Don't tell a principle percussionist or section leader that. Our Principle Percussionist at my school is adamant about how traditional grip is improper grip for concert snare.
well he needs to chillbro. people who get anal over drumming, or any instrument in general(if not called for, like DCI), should just stop.
Except its not improper technique. Its perfectly good technique and I find it easier to do cross overs with traditional grip because instead of crossing my arms entirely to hit a tom I can just move my trad hand over my arm and hit it.
What.
The hinge on my master pedal on my DW7000 set broke. I need to order a new hinge soon. Costs fucking 15 bucks :/
my 16 inch wuhan china gets in tomorrow

It's on sale at Guitar Center, plus it comes with a free amplifier worth $200 according to the add I got in the mail.

Quick test of the new set I've recently begun using. Y/n?
This wuhan is absolutely amazing. it really goes on par with some more expensive chinas. i would highly recommend it if you are looking for a good china on the cheap
Wow. One week of practice and I see some improvement. Not in straight singles but in triples on my snare and the ability to transfer from snare to tom at higher speed

Ya, the wuhans are sweet, and they're awesome for irritating guitarists. Anyways, if anyone's interested, I've posted a loose band-jam to Billy Cobhams Stratus on my youtube account. Drum-solo at the end too..

Does anyone favour a paticular brand of sticks? I do. Cant live without my Vic Firth American Classic 5B
I like Vic Firth 5Bs as well, but I have a brick of 12 nylon tipped sticks and I don't much care for nylon tips any more.
i <3 vater 5a for right hand and a 5b for left
I use Zildjians, but i lack experience with most brands
Vic Firth Jojo Mayer all the way!
Vic Firths 7an's for me, probably going to ditch the nylon soon though because there's some venues around my area that don't allow drummers to use nylon for some reason

I think they leave white marks on some cymbals and drumheads. Not really sure..

I like Vater as well. My first brick was Vater, and I really liked them.

My white Zildjians leave white sprinkles all over the fucking drumkit :v:

Yeah it's not a bad kit at all. Electric kits generally don't have good sound, but this has better kits than Rolands in the price range imo.
I'm going to put up a cover of me doing a song tomorrow. It's going to sound so much better than my solos and look better too; I groove when I play to a song. Too bad my shitty camera makes the audio shit

I fucking love chris' snare sound.
Also, this must've been asked a million times, but except for pads and actual snares, what's the best to practise singles on? i've stopped for a couple of weeks because of work, and my left arm has completely lost it's way so to speak
Nothing
I just got back from playing for all county jazz band. Their kit is horrible. I mean like holy crap why do they still use this thing horrible. The bass drum spurs are missing, the rack toms are muffled like hell. They took marching bass drum muffling and completely muffled the top heads, and than put duct tape on the bottom ones. Those toms are deader than King Tut.

Buy yourself som mic's then, or if you're low on cash, buy a zoom h4n recorder. Really improves drum covers when the sound is good.
Anyone have advice for finding a band? I'm really getting tired of playing by myself alone and would actually like to play with some people for a change.

If you go to school, then you should maybe try to contact some other students who play guitar or something. Chances are that they're in a band or want to start a band. If not, you can put up posters, look for other posters, look on forums etc.
school is a great place to meet other musicians, thats how i joined my band after they just started and needed an actual drummer, these the members became my best friends over time.
fast forward 2 years
and this Saturday we're doing a 3 hour set, with our own instruments, our own PA set and our own sound guy, pretty awesome.

Everyone at my school has parents that thing being in a band is bad and is a sin. So I can't go anywhere. :(
you're just going to have to convince them, we had to went trough a lot to get our bass/piano girl to join us (parents didn't agree and all), but after they heard us play, and saw that she and we were completely dedicated to it they let her.
just show your dedication you know.
Most of my bands have been through friends or acquaintances. You meet and play in a band with one person, then a friend of that person has another band etc etc. Now I'm in two bands, and me and the bassist from one of them, are hired to play for another band. They have two big gigs in the summer.
It's more pop/rock type, but it's still cool to play.
If you're open-minded, you can get a lot of bands.
