thats probably why it's easier to you then, as opposed to me who learned and learns things be ear
I actually was taught music theory in 5th grade when I used to play the trombone. I quit that in 6th grade. I started playing the drums as a 15 year old sophomore, now I'm 19. I play by ear; I listen to a song I'm interested in playing and gather my thoughts then just play according to time.
The simple rudiments right? Not stuff like the triple ratamacue which I do not understand why its a rudiment. Triple ratamacue is llR llR llR L R L R I believe. I do not know why its a rudiment. Also, spent an hour just going back and forth on double bass, my left leg feels like jello.
The triple ratamacue is 3 ruffs followed by a four stroke ruff. I guess its to help with diddled grace notes before a phrase but the doesn't explain the 3 ruffs. The single ratamacue makes more sense

The guys marching alumni corps and scottish pipe bands today are still playing triple ratamacues and lesson 25's and all those things. Modern rudimental drumming doesn't have to many of those, however.
Is it just me or do clear heads feel way different from coated heads? Recently I changed from using clear tom heads to coated tom heads and I like the coated one so much better.
[img_thumb]http://gyazo.com/ae05cb8c5fbe217ca7cde57517754784.png[/img_thumb] did you guys learn sheet music first, or did you learn your songs by ear first?
I only learned to read sheet music a couple years ago, and I find it MUCH nicer to know exactly what is going on rather than trying to figure it out by ear.

I feel like my coated heads offer way more rebound than my clear ones. The clear ones feel to me like they give more.
yeah i noticed that too i can hit alot faster on my snare because it has the coated as opposed to on the toms which dont
You should not be relying on a rebound for speed, only for the stroke. Try practicing on a pillow. If you can play 32nd notes on a pillow at 120 you can easily play 16th notes at 240 on a normal drum. Also. Ordered new heads, they'll get here around next week, hopefully on monday, maybe Tuesday at best.
nonononno i dont rely it on its just something i noticed
What can I do to learn to play in the general styling of john Bonham? Im improving my singles on hands and feet(speed and technique) plus learning doubles on hands. But the off timing he perfectly plays in and the flawless groove. How do I practice up to that? Should I just jump into playing zeppelin and learn from mistakes?
Jump in. Unless you're a person who prefers to be methodical, jumping in is the best way.
ive decided and i think im going neck deep into the shit, and picking last stand of Achilles as my first zeppelin that i will try to perfect by ear, as opposed to just winging it.
Good luck!
Yep, yep. Gonna record 4 new demo-tunes this weekend. Gonna be fun.
So I'm looking into drums, and electric drums seem to be the way to go right now for me. What are some good eDrums for beginners for around a grand? I've looked at the Roland TD-4KX and the Alesis DM10.
Yamaha DTX-550K if you can find a good deal on it.
4 new demo-tunes released. The top 4. Hope y'all enjoy! http://www.myspace.com/module_ate_me
Someone recommend me a good beginner electronic drum kit.
Read the post 3 above yours. And the one underneath it as well.
practicing singles on a tom vs snare go (pretty please)
I just go around my kit and play 4 singles on each tom and snare, then 5, then 6, etc, until I get to 15. Then I go up 5bpm and repeat.

Another thing I do for cross overs is on my highest rack tom play triplets with the accent on my lowest floor tom. Which is really not a position that is comfortable.
I made my first drum cover today! I know many of you don't like Dimmu Borgir, but anyway here it is: I started practising it only a couple days ago so it's not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with it.
so i found out my excessive foot tapping is what caused my tendentious.... because it happened to my left leg now fuck its been 3 months and i still cant fully use my right leg. every time i try to get back into it, it doesn't feel quite right. i gotta go back to the doctor before i rip out my own intestines.
its pretty amazing how i can feel my left arm is whats holding my speed back right is stronger because i play the cymbal beat on it. i might try going leftie and relearning most of my stuff to increase speed and coordination
