My snare is really starting to piss me off. The rattle keeps coming back when I hit my other toms.
My snare is really starting to piss me off. The rattle keeps coming back when I hit my other toms.
What do you expect? Resonance is a part of sound. A tom that resonates is going to make other objects around it vibrate (more so, if the frequencies of vibration are close for both objects). You can reduce it, by tuning the two drums to further apart tones, or just don't worry about it. Snare drums buzz, but it doesn't actually sound that bad as a whole. The worst is an amplified bass note vibrating the snare, that can get crazy depending on the bass's note. Just try not to have a bass amp pointing at the drums. I'm sure this isn't much of an issue now though.

Even with one guitar it can get mad if they play loud enough. Buzz is something you have to live with. My snare buzzes like mad when I hit my middle most tom, I deal with it and keep playing.
Goddamn people, use felt or moongel or a strip of plastic wrapping around the head.

Or tighten the strainers which holds the snares.
I'm getting new rack toms, getting 12 inch and 13 inch Pearl toms.

That's what's pissing me off.
They are probably tuned near the same note (in different octaves probably). Tune the snare up/down, or the tom up/down, away from each other. See if that helps. [editline]07:32AM[/editline] I used to hate snare buzzing, now I don't even notice/care, it's not a big factor in playing for me. The buzz isn't bad on my set.
I have the same cymbals
Are they any good? My drum teacher recommended them :P
I'm 6'1" and ~250lbs.
Yeah theres this thing called the metric system, it is used by the whole fucking world except for Burma, Liberia and the US and it is superior in all ways
Yeah theres this thing called the metric system, it is used by the whole fucking world except for Burma, Liberia and the US and it is superior in all ways
I heard there's this guy called mynames2long, he is British, minus his hidden Irish ancestry, and he has the need to be a twat for no reason whatsoever.
British? Try again pal
Yeah theres this thing called the metric system, it is used by the whole fucking world except for Burma, Liberia and the US and it is superior in all ways
Grow the fuck up. Boohoo a country is different from ours, get over it.
Getting away from that unpleasantness, I fucking love drumming to the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack! All the sex bob-omb songs are just really fun to play, and Black Sheep by Metric just sounds great when you get a groove going. Also the Gallows
New chops-fest. Got to practice my cross-fills.
Tomorrow I'm brining in my snare drum to my drum lesson, hes going to teach me to tune it properly. Right now my resonant heads are tuned relatively close together, and my batter head I went lazy and tightened it as much as I could, its really high pitched and sounds slightly good but my middle most tom and resonant head are at the same pitch. So they resonate like mad.
Just a picture to show my current set up. Got a gig this Friday in Camden, Tommy Flynn's bar. Can't wait!
"SO HERE I LIE, IN THE BELLY OF A SHARK, SO FUCKIN COLD SO FUCKIN DARK" Me and my boys have been playing this song in the Hotbox a lot recently, while none of us can really pull off Frank's vocal sound, it's an absolute joy to drum along to.
Is it me or is tuning my snare to a higher pitch making it louder? Because my parents finally decided to bitch at me about how loud it was.
Just a wee bit bent.
Just a wee bit bent.
Still looks playable.
No it doesn't. Melt it into a weapon.
Or send it to me, If it even sounds remotely good still I'll use it.
It'll sound like hitting a cat.
It'll sound like hitting a cat.
What kind of cat? I honestly want to hear what it sounds like before saying its useless.
The bell looks pretty flat, you could cut it out and it'd become a rather unique sounding splash
Or send it to me, If it even sounds remotely good still I'll use it.
It sounds like I'm hitting a spoon.
It sounds like I'm hitting a spoon.
Record it, I really do want to hear what it sounds like.
