I finally get my double bass pedal back today! I left it at school over spring break.

:allears:
soon high toms...
soon you will be mine
its my dream to have a 4 rack tom and 2 bass kit.
[editline]26th April 2011[/editline]
oh yeah uh
i was told that the stuff on the shell, the color stuff, was removable (like the toms shown above, and on my kit, where the slight overlap of the material is apparent). where do you buy different colors of it ?>[/QUOTE]
it's called a wrap, and they can be a pain to get off.
i know pearl puts them on with just two strips of double sided tape.
but other companies (especially cheap companies) tend to glue them shut, it's a pain to get off witouth damaging the shell (and they look pretty cheap, so...)
if i remember correctly [url=http://www.jamminsam.com/]jamminsam[/url] was pretty known for their wraps and ability to get it in basically every color.
though you'd be better off ordering two toms from a reputable company. costs more, and it's worth it.

To be honest, jamminsam is a bit pricey. I don't know if this is true with companies other than Pearl. But if Pearl has a wrap of it, you can order it through a dealer and its like half the cost of jamminsam.
eh, no you can't. pearl doesn't even do that. (i've spend a lot of time on the pearl forums, they don't.)
jamminsam lists prices for entire kits, you might have to shoot them an email for those two.
either way quality costs money.

I ordered the wrap for my marching snare through a dealer from Pearl.
i can assure you that that wasn't a real Pearl wrap. but rather either a wrap with a pearl effect, or a wrap similar to pearl.
pearl don't even make their own wraps. they get other companies to.

i dunno
even though my accent kit is entry\beginning level, everything that came with it was pretty good quality, and its a pretty solid kit. nothing feel cheap (Except the bass pedal, but im sure that was given.)
if you have a beginning kit, you might as well begin upgrading it piece by piece, instead of keeping it crappy.
Buy a gretsch kit. Good sound and moderately cheap. Well built, and will last long. Catalina maple or club-rock is the way to go.

I ordered it from Pearl through a dealer. I have PMs from Al Percival on the pearl drummer forums for proof.
Here's something for you drumline guys to practice.

Really makes your wrists hurt but builds incredible chops.
[editline]27th April 2011[/editline]
Also helps timing.
[editline]27th April 2011[/editline]
[h2]By the way; it's 12 for the accents and 3 for the taps. MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS.[/h2]
You got a bigger version of that? That'd be pretty tiny reading it sitting on a stand. Then again my eyes are bad.
Check the download mate :) it's a PDF, you can enlarge it. Sorry about the condensed notes further in, I hate them as much as the next guy, but my tablature software was being dumb. Sorry
Does anyone know whether or not they'll give a damn what grip you use in a professional level concert band?

Well I mean...
Timpani - French
Mallet - Stevens (For 4-mallets)
Snare - Match (Traditional is looked down upon in concert band)

At the professional level though, at the professional level you know what you're doing. I understand at the high school level where they want you to use matched, but at the professional you have years upon years of experience.

What about wind ensemble? That's the band at my school that goes to state competitions and sometimes national ones. Do I still use matched for snare? If so, marching sticks or regular sticks (2Bs?)

Yes, use matched. Regular sticks. I use SD1 Generals or SD2 Bolero tips for concert snare.

Matched grip is still the most correct way to play concert snare. I doubt you will find a professional group that plays traditional on a concert snare, unless it's a field drum or on an old school strap.

i was thinking that. the way. i was talking to my instructor about that. he uses mid-level equipment and gets quite an excellent sound out of it. (and another friend i know who plays)
i really only need to upgrade my rack toms. my bass sounds good. i have a good snare. the floor tom will be absolutely dead because i want it like that.
my kit isn't bad sounding at all to be honest, just needs a bit of TLC that i need some assistance with in terms of tuning
and if i ever bought a full kit, it would have to be a tama granstar (if i could ever, ever get so lucky to find one, ha ha)

they shouldn't. everyone should use their most comfortable technique to achieve the same results.
if they do their fucking assholes
Submitting a video of the grid of doom
Slightly off topic, but drummers still get girls, so here it goes.
Bitches mayne...
I'm just starting to learn snare, so I'm probably wrong, but just in case I'm not? Isn't your left arm a little close to your body?
But yeah, my lack of chops just hurts when I think of trying to do that, haha. Good job none the less.
I'm not usually like that where my arm is bent all weird. Read the intro.
[editline]27th April 2011[/editline]
My left hand is perfect, though.

From the video, it kind of looked like you were gripping too far up by the butt of the stick on your left hand. You'll get better rebound if you grip a little more down towards the bead. Just a little though.

This. I was going to make a comment about inconsistent sound and the need for more relaxed rebound and velocity in the left hand, but this looks like the root of the problem. Good news: it's a quick fix. I find the best spot for the left fulcrum is at the bottom end of the flag on VF sticks.
