I might be getting new cymbals for birthday/xmas im mopst probably getting sabian cymbals. Mum n dad dont wanna to much on them so im going for the b8 pro. should i get them or go for zildjian?
I don't recommend either one, I have used them both and broken them both within about a year, the best "beginner" cymbals I have used come from Paiste, they're pst 5 series is currently what I use and they have lasted the longest.
Keeping this thread alive. Heres some heavy-metall/hard rock with drumpedal cam. It was a request from some chick on youtube. So here 'tis.

This thread is not nearly active enough :frown:
Can anybody find me a good downloadable (or online) metronome? Mine crapped out yesterday.
If you have an iPod Touch, there's some pretty nifty (free) apps that get the job done.
I don't even have a cellphone :|
Man, I love the way Mike Portnoy's set sounds. I would kill just to have a few parts of it.
I'm finally getting my own drum kit :D
It is free from our friend. Mass majority of the parts are from Yamaha.
What are those cymbal arm things that clamp onto a regular cymbal stand and are generally used for splashes called?

Cymbal boom arms/clamps?
This just in: I'm getting a drum set soon. Any recommendations for a starting song to learn?
(Preferably Rock or Metal)

Something like Enter Sandman by Metallica is pretty simple. It doesn't have too many rudiments but it can help you with holding a beat.

I also suggest the songs The Ocean and Immigrant Song, both by Led Zeppelin.
The Ocean has a good amount of rudiments in it that a beginner drummer should know about. Immigrant song will help you with your foot endurance, keeping a beat, as well as pauses.
IMO Ginger Baker of Cream is the greatest drummer of all time. Agree anyone?
IMO Ginger Baker of Cream is the greatest drummer of all time. Agree anyone?
No. No drummer is the greatest of all time. There will always be better, and people have different opinions on what makes their favourite, the best. Ginger did a good job in Cream though, even if he was jumped up on smack for all those years. It's a miracle he survived.

Don't confine yourself to learning just one genre of music, this is suck a common mistake and it's one of the worst ones you can make. By learning other genres you'll be able to incorporate them into the music you play and be very versatile, and if your music taste changes you won't be stuck only playing 4/4 rock beats.
Your best bet is to start with basic rudiments from every genre and work your way up, just like learning your scales and chords with a stringed instrument, you have to learn you're rudiments for percussion.
I have a TAMA drum set.zildijian cymbals,AHEAD lars ulrich signature drumsticks, and two bass pedals but only one bass drum.all in all together that costs about 550 for me.

He's not that great.
Neils gotta be up there as far as "best" go. There is no real best, but there's certainly a lot of drummers I wouldn't hesitate to call godly. Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy, one of my favourites Flo Mournier from Cryptopsy. And if you know his work, Van Williams from Nevermore, I don't know what it is about him, but it's enjoyable.
Guys I have a ? probably a dumb one but about 3-4 months ago I bought a new mapex pro m with hardware for $400 and now someone is wanting to trade a roland kit Roland TD-9S Electronic Drum Set he said he bought about a year ago for $1400 and wanted to know if I should he said he just used it for studio
For the last funking time! Neil Peart is not the best drummer in the world. He's said so himself.. Just because you like Rush, doesnt mean hes the best. Have you ever heard him trying to play anything else? That Buddy Rich concert he did wasnt good, and he even admitted it himself! This is the reason I steer clear of Rush fans. OMG NEIL PEART RULZ! Why does he rule? Ohh you like the band, Ok, then hes the closest thing to the best drummer in the world.. NOT!
I dont know why many non-drummers cling to Neil Peart/Gene Hoglan/Buddy Rich/Mike Portnoy/Travis Barker, and that theyre the best drummers ever. There will always be better! Another problem that, even if they have mastered one genre, they struggle with others. Neil Peart struggled with jazz-swing, Buddy Rich struggled with rock and funk(I read somewhere he took lessons from but ultimatly failed, because he always went to bigband swinging). If the drummer is popular and famous, it doesnt mean that he's worlds best. Stop compairing, music is about sharing and inspiration. Not comparing musicians like it was some kind of Pokemon game.
Check out drummers like Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Jojo Mayer, Dennis Chambers, Benny Greb, Horacio Hernandes. People who have mastered more than one genre.

Well if I was the best drummer in the world I wouldn't say it.
Mike portnoy is overated IMO.
Here's a good drummer:

I myself prefer Mike Portnoy over any drummer (I'm not saying he's the best, but he's my favorite) but I do love Blake Richardson and BTB&M.

I didn't say he's the best, I said I enjoyed him. I know there's no best drummer. I have my favourites, you have yours. Get your head out of your ass.

I wouldn't get any Roland kit lower than the TD-12, I've got one of those, the TD-9 and HD-1 sound cheap to me.

I was referring to EL OSO polar's post. Also, saying "Neils gotta be up there as far as "best", you're almost saying the same thing. Neil Peart took lessons from Gruber to get his swing better, and he's become better. The thing is I'm pretty sick of other people saying that this or that drummer is the "best". Last year I had this 2 page discussion with another forum-member who refused to admit that there always will be better drummers. Atleast have the curtesy to say: [insert name] is my favourite drummer, instead of [insert name] is the best drummer ever, no ones better etc.

I didn't know I had to slap IMO onto everything. I understand there's no such thing as "best", there is however a "best to me" and whatever I implied, I only meant that they're the best for me.
