I really need to tune my drum set, but suck at tuning it, anyone want to help out? I'll stream it and you guys can tell me higher or lower if your willing to help out. I really do suck at tuning my drumset.
My tips! I used to suck at it when I didn't know what I was doing, but have learned a ton from spending a lot of time with it, and research. First, start with new heads if you can. Loosen all the lugs until they have no tension at all, then tighten them by finger as tight as they will go, using the star pattern for tuning. This way, the head gets tensioned decently evenly before you start tuning. Now, start tightening each lug in that order (you want it to slowly be tensioned, evenly throughout the head, so the head tightens and stretches EVENLY to resonate properly) using about 1/4 or 1/2 turns of the drum key. If you want, you can even use a ruler to measure the distance from the top of the rim, to the drum head at each lug to make sure they are the same at each interval. Also, tap (use a stick if you want) very near the edge of the drum at each lug to check if the lugs are around the same pitch after you get it tight enough to hear a pitch from the drum. Basically, toms only need 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 turns per lug to reach a good tension. You CAN tune to notes/chords, but you really don't need to; whatever sounds best for each drum. The snare drum, obviously, is going to be much much tighter. Another thing to keep in mind is the top (batter) and bottom (resonant) heads on TOMS should be at exactly the same pitch, or very close. The resonant (snare-side) head should be tuned a bit higher than the batter head. This keeps the snares from vibrating excessively, and produces some nice overtones. As far as dampening goes, I like my drums unmuffled, and open. But in some cases where I'm mic'd, I may use a tad bit of moongel to keep it from being excessively ringy, but I like my drums to have a nice warm open tone, rather than a thud or punch. Good luck =) and feel free to ask about anything else.
I need eliminators! [editline]03:35AM[/editline]
Saved up for two years to finally be able to buy new heads and cymbals: Cymbals: AAX Stage Hats 14" HHX Stage Crash 18" HH Rock Ride 22" Drums: Tama Superstar in Piano Black 8x7, 10x8, 12x9, 14x14, 16x16 toms 14x5.5 snare 22x18 bass drum I spent a couple of days buffing out all the metal and polishing the finish. With the new cymbals and heads the kit practically looks new, but it's over five years old. Amazing what a microfiber cloth + guitar polish will do.
Saw your kit on the pdf Beautiful man
Alrite, since I've become sort of bored with playing drums to playalongs, I decided to play some drums to my own composition for a change. Some timing issues I think, but I've made alot progress timing wise. Anyway, link Bonus: Chops-o-solo
I've been so busy for the past months, i haven't actually sat down and played drums. But i have been occasionally practicing drumming with sticks on random objects. Whats a fun song that will challenge me a bit for someone who has been playing for 2 years?
Rock and Roll Band? (Boston) Metal? Or.. What?
Rock and Roll Band? (Boston) Metal? Or.. What?
If your talking to me then metal/rock please.
I'm practicing my blasts (blast beats), but I still suck. Does anyone have a good tutorial on them?
I play guitar, but I'd love to have some drums just to jam on.
If your talking to me then metal/rock please.
Anything by meshuggah... :v:
I need to get back into playing drums. I need those headphones that are protective earmuffs but also audio headphones, then I can play with a metronome and play along to music and stuff, that's a lot more fun.

Then you buy a pair of Koss porta pros. The Porta-pros have this genius clip system, so you can dismantle the earpieces, then you put them in your ear-protectors. They fit perfectly, and the Koss headphones have a pretty neutral sound.
Does anyone have like a set of online free lessons I can follow (in order)? I can't get a drum teacher near me so I thought I'd just do online lessons. I need some structured lessons that you do one after the order that get harder and harder.
Nylock , im not going to quote cause it was a big post, but that kit is nice man :v:
Shit, this beutiful thread is dying, Where's Thaard's lovelydrum solos when you need them :9
Shit, this beutiful thread is dying, Where's Thaard's lovelydrum solos when you need them :9
Well, I didnt think anyone cared? Hehe, I'm practicing some tunes since I'm gonna be backing my bands keyboardist at his test(music line). I'll probably upload some more vids in some days.
Hey guys recommend me some things to get for Christmas since that's coming up. I already got a good 5-piece set with a good pair of 13" hats,16" and 18" crashes, a 22" ride, and a 14" china.

Metronome is a good thing too to have, pretty important. And splash would be good also. I have some exelent news. My bands basist bought a Mac Pro + Pro tools + shitload of plugins + good interface, and he would like to do some drum recording with me, cos he wants to practise the drum mixing so when we do our next album he can co-work with the mixer more efficiently. So, we are going to do a recording session in few months. I will videotape the recordings too, so I can make good quality drum videos to youtube. So, I was thinking maybe you guys have suggestions what should I record or what you would like to see in the videos? Some info about me: Im basicly a metal drummer and my techniques are pretty limited to that genre, so dont expect me giving you any jazzy turorial videos. I am terrible at explaining any techniques I use, but I could do video showing some of the practise routines I do. Basicly by this I mean diffrent foot patterns that improve your control with your both feet, and few other explanations about how to work your speed and endurance. Outside of that I will do atleast one drum cover on a song, so you can maybe suggest a song for me to cover. Thanks : )
Meshuggah, electric red. Please do it
Heres a tune my bands keyboardist made for his music exam. I'm just practicing to it at the moment, but I'm pretty pleased with the playing so far. Sort of smooth jazz mixed with fusion - latino and reggae-rythms and a weird intro(sounds like something George Romero would use). Theres alot of changes, but the keyboardist wanted it this way. Can't wait to play it live! Some timing issues with piano, and the drums. http://www.2shared.com/file/9077511/f9505d61/Peder-spesial.html Click save to your pc.

I already have double pedals btw.
Meshuggah, electric red.
That sounds better, I can try, cos its pretty simple to explain and show how to practise. so thats what i think i gonna do. If you stilla have other good ideas, post them please. I think i might do few videos since i dont have that kind of recording gear in my arsenal everyday
If i had a 7 string id idiotically give pravus or combustion a go, and then fail in under three seconds with the worlds worst ever case of wankers cramp. And hey if you don't try youll never succeed

It just that I dont wanna record something i strugle with and then put it on youtube to hear how I suck : /

I might be getting new cymbals for birthday/xmas im mopst probably getting sabian cymbals. Mum n dad dont wanna to much on them so im going for the b8 pro. should i get them or go for zildjian?
Sabian B8 Pro's or regular B8's are in my opinion are better than Zildjian ZBT's.
Are black panther snares good? I'm thinking about getting one. And don't go on about just getting skins instead, I want a whole new snare.
Oh man I wish I hadn't bought my drum kit, there's loads of Tama Superstar Hyperdrives on eBay for the same price I bought my kit for. I really want a Superstar Hyperdrive, they sound awesome.
