one. I can only speak for myself but when I see an art piece I have created all that stands out to me are it's imperfections.
when I see an art piece I have created all that stands out to me are it's imperfections.
deep
Good for this kid; he's found something he loves at such an early age and he seems to be happy with himself. That's a lot more than a lot of kids could ask for at his age.
As smart as this kid is he could be my programming teacher!
Hey, that's me in the video!
Listen close to his voice at 2:33
He is in fact ... a robot
He talks like Microsoft Sam.
[editline]5th January 2013[/editline]
While he's definitely smart, he clearly has some autistic tendencies.
[editline]5th January 2013[/editline]
note that I'm not discriminating.
Ooh ooh! I dream about 3D Topology and Drawings! Can I be a prodigy too!?
I thought every programmer got those dreams.
Wtf, why is he walking outside on his socks @ 1:04
I'm pretty sure he's wearing these.

oh god they look worse than crocs
All he ever thinks about is coding, he wakes up at 5:30 just to code, he talk to his prof everyday to talk about coding, and he's not interested in girls. Does he have the slightest fragment of social life at all?
oh god they look worse than crocs
Visually, they're not so appealing, but in practice they are awesome, I've been running with them for a good 6-7 months, I was never able to run for very long because of my shin splints, but now I am able to run for much longer, and they're really useful in the gym.
successful people younger than me make me miserable
Have fun living a pathetic life, then. If you look at people who are clearly doing better than you and you get sad, how do you ever expect to get on their level? Take it as an opportunity to see what you're doing wrong with your life and what you actually want to be doing, then improve upon yourself. It's a lot better than moping about how others are superior.
My main concern for him is that his outlook on programming will be so streamlined if he doesn't branch out academically.
come back to me when he's manipulating large queries in small amounts of execution time from scaled and redundant databases or predicting the outcome some sort of complex system from a sample of information he data mined

this is the type of stuff actual programmers from facepunch have done, so what, should us facepunch spergburgers get our own tv slot or something
Were they in college at 14?
I thought every programmer got those dreams.
I do when I'm pretty deep into a project. I dream up solutions and ideas, it's great. Massive motivation boost, too.
Were they in college at 14?
They admit that the college took a risk with him. No matter how you swing this, he lucked out with the college thing, stop using it as an argument. Very, very few colleges would do that.
I'm quite jealous when I see his mental capacities in a way, good for him for being so fluent as a programmer, another aspect is that I also pity him, because it's obvious he has some sort of social disadvantage.
