It's a good tool for making your playing tight. A drummer who is all over the place would be kicked out of a band pretty quickly.

You need equal amounts of feel and metronome. If someone started jamming on a guitar, you'd want to be able to play along without having to ask, "How many beats per min is that?"
Danny Carey apparently doesn't think about the time signatures in Tool songs, but instead plays along to the 'feel' of the song. Turns out quite good.
But yes I do agree with your post too.
Okay, I honestly know I never went over 5 BMP off beat. And you are a true dumbass if you think not playing a metronome has nothing to do with it. It is really really hard, to keep a beat to a beep, or in Seven Nation Army's case a floor tom hit, if you don't practice to a metronome.
You must be a prodigy, you have 8 years of experience and at 3 years you played absolutely perfectly with no mistakes. And everyone sucks compared to you.
I'm sorry guy, I don't want to shit on your argument or anything, but I've never used a metronome in my life and I tend to be able to keep up with most songs as long as they aren't thrash metal.

Yes. That's your internal clock which is just as important as being able to play with a click(more important even).
Yeah, Danny is sick, but I'm pretty sure they use some sort of metronome when recording. Especially if the have some loops or sounds going.

I know this very well; people definitely need to practice with a metronome, or somehow get a very well timed internal pulse.
I can't stand playing with people who literally always come in early on rests/etc, because they have no pulse and are just (poorly) 'feeling' it as they play.

Lucky for me, I have like a genetically superior internal pulse, I can keep a good beat with nearly all music. Our bass player is always fucking up when it comes to time changes and middle- eights. I throw my sticks at him constantly

Sure, just like half of FP claims to have superior eyesight or superior hearing or superior anything.

I'm not sure why you're being so conceited and spiteful about this, my dad was a drummer and his dad was and my cousin is, drumming is kind of an inherited thing in my family. You don't need to go around making snidey little comments like a baby.

I cast doubts onto what you said, if I wanted to make a snidey little comment I would have said you suck. Don't twist my words. There's a difference between being a baby and being skeptic. I didn't mean to say you couldn't play, if you took it that way I'm sorry.
darkrei9n, stop being a fucking whiny troll.

You're trolling too you fucknut. You always have an issue with how people play their drums.

There is a fine line between being rude and helping someone. It's easy to cross. Give him the benefit of the doubt?
What's a good drum kit for under $250 for a beginner?
Second hand. Basic ones at my local store are $300 if that's anything to judge by.

Well if you want me to take your posts seriously, stop acting like a child. There was literally no reason for you to jump on that post, it was a throwaway comment.
Now can we continue the discussion about drums like adults and stop the arguing.
So I can do this
You're trolling too you fucknut. You always have an issue with how people play their drums.
I don't give a fuck about how people play their drums. I do care about whiny kids thinking they're hot shit, though.
loads of flaming here, wow.
So let's discuss drums instead, I had my first paid gig a week ago, it was a blast! that gig got us another one planned for november, because the guys at the bar liked us so much (we got the bar tender to come on stage and sing along... he took his shirt of for whatever reason, but even then it was great fun).
Drums sounded great, although they were probably to loud (as always, it's hard to mix these things) gotta love my DLX.
Several plays inbetween, setting up a website, man we're all over the place!
Where can I get a double pedal setup for my bass drum for a decent price?
How good are you with a single pedal first? A think my drum instructor taught me is that instead of using your right foot, you begin to use your left foot and tighten up the springs on the pedal, that way you train up your left foot and when you get a double pedal its easier on you.
But the double pedal I just got was 175 dollars for a new, but I got it for 100 when I bought a new kit with it. It is the P-902 from Pearl. However you can look at a guitar center or something, and a DW7000 is around 120ish used, which I believe is much better than the P902, only thing is that even if its guaranteed to work when you buy it used, if its 4 years old and been used by someone like the guy who plays drums for Tool, it could be on its last days of its life.
I'm ok with a single pedal I guess. I can't go extremely fast though.
Sadly left marching band today. I just couldn't deal with the complete bull. When you ask someone in your Percussion class to join Marching Band, that person is expecting that they'll be playing something involving a drum perhaps? Nope, I get put to a instrument I don't play, that I completely hate now, that I still can't play. They also expected me to learn the part in 8 hours. On a instrument I've never played before. Also our Section Leader is a jackass who is obsessed with HIS practice time, HIS battery. Sorry for spilling that out here, but had to let that go. Just annoys the hell out of me when people expect me to play something I don't play. Its like joining a band than having the guitarist say, HEY! WE NEED YOU TO PLAY BASS when you play drums...
In general, in percussion in education, they try to get you to learn a broad range of percussion instruments. Such as, timpani, and keyboard instruments rather than specifically snare drum.
This is not a bad thing, but not everyone likes it. If you want to play a snare drum, and only a snare drum, go tryout for professional performances somewhere.
