What heads are you using? Also, what size is the drum?
Its a 14 inch. The top head is a Black Max from Remo, either kevlar or mylar, bottom head is a ambassador clear. I think I might replace them with Evan's hybrid and the other weird one Evan makes, its like a normal resonant head but with metal wires across it.
The guy giving me drums lessons is fucking awesome. He always goes over the time and doesn't charge extra, plus he is a fucking cool guy. He asked me my favorite song, and then said we would incorporate learning it into the lesson plan, and also taught me the basics of how he tunes. such a life is life learning drum [editline]11th November 2010[/editline] Oh, and if santa (coughmymomcough) was going to bring me a set of double pedals for christmas, would he have made a good choice Here?

(Might be 3000, 7000, or 9000, not sure.)

I personally prefer the Evans Hybrids though. They feel much easier to play on, since they are a hybrid fiber. The downside is that the don't last nearly as long as traditional kevlar heads (although I don't think this will be that much of a problem for a personal drum). How do you have it tuned? If you want to go for a more dry sound, I have a few tips that'll help you out.
Tuned like it came in the mail, I don't think the snares are tight enough. That or the top head is so tight that when you hit the snares are going off when the snare strainer is off. I love a dry and articulate snare sound, so tips would be appreciated. However tomorrow I'm going to a drum guru and hes going to help me tune it. Also, I use the marching snare as my main snare on my kit.Just feels easier for me to do rim shots on my marching snare than a normal snare and I like the sound a lot better.
Whats to discuss? You hit them. Lol.
.
To whom are you talking to?
Just quit while you're ahead. Also, see PM
Whats to discuss? You hit them. Lol.
Go do that for percussion auditions. I recommend trying drum sticks on timpani. Bonus points if they're broken drum sticks and the timpani heads aren't the cheap ones. Also, I want to murder two of our bass drum players for Marching Band. They really need to loosen up on their drums. They don't just give the drum a nice loving tap, they smack the sucker like its a cheap hooker. On a normal head that's been played you get one or two dimples where the sticks have been hitting it. Theirs? The fact that those heads are still in tune is a miracle.
Whats to discuss? You hit them. Lol.
yeah dude lol likes you hit them and stuff nothing more to it rofl lol lmao
It appears my advice went overlooked :ohdear:
yeah probably because nobody listens to a guy witha metallica avatar lmao

There's no way for it to resonate and sound good if there is uneven tension, which dimples will create. Dimples are the result of playing with bad technique, not playing with balls. Anyway, back to the tuning. If you like the way these drums sound, I can tell you how how they tune: Top head cranked, bottom head pretty tight (but not excessively). Snares are taped to the head with packing tape, and there is a napkin pad folded into a rectangle taped across the bottom head. I'll take a picture of my personal drum to give you a clearer idea of what I mean. The fact that those heads are not dead is a miracle. Nice drum, second snares on the inside, I'm guessing its a Yamaha SFZ Multi-Timber?

It's not the drum I'd buy if I was in the market for a new one, but free is free. I'd like to have a Dynasty.
I think that snare might be a drumstick killer, my sticks have never been rim shotted so much in their entire life. That marching snare just cries, DO A RIM SHOT. My drum stick sticks are about to die because of it.
Bah, back to practicing double-bass. My left leg is shaking.. Better late than never.
The sticks I got less than a month ago have just lost like a quarter of the neck. Part of it was starting to crack away so I broke it off to try and stop it from cracking further. I'm gonna have to tape up my regular drum sticks now.
I also might apply to the Cavaliers Corp.
yeah the fuck right.
Yes! I finally have a full new set. Took 3 months for the cymbals to arrive... I went from this: To this:
yeah the fuck right.
Something tells me you don't even know who the Cavaliers are and it took you this long because you had to look them up. Than you had to look up what DCI is, than what a Corps is, than you had to look up what a Marching Band is. All for the sake of a stupid little 12 year old comment.
Here we go again..

After being mad about your cymbals not arriving, and playing without a high hat... the question comes up... what happened to the old one that made it unusable? Did you sell it?

After being mad about your cymbals not arriving, and playing without a high hat... the question comes up... what happened to the old one that made it unusable? Did you sell it?
Well the thing is I had no idea when my cymbals were to arrive. So I always assumed it would happen in a week or so. So I didn't really bother to get my old hi-hat and use that. If I knew that it would be 3 months I would have probably taken the old hi-hat in use. Also, it's nice to play when everything is new. :)
The guy teaching me is a massive metallica and dream theater fan, and keeps incorporating parts of old maiden songs into my practise :v:
Fucking yes. Probably the same situation as me right, as in guy teaching you have 1 or 2 kits in a basement or separate room? The guy teaching me says I am so much better than any of the other students that usually start with him.
I hate my drum instructor. I respect his opinions and everything, but I'm really annoyed how hes trying to teach my funk beats. I have nothing against funk but its not something I'm into, I know I should be able to play a lot of styles of music but I'm not funky enough for funk.
