I guess I never plan to be proficient then.
Don't ever say that. Once you get a double bass and begin practicing it becomes easy quick. The only issue is that you need to use it in a beat, if you just practice constant sixteenths you aren't training your left leg to be able to play by itself. You're training it to stay in time with your right foot.
I'm playing a show tommorrow for an all-girls private school, I'll be filming, so expect a video soon.

Is that legal?
Everyone time I pop my head in here, all I ever hear is talk about double bass.
I promise, there are a lot more things important than being proficient at double bass.

Well that depends what music genre you want to play. For death metal you HAVE to learn double bass and for jazz you don't even need to think about it...

You can use it to great effect though in jazz. Seen some really good jazz solo's incorporating quick double bass patterns in fills.
My instructor plays jazz and lighter rock and that kind of stuff and he incorporates it into fills in small amounts.

Probably not, but I'm wearing rave shades and a christmas hat, so I'll be disguised!

Benny Greb uses double-pedals in some of his jazz-recordings with some spectacular results.

Jazz uses it, but you typically don't notice it. For death metal you do not have to learn double bass. I can think of two drummers off the top of my head who probably can play death metal with one bass pedal.
I'm seriously considering starting up african tribal drumming, I just love the feel of it, and my college has got a lot of African percussive instruments
Whoopdee fucking doo. My resonant head has a hole in it from who the fuck knows what. I only got it in September.

Um. How the hell do you tear the resonant head? I mean unless the kit you got was sitting on the shelves for years I can't think of how it could of torn.
I also have a much better chance of making snare for indoor this year. We had our first indoor percussion meeting, center snare player and I were the only people who showed up for snare...
yeah my point exactly. I have no fucking idea.
The night went awesomly well. Had camera problems with filming, but a friend recorded it on her camera, so I'll try get hold of that.

I played drumset for the first time in about 4 years the other night. It was... interesting. It's a lot of fun, but also really frustrating because I suck at independence.

Guess I just come in at the wrong times then. Haha
I just am so interested in drums (I spend so much time around all types of drummers), I like I see whats going on in this thread every once in a while.

Double bass is cool when it's not stupid and repetitive like that.

Kollias is one of the few drummers I have heard of who could likely play death metal on a single pedal.

Whoever came up with that playing style is absolutely retarded and should be hung.

Tim Waterson, he doesn't play death metal but he holds the record for fastest single strokes on bass pedal. I think if Kollias put his mind to it he could beat that record.
I'm gonna be honest, that guy's snare sounds horrible in my opinion.
I'm at a bit of a decision here. I'm practicing double-bass and thinking about my next cover video. Should I cover Tool with Schism or Dream Theater with Panic attack, pull me under or maybe some other Dream Theater track.
cover dream theater any song will do
Schism and Panic Attack. It must be done.
i wouldn't say cover panic attack just because it's been done to death since it's on rb2. pull me under would be good but i'd say do something more unexpected by dt like yste jam or if you can do it i highly suggest learning to live
