Just looks like stick heights, clean up the stick clicks though. Really make sure you are hitting those sticks. Especially if they're meant to be heard. Smack both sticks against each other, not just one stick against the other.

Yeah, that pad definitely boosts my heights up. It's too bouncy. We didn't have any stick clicks in the show, I was just doing it in time instead of dutting.
I wish DCI didn't conflict with band camps so much. I would totally do it, I am confident I would be able to make a corps with a good month or two honing my skills on tuba. Sadly, my college (from what I've heard) has a problem with many people who go to performing in DCI missing practices and coming back with very cocky attitudes.
I'm going to be taking snare lessons from my section leader, who I will be rooming with for a while, and then another good friend of mine should be coming up to college later this winter, who also plays snare and wants to teach me. I would like to do WGI one day, I don't care what I play in it really. I'd be happy with rack even, though I'd prefer to at least get a bass spot one day. I'm only 18, I got a few years to develop my skills. I have a passion in performing that will hopefully allow me to do this.
If I were to march for DCI, I would like to do Santa Clara Vanguard, Blue Coats, Troopers, Boston Crusaders, or Teal Sound (lol Turquoise Noise). This would be on tuba though. Or cymbals ;)

If you go for a bass spot, go for a outer bass spot. Middle bass spots are typically the most experience, usually because they have to be right after bass 1, they don't have time to get the beat, they need to be right there with them while the next basses after them have more time to listen for when they should play. Also learn to splits with someone. They are a lot harder than you think, one of the hardest things I can think of is playing a rhythm that the guy next to me isn't and not end up playing the same rhythm in time with him.
I am very aware that bass drum can be just as challenging if not more (in some cases) as snare. Also, I would prefer to march 5th, just because I like marching big instruments... hence why I march tuba. You're always gonna be seen with a tuba. :v:
I have decided on the name for my first set.
"Trashmaster"
I want an invader, but I want to be able to practice at night. :(
Order my invader anyways. So damn nice. :v:
So I'm looking to replace the cymbals that came with my set, but I don't really what brand, etc.
I was looking at stuff like this:

NO
NO
do not get ZBTs
practice your technique on the ones you have. you need to know how hard to hit everything. plus its not good to sink money into nice cymbals if A. your gonna break them on reason of bad technique, and B. on reason that you just started playing probably yesterday or so

Fair enough. But let's say down the line, maybe sometime in the summer, I need to get new cymbals. Would those be a good choice?
EDIT:
Judging by MonkeyFun's response, ZBT's aren't the greatest...
For sabian, which i say again i highly reccomend, the xs20s are an excellent price-quality ratio. i have the 14 inch hats and the 16 inch thin crash and they sound nothing short of unfucking believable
for zildjan K is what the pros use, but i refuse to use zildjan after looking at the prices of their K line, which is absolutely absurd, but eh.
wuhan for a good cheap china

ZBT's are pretty renowned for being shit.
Don't get Planet Z's, either.

Gotcha.
I wish I played set. Props to limb separation. :v:
Benny Greb is goddamn amazing.
True. He has a sig snare now, which I wanna buy.

I love that sound.
What are peoples opinions on Paiste''s line of cymbals?
A lick our section leader and our drum teacher made up. My section leader ticks it so much, listen in the end. You hear what I posted a long time ago.

Well darn. Oh well
I'm building another stave drum, this time from red oak.

I have some PST5's, I like them apart from the ride
I really love the sound of the Rude and Reflector series.

how does one achieve such a level of limb independence? i have a reasonable level of it, but holy shit.
Watch his dvd. He explains everything there.

His dvd is almost good enough to watch for pleasure, not just lessons
