Finnish civil war, White guards.
Not proud, the whites murdered everyone they didn't like after the war.
My great grandfather got kidnapped by Nazi in WWII

My brother, Nick is in Kirkuk, Iraq, in 3rd Infantry Division.
He's twenty years old and my best friend. His job as at first to drive Bradlys, but then they realized he had computer experience, because my dad fixes computers and picked up a few tricks, but now he watches a checkpoint on 4 hour shifts.

My Great Uncle fought in Cyprus during their bout for independence.
But apart from that nothing else really.
I think my great grandfather volunteered and was sent off to some country in World War 2, since Sweden didn't participate in the war, the people could still volunteer to help some countries I think.
But I really never knew much about him, it's just a feeling I've got :v:
Granddad, US army sniper WW2
Other Grandfather MP Korea.
Great uncle, Korea, Colonel in Nam
My (late) grandfather served in the RAF during WWII
My grandfather, after graduating from bombardier training.

He was stationed in Italy, and flew thirty-five bombing missions.
My Polish grandfather, who I never really got to know that well, was an engineer who came to Britain and designed/worked on plane (possibly jet?) engines for the RAF in WWII.
Not exactly fighting, but I think it's pretty damn cool.
My grandpa on my moms side served in the Navy for idk how long never met him because he fell victim to lung cancer I believe.
My mom also served in the Navy for 20 years and my dad served in the Army for 3 years.
My cousin just finished boot camp a month ago and is now almost done with his Marine Specialization Camp or whatever but he's a Marine
My other cousin is also going to be joining the Army and I'm going to be joining the Air Force.
My great grandfather on my dad's mum's side fought in the second world war, British Army and served in Italy, I think.
My great grandfather on my dad's dad's side fought in the first world war, though I don't know much about what he did.
They both made it back. I don't know anything about my mum's side, though.
My great grandad was in WWII.
My grandads got a box of his medals stashed away somewhere.

So yeah... had a grandfather that went to WW2 kicked some ass, killed some Germans, stepped on a mine, at some historical battles.
Also fun fact, my last name is a military name, his last name before he entered was "dick" well for obvious reason that dosn't make a great military name "sgt dick come over here"
for obvious reasons im not saying the name he changed it too, but it is a class A military name.
FRICK YEAH. I hate Germans.
My Grandad was shot in the second world, he had to hide from the German's for two days till he was found by his commanding officer.
Also, My big cousin is serving in Afghanistan just now and I wake up wondering if I'll ever see him again, he phones me everytime he's allowed too.
My step grandfather was in Germany in WWII. I don't think he saw combat though because he arrived near the end of the war. I have two German pamphlets and medals, pins, badges, etc. from him.

Awesome, on my grandfather's will he left me his medals. :scotland:
My grandad was a para in WW2 badass eh?
Great grandfather was in Finnish winter war.
He lost his arm to Soviet machinegunner which used explosive ammunition.
My Great Grandfather(My mom's side) was in the Finnish Winter war, he told me he once killed 3 people with a Grenade. I dont know if that part was true because after the war he was a Heavy Drinker.
My Grandpa was a WWII infantryman fighting on the Moldovan border against the USSR. He made it back safe.
My dad was a Marine and a GREAT marksman. Too bad he got Hepatitis B and got discharged. He got better within a week, so that sucks.
My Grandad taught the Burmese how to play Cricket for five years.
nope
my grandfather served as a supply trucker for the eastern front
apparently he was "forced" to work, and escaped a couple of times, before german officers held his father hostage untill he surrendered himself and started working again until late war
that's what i have been told though, for all i care he could have been collaborating or something, he still was an awesome granddad although quiet at times
My grandpa was a resistant during World War II (Frenchie here), my uncle was in the army, he jumped out a truck and a grenade exploded in front of him. He got a fucked up leg now... luck is a real bitch sometimes.
My grandfather was a bomber pilot in WW2, flew missions from an air force base in England and hit many targets in Germany. His plane encountered every thing from Luftwaffe to heavy AA flak. His ball gunner got 1 confirmed kill and 1 probable kill.
Sad part is, he is so old now that he rarely moves from the TV. It's really hard to believe. I really wish I could have met him in his youth, he had such a great and exciting life.
My grandfathers 2 cousins were both in the infantry and fought on the western front. One was evacuated after he took shrapnel from a German mortar.
I've heard some crazy stories from my grandparents, one was how some of their Army friends got captured by the Germans and how they were held at gunpoint for a while before being released. They claimed that it felt like slow motion as they ran from the house they were being held at, they figured they would have shot them in the back.
My great grandfather was a teacher and a community leader, so he got taken by the FBI and did secret work (mostly decoding Japanese transmissions), while his brother was in the Japanese royal navy. Also had a great uncle who was in the 442nd.
My grandparents on one side are quite young (In their 60s) so it was their parents who were involved in the big wars.
Mum's Dad's Dad was a Private in WW2 and his group was only told at the last second not to board a boat at Dunkirk which was sunk shortly afterwards on the crossing.
Mum's Mum's Dad was an army chaplain in North Africa, the youngest in the British Army. Used to be a photo of him online, but I can't find it.
Dad's Dad was in the RAF, that's all I know.
My grandpa still has a big folder with his dad's draft papers, letters home, injury leave papers and the discharge papers from after the war. I forget if it's his dad's or dad's dad's, but there's also a medal.
I never expected the thread to grow at this rate :)
I thought at first that I'd get flamed.
Keep it coming.
Both of my grandfathers fought in WWII (I'm romanian btw). One fought at Stalingrad and was killed there and the other fought at Odessa but got caught by the russians and was a prisoner for some time. Though he managed to survive in the russian prisons till the war ended :buddy: ,but I still never saw him alive because he got bitten by a rabid fox and was to stubborn to get injected at the hospital, so he died before I was born :saddowns:
I am Romanian also, your the first one I have met on facepunch
Cousin and best friend was in the Rangers, was killed by an IED in 2007. Still think about him every day and I haven't taken off the necklace he gave me before he left since.
Uncle killed during the Battle of Fallujah in 2004.
Grandfather fought in Italy and the Netherlands during WWII
