Okay I've had enough of my bass drum's crazy antics. I'm buying new heads for it.
How good is an Aquarian Super Kick II for metal drumming? I'm looking for that clicky, high attack, thumping sound.
this is what I'm looking at getting (all of it)

any thoughts on these?
Aquarian Super Kick II is an amazing head. I've been using it for about 6 months, and I love it. Great durability if you put a patch on the front (I used [url=
http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/77186]this one, since it was thin and big enough for two beaters; double pedal- the Falam Slam one just seemed a bit too thick to me, dampening the sound) as well as an amazing sound.
It has a great powerful boom with little/no muffling, but with a pillow + port hole on the front head, it sounds great for double bass. Very punchy sounding.
I tuned mine pretty low, maybe a 1/2, or 1/4 turn past finger-tight. The reso head is a big higher, with a big (too big :( cut it myself lol) hole.
Okay I changed my mind. THIS is what I'm getting. I'm looking for the perfect metal setup (skins setup at least)

Unless anyone has had any experience with the aquarian superkick 2? Reviews say it might be too rounded and boomy for metal lovers, but I've been told that it's better than a Powerstroke 3.
Also I'll get kit pics in a sec.
I honestly would get the Superkick II instead. I HAD the Powerstroke 3 for a few months, but wasn't really happy with the bass drum sound so I went to get a new head, and ended up getting the Aquarian Superkick II head.
Don't get me wrong, the Powerstroke 3 head sounds great, but it just wasn't the sound I was looking for. What you want though, sounds quite a bit like the sound I got out of the Superkick II. For the reso head, the Evans or Aquarian should be fine, about the same. I'd probably get the Aquarian for the sake of matching though lol.
Really? I want a really thumpy almost clicky sound, with pretty much no boominess. But the Aquarian does sound like it's a very good head and it's certainly got a lot of fans.
This is the sort of sound I'm talking about.

Okay, done some more thinking and researching, I would definitely get the Aquarians. BUT as I have just found I want these headphones/earmuffs, and they're damn expensive.

Instruction books are OK, but for the most improvement in the least amount of time I suggest you get a private teacher, or my favorite, play with friends.
I like drums more than any other instrument, personally i think they look cooler to play , and if you can play them right it sounds good :D couldn't tell you about prices etc. , don't know that much :(
yeh, i've been doin that stuff 4 8 years now, i switched 2 piano but i still like playin teh drums.

Here is about the sound I've gotten out of my heads.
(1:29 for epic double bass) I think this is my new favorite drummer.

I just wish I could get my toms to sound that amazing! It would probably help getting better drums, and having them mic'd haha.
How can i remove the vibration i get from my tom-toms that rattle my snare?
It helps having quality snares, that are in good condition. Also, an interesting method used by Gavin Harrison to reduce snare vibration is to remove 2-4 strands from the outside of the snares. He just uses pliers to take them off, then files it down to prevent the sharp edges from piercing the snare head.
Another thing you can try is detuning the lugs near the snare beds; just not so much to alter the sound of the snare drum much. The first thing you should do, is replace the snares if they are in bad shape (any bent/stretched) and then make sure the snare isn't too closely tuned to any of your toms. You should turn the snares off to compare the pitch of the drum to your toms.
Wow that guy's set sounds awesome.
I've always been interested in drumming, but I don't know what to do about it simply because of how expensive and noisy it is to the other people in my family. I'm wondering if electrical drums is a good alternative for people like me and what the prize is. Then if I play that for a while and get good at it I can consider getting real drums.
dude. Electronic drums are much more expensive than a beginner acoustic kit. Yes it's quite but in the long run it'd probably be cheaper to buy a beginner drum kit and some practice pads.
Yeah, beginner kit and practice pads, any electric kit under about £800 is not worth buying.

Yes SK1 or 2 is good for metal but I would rather get the 1ply version.

I think the SKI or II would probably be your best bet but you will never be able to replicate that same sound though. It does sound like he has the batter just tightened above wrinkling, and the res tight or vice versa. I may be totally wrong but in my ears it sounds kinda wet and punchy, not so much a click.(If you want click check out machine head's drummer ha sounds like a clock tick tick tick tick tititititititititck)
God the Chris Adler Black Panther snare is sexy. I want it.
I'm gonna start saving up for a Sonor SQ2 kit, but I've got quite a way to go :(
(dreaming)

Hell yeah its fucking sexy.
Btw why are my drumsticks (Regal Tip 5B's) giving me blisters after about 5 mins of playing? Any ideas ?:S
Friction between stick and hand. Either change your grip, and/or how you are hitting the drums, or get gloves or something.
I noticed that I got big blisters pretty fast when I used a huge Metal-N stick (basically 1 size up from 2b, I think) and played hard.
Now that I'm using Pro-Mark 420s, which are pretty thin, I noticed that I don't get blisters, they're more like calluses. I also don't play as hard, naturally from using a thinner stick, but I can play faster, and with more dynamic control.

Nice :D
Whats your kit look like ? - Pics?
:3:
Well I brought my drumset up to my church a couple days ago, since the one that was up there got taken home by whoever owned it :( and that took me about 2 hours to get setup haha.
But now I've got it mic'd and everything, I'll see if I can get a recording from the mixer into a laptop or something sometime so you guys can hear it :). It sounds awesome now that I got it like perfectly tuned with new Vintage Coated Emperors.
Anyone wanna buy some Vic Firth earmuffs?

Ha I just used mine for the 1st time ha it was signed by him I tried to clear coat it but it dissapeared! Atleast the head was signed. I don't have the right head on it I have a clear ATTACK 1ply medium but it still sounds fantastic.
How much you guys think Danny Carey's drum kit costs?

The last picture I have my crash replaced with my 14" china, since I currently don't have a stand to hold it.
It's a small set, but I like it.
Hey guys looking for a new ride?
I'm trying to sell mine it's a 1960/70's Zildjian Avedis Medium Ride.
There is more info and pics about it Here!
I pretty much wasted £30 on Lars Ulrich signiature Ahead drumsticks, they're alright, and I used them for a few months, but the other day I went back to using my good old 7a wooden sticks, just to compare, and I realised they are so much easier to use, and sound a lot fucking nicer. So £30 sticks vs £7 sticks, £7 sticks win.

Ahead sticks are terrible to use, in my opinion.
I love Pro-Mark sticks =)
I switch out between my Pro-Mark 420s (Portnoy signature) and my Vic Firth Dave Weckl signature stick, nylon tipped. I don't love the brown coating on them since it's all chipping off (expected) and when I flip my sticks over occasionally, to get a stronger attack on the snare/toms, it leaves brown shit on my heads lol.
I also use some Vic Firth 7as I think, maybe a 5a when I want a wood tip to play with, for a jazzier cymbal sound.

I love how his toms are, but I'm not a huge fan of his cymbal layout. I prefer semi-flat cymbals with a small angle towards you, that are pretty low so you don't have to reach far to hit them.
