JMEMantzel: Crazy mountain genius builds everything, why not giant robot?

It doesn't look like his kickstarter is going to succeed.
This kickstarter is his way of telling the big toy companies, "Hey look, the world isn't hopeless; kids really do enjoy smart toys!".
This breaks my heart.

Final pieces down the mountain! Test drive in 2 days.
His kickstarter is really bumming me out though...I think it's great but maybe he set his expectations too high on the campaign funds.
i can not wait
Building giant robots and being a family man. This guy is what men everywhere should aspire to be like. Livin' their dreams and still sparing enough time to make your family happy.
The motors almost seem a bit too weak for it, but I hope he can make it out to a maker's faire with that beauty.
All these years I've been watching him build this robot, and now it's here. I need to save some money so I can donate, this man is a real inspiration.
Someone needs to do an updated version of this with all the new videos in it.

Damn, I finished Robot Day and realized I was smiling, and that I had been the whole time without realizing it. That was the most rewarding multiple year journey, just to see his excitement, his joy, and his success. All because of something he WANTED to do, not something for money or because he needed to do it. He really does have passion, and it's something more people, including myself especially, need to pick up on and try for themselves. I'm almost sad to see it end. But with that said, I'm sure he'll pick something even more ambitious up in time.
Hah, he looks so happy
Very awesome!

Been posted in another thread already, but it's always a good excuse to bump this brilliantly crazy man.

What's after the giant spider robot?!
Also, skip to around halfway for additional(and slightly higher quality) robot field testing footage.

So he had one bad experience, started cutting classes, only wentto exams, and then was surprised that he didn't learn much. This guy may be smart but you can tell he's a little crazy.

In his defense, physical applications are great learning tools, besides the large amount of trial-and-error you go through.

Making an efficient pipe stove and celebrating it over popcorn with his daughter.
Also, combustible smoke info in the description

$5 UHaul door mod. Why? Because reasons.
Jamie decides to ditch his mountain fortress, have more meetings with fans, and move to Chile. Wut

A little worried for the Mantzels, they haven't settled on a proper area to live in just yet. For the time being, here's a video of the hostel they were recently staying in.
I'm really trying not to have my world view cloud my opinion on this, but it's hard. I've been watching Jaime's videos for a couple years now and I can't wrap my head around his decision making. It'd be one think to move to Chile yourself. With your wife even. But moving there with two small children, while not speaking the native language just seems insane to me. I dunno what to make of this.

They're not necessarily moving to Chile anymore, but I kind of agree.
Jaimie's a nice guy, but I think his whole anti-nationalism persona kind of clouded his judgement there. I've got no doubt he can do it(dude built his first house by dragging shit through the woods without a road), but even I wish he took a little more preparations so that his family wouldn't be moving from hostel-to-hostel looking for an exceptional patch of land.
Then again, we are talking about this guy:

Damn, this is a long bump. Alright!
They seem to be doing pretty okay so far. Jaimie's current project is a big-ass boat.

I really hope for the best for this man and his family.
He genuinely seems to have found his secret to finding happiness and spreading that joy and compassion to his family/others.
next video I see him in will be the north pole I swear.
Did somebody say unnecessary bumps?

Jaimie buys an island, finishes the boat, makes snappable habitats, and has a strange fetish for fiberglass
I don't see why he bought an island, he could've built his own out of fiberglass and plywood
He's looking worse and worse as time goes on
His hair is getting progressively worse, but the man has a standing heart rate of 40 bpms which is healthy

I'd say he's doing fine
