I've always played open handed, started that when I first started playing because I'm left handed and was playing on a right handed set up, I can play either way now though.

It looks weak to play on is the only real con.
You'll never have to worry about tuning, and recording with it will be a piece of cake.
Ugh I played on some electrics today, I'd really need one which costs at least £1000, all the others are tiny and squashed up :P I don't like em.
On the bright side I bought some ear muffs and Ahead drum stick (Lars Ulrich signiature :D)
ELECTRIC PROS AND CONS
Pros:
Loads of sounds
Compact
Quiet
Easy recording
Cons:
Expensive if you want a good one
Sounds terrible compared to a real kit (on cheap ones, and even on expensive ones it's just not the same as a real kit)
May feel wierd going back to a normal kit
No expandability (e.g. you can't buy an extra cymbal)
Cheap ones are terrible, (squashed up, not layout like a real kit and not much flexibilty to move the pads around)
When I say cheap I mean under the £600 mark, expect to pay a lot for a decent one.

Thanks dude !
Yeah I understand you on the cons , you at least need a roland £1000 pound one IMO.
Thanks for the info ! :v:
I played like 5 times yesterday for about half an hour each, after not playing much for a couple weeks.
The first session, as well as the second, my feet were struggling to keep up any decently paced double bass rhythm, although I could do flams/triplets decently.
The last time I played though, after I had been active for about 10-20 minutes before playing, I was easily able to do 20-40bpm faster than I could struggle to do earlier in the day. My triplets/flams on the double bass were also much cleaner, and faster, and I could do more complex double bass rhythms without too much difficulty.
So basically, tl;dr = I got warmed up yesterday after not playing much for a while.
Also, like the person above me said about his right arm/leg being bigger, I have the same problem. I'm also much less coordinated with my left limbs...I think I'm gonna try to play with my left hand on the high hat (for ergonomic reasons, and to allow more complex high-hat beats, with more ease) and using my left foot almost exclusively for the bass. I need to practice left handed blast beats too, my right hand just completely dominates my left in singles speed.
I love this thread :D
Dont want it to die !!!! :v:
Whats the cheapest electric or acoustic drumkit on the market? - I'm looking to buy one.
Thanks in advance :buddy:
Please dont buy Cheap drum kit :(
Put a bit more money in it
you wont regret it !!
Do NOT buy a cheapass drumset, you will regret it. At the very least, get a used one for around $500+, or a new one for at least $600. Preferably a Tama/Pearl/Gretsch set for a cheaper one.

Depends on what type of music is being played.

True, what about metal or hard rock then?

I'd say Tama or Pearl. Tama make godlike hardware. I have a pearl but I want a Tama Superstar.

The brand of drums isn't going to make a difference (unless it's first act or pulse or some other shitty company). The drums sizes plus tuning plus the type of wood the drum is made out of will determine your sound. You can really use any drum kit in any situation, just depends on tuning, I've seen metal bands play on jazz kits and jazz bands play on massive metal kits.
I recommend Sonor and Gretsch. Anyway, I sold my old kit, so I'm gonna buy some more drum-stuff. Hooray!
strange... i saw a video a few pages bad on a quad tut and I feel the need to ask.
I've always played quads right left (hands), left right (feet). is that wierd? because I find it to be much easier.
I cant help you sorry to above post.
but i found a cool as fuck drumming simulator , good time killer http://www.virtualdrumming.com/drums/windows/drums-free-drumming.html
Singing + Drumming at the same time = difficult. D:

I do the same thing. I use RL on the bass for when it needs to be super tight.

cool, same here. :buddy:
Does anyone know a UK shop that sells Toms by themselves? I want new toms but my local shops only sell full kits, but I don't want a new bass or snare.

Depends on so many things. The drum heads, the wood, etc.
Two Tama Starclassic B/B kits with the same sizes/finish, everything technically the same, can sound quite different.
Although, my favorite kit is a Tama Starclassic B/B =) and Tama for favorite make.
Godlike hardware, and awesome drums in the low and high price range.
So I just went out and got new heads for all my toms, and snare; I fucking LOVE them.
I went from Evans Clear G1s, to Remo Vintage Coated Emperors. The sound difference was huge. The Vintage Coated Emperors sound PHENOMENAL. They had 100x more tone than the clear Evans, and were much warmer sounding.
The odd head though is the snare one, it's a Skyntone.

It looks a bit odd on my kit, with vintage coated heads, and a greyish calf-skin like head on the snare. But I couldn't care less if it was pink with Hello Kitty imprinted on it, it sounds absolutely amazing.
Who's a better drummer: John Bonham or Keith Moon?
For me, Keith Moon IMHO.
