No it's not. I'd rather save up and get a quality hi-hat than have a cheap one that will break easier.
Except a hi-hat for 75 bucks wont break and having a multi-hundred dollar hi hat pair and shitty cymbals is really mismatched and missounded,
Except a hi-hat for 75 bucks wont break and having a multi-hundred dollar hi hat pair and shitty cymbals is really mismatched and missounded,
I have a AAX Dark Crash and B8 ride, B8 crash, and B8 hats. It doesn't sound mismatched. There is no possible way to mismatch cymbals. Proof of this? Look at the guys who have Zildjian Ks than also have some of Sabian's stuff. Its like saying you can't use a ludwig snare on a pearl kit. Infact, for Marching Band our drum kit has Zildjian ZBTs and Paiste cymbals. My kit has a Leedy's marching snare from the 1930s and a PDP X7 kit. My drum teacher's kit has Zildjian Ks and a Sabian AA. Mixing and matching cymbals is a excellent way to get the sound you want.

I have A custom crashes and K custom hi-hats, but I love my ZBT ride to pieces because it sounds so nice and dark.
Priorities man! Get that kit even if you have to walk the streets as a rent boy!
are you not even going to consider rent boy?
Not old enough.
Not old enough.
there is a market for that. But I fear this conversation is going down a bad route so I'll leave it at good luck with RFID job.
Why thank you.

Well my lesson last week went great. Apparantly I do hold the sticks in a correct manner, and I do have technique when playing, which is awesome. One of the first things he said to me, however, was that I hit very hard. My next one is this coming thursday. Also, guitar center has this microphone kit for recoding drums. It has one for air (cymbals), one for bass, one for snare, and one for the toms, for 100 dollars. I was originally going to buy this microphone, http://www.amazon.com/Technica-AT2020-Address-Cardiod-Condensor/dp/B0006H92QK, (the AT2020) for about 65 dollars. Which is better? The single 2020 or the 4 mic kit? The only problem I can see with the 4 mic would be only having one mic for my toms, wich I have 3 of, unless only 1 mic picks up primarily the toms. [editline]29th October 2010[/editline] Also: what is the set of black fuzzy things that came off my crash ride\cymbal? Cymbal felt right? I think lack of it is causing damage to the inner part of my 18" crash\ride where it sits on the stand. Kinda like the black thing in the middle of this http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend.com/product/Zildjian-K-Crash-Ride?sku=443846 Does using a crash\ride without that black thing cause damage in terms of cracking? It seems like it is supposed to cushion the cymbal and keep it in place.

The felt protects the bell from bending. I highly doubt you need a mic for recording. But I hear for beginners a condenser mic is good enough.
This is like the 4th week playing with only a crash and a splash... My patience is about to end...

What is it called?
This is like the 4th week playing with only a crash and a splash... My patience is about to end...
I only have a crash and splash, been repping a minimal kit for 2 years.
This is like the 4th week playing with only a crash and a splash... My patience is about to end...
Ingrate. Appreciate what you have. I only have one crash/ride. Try dealing with that. Even with only that I love playing.
Define "keyholing" please. And can I buy a replacment for the plastic piece? What is it called?
You can buy the plastic sleeves, and key holing is when on a cymbal where the hole is rubbing against the stand and it starts to wear away.
My buddy brought over his zildjian cymbals the other day and let me jam using them. Good lord, makes my meinl cymbals sound like shit. He brought a crash and hi-hat and I loved the way the hi-hat sounded, despite it being heavy as fuck.
Ingrate. Appreciate what you have. I only have one crash/ride. Try dealing with that. It's just that it has been 2 months since I've ordered them and that is why my patience is about to end. It's not that fun to play without a hi-hat and a ride...

I'm losing my mind trying to tune my drums. No matter how long I try I don't seem to get the sound I want. Also, the coating on my snare head has wore out in like 3 weeks. Is that normal?
I'm losing my mind trying to tune my drums. No matter how long I try I don't seem to get the sound I want. Also, the coating on my snare head has wore out in like 3 weeks. Is that normal?
If you play a lot. For tuning drums this is what someone taught me. Starting with the resonant side head finger tighten each lug to the point where there is the slightest amount of resistance. Than do quarter turns until you can get the resonant side head to resonate as long as you can. Than repeat it for the other side. It sounds remarkably better, especially once you realize only you can hear it resonating. At a distance it sounds like what you hear from a recording.
Looking at getting a second hand drum kit. I'm just starting and need to get my own kit. Out of these 3 would you guys suggest?
