I've been reduced to plain and simple Zildjian K series copper hi hat, crash and ride. would kill for a splash and a china right about now
Uh. K series are supposedly excellent cymbals. I would kill to replace my B8s with those.
If drum line sat in pit all day I can think of a few people who deserve to just stand there. Center snare player is a asshole who doesn't deserve his part or deserve to be section leader for drum line. Whenever accessories does something wrong he starts yelling at us, minute drum line does something wrong he plays around with them.
Because accessories require the same focus and talent as an actual marching drum?
My mom found me some lessons and I go for my first one on thursday :neckbeard:
My mom found me some lessons and I go for my first one on thursday :neckbeard:
cool beans, I hope you get a good teacher, my old teacher was the best in our area, Geoff Battersby. He was pretty funny, too. Sadly I can't afford lessons frequently anymore.
I honestly have no idea who he is. Lemme see if i can get a name.
My mom found me some lessons and I go for my first one on thursday :neckbeard:
Don't come back all pissed that he made you learn how to old a stick properly and how to hit a snare. You will most probably not be learning how to use the full drum kit for a couple of months.

It was fuckin' embarrasing, but also put me in perspective.

I definitely do not know how to hit my snare right. I pound that thing like it's my job, which I guess it is.
I already have been playing for a few months, but more practice never hurts does it?
That's a good attitude to have, your teacher's going to like you. One of my mates is a drum teacher and he hates the kids who come in and just want to play the kit. Especially this comment: "Can you teach me how to double kick fast?"
Yeah. I'm taking lessons for a reason. Learn it there, use it at home. It'll be good to learn the proper methods and stop breaking so many damn sticks.

It's his money, so he can get whatever teaching he wants. If he wants to play fast double-bass, just teach him rudimentary single and double-stroke technique on each foot, and tell him to practice slow to a metronome and speed up for a year. Easy money earned I say.
eh, my drum teacher is the drummer for a new Dream Theater inspired prog metal band, have a listen http://palcoprincipal.sapo.pt/unified_theory
I learned that our second player had to leave marching band, and so I ended up getting their parts except for snare. I talked to my teacher about it and I may end up playing snare for marching band.
Yo yo yo. I just realized there is a crack in my 13" top high hat. I now need top, or even a set. How does this (http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend.com/product/Meinl-HCS-HiHat-Cymbals?sku=449566) look for the price? I can't spend more than 100 dollars.
yeah they look pretty good for the price. i'd say check out some videos on youtube to see if you really like them, but be aware that most of the video have bad audio quality, so you won't have that great an idea of how they sound.

Like Paiste's or Sabian's. Infact, there's some great cymbals from Paiste for under 100. http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend.com/product/Paiste-PST-3-HiHats?sku=447499

I've heard drilling holes at both ends of the crack is what you do when there's cracks. Never had to do it myself because I don't murder my cymbals. Simple taps for practice, go nuts on them for live situations.
That actually sounds like it would work. I guess I'll give it a shot when I get acess to a drill.
if you're looking to spend less than 100, then GO SECOND HAND, do it seriously, keep an eye out for paiste 2002/alpha hats they are incredibally cheap, alternatively look for paiste 505 cymbals, they are very close to 2002 cymbals only slightly less hand work went into them, you can get them for so cheap it's laughable. also drilling holes at the ends of the crack is the way to go, but drill the holes a bit in front of the cracks, just a fraction, because the crack might have gone further under the surface, making your hole useless. but it will never be fixed.

I actually drilled a hole in it. If it works for now I don't mind it sounding off.
Does anyone here have the MCS cymbal set? My teacher said that especially the ride and the hi-hat sound pretty nice.
So I had some drum lessons this summer, and my teacher told me I should get a drum kit ASAP. I'm getting one for my birthday, but because of space restrictions it's going to be an electronic kit. It should arrive soon, and when it does I'll post pics and stuff.

Get that kit even if you have to walk the streets as a rent boy! OR ARE YOU NOT A TRUE DRUMMER
horrible idea.
No it's not. I'd rather save up and get a quality hi-hat than have a cheap one that will break easier.
